Just not Interested

Tickets go on sale today for Heart/Journey and for the first time in 10 years, I am not interested. Been there, done that. Same show as last year - not exactly a promoters dream in a tough economy. I wonder how many others are not going who would usually be there. Unless Perry comes back (and we all know that is not going to happen), Pineda just doesn't excite me enough to invest the time and money. I cannot get over that cover band mentality.

Q: Did you buy Revelation dude?

I'd want to see Journey as I've a feeling they'll be playing a solid amount of new material but I'd show up at the beginning of their closing set unless I found out Heart would be playing the 85 and Bad Animals material.

But apparently interested enough in taking the time to start a new thread to tell us you are not interested.

Yeah I understand where your coming from, I have seen REO and Styx together at least 4 times, and it seems like every other year they tour together. In my opinion it seems like it would be in Journey's best interest to take a year off from touring, make people miss your music and concerts. If your out there all the time, people arent going to miss you and want to see you again.

There is one major difference though with this summer concert series: Journey is actually playing arenas as headliners and heart are just special guests. That means Journey will have a much larger set list with probably more revelation songs. I think its going to be a much better show as a Journey fan than many of the previous ones.

I don't blame you. I didn't see them last year, and I have no plans for this year. I saw a few YouTube videos of the band and that was good enough for me. I saw them once with Perry, three times with Augeri, and once with JSS. I'm sure Arnel is the closest thing to Steve Perry but to me it's still just a tribute to Steve Perry when you have someone copying his voice note for note.

I agree. And I think they're playing this year also to keep the momentum going on the new CD and their new singer. If Arnel had been with them a while I would say take a year off. But not with only a year under his belt with them.

It's so lovely that I get laid off and my well runs dry right when my local Journey tickets go on sale.

Damn it all to hell.

Exactly. Happy there still doing it, but I have no desire to see it live. If IT ever happens, I'll mortgage my house to see it, and you know what IT is. I'm afraid it's too late, but we can dream. What could have been, if both sides could have worked it out.

Oh, well.

If Heart's in the set, I see no reason not to want to go unless you don't like them.

The original lead singer and guitarist in a groundbreaking female fronted group is worth seeing. Plus Ann still sounds great.

Journey's doing what they can to stay relevant. They still put on a good show and in a few years, won't be around anymore. I'll catch at least one when they come to town.

Yeah, but it's been about 30+ years since that ground was broken.

I still say Perry's gonna be in Hawaii at that "falsely" announced gig.

So you both got to ask yourselves one question.

Do I feel loonish?

Well do ya?

I'm very excited. They are alone at Darien Lake so I'm hoping for a 2-2.5 set. They have Revelation tunes I haven't heard live and are gonna be writing a new album, which sometimes stirs creativity on stage too. Plus...9th row center.

agreed here... for whatever reason the thrill is gone as they say... JRNY in DM this summer... not doing it unless I happen to win some tix from raido stations this summer...
That said the show is close to being sold out from what I can tell at ticketbasterd.. seats left are in the way upper deck in the corner... curious but not enough to pay to see them as I was in 2002 with Augeri... Now that was awesome..

Man, I just read that Homeboy is sick again. Journey is a touring band so they really need to get Arnel down to the clinic to get his shots caught up. That dude is consistantly having ailments including headaches. If his kid has immunity issues like him and gets sick while he is on tour how is AP going to handle that?

Hope he get's well soon. The Sacramento gig is only 1 week away...and the band has not been together since they finished the Asian leg of the tour. Illness + lack of rehearsal = not good. Hopefully they all get together a couple days before the concert.

As for thread like this being posted, heh, without you guys who claim the thrill is gone or you're not interested, I'm sure the band is singing "I'll Be Alright Without You". They still do make a lot of people happy, including me. Realizing they are aging and not gonna be around forever, I'm gonna keep enjoying them as long as I can. 8)

In interviews I have seen with him, he seems like he is homesick.....and touring can get old fast. Neal tried to hide it but I think its hard for him...

I didn't mean that kind of sick. His immune system seems to have been compromised growing up in the third world. He seems to be under the weather quite a bit. As they'll be accompanying him, his family needs to be thoroughly ran through the medical gauntlet here in the states so none of them get sick on this tour

I know what you meant....I was just saying that with health issues and being homesick....it can make for a long tour. He just seemed sad for someone who is fronting a band like Journey. I don't know - it sounded like he wanted off the bus.
It sucks to grow up in that medical environment.....we are lucky here. I am sure he is feeling some stress in having gone from where he was to now.

Actually, many people don't know that there is quality medical care in the Philippines, for those who can afford it. The training curriculum for doctors is interchangeable with what we have in the states. I have a family member who is an Anesthesiologist, who was trained in the Philippines and lives in the US.

Yes, if you can afford it, AP culdn't back in the day though and I think he suffers now because of it. I had to take my friend's house in Baguio as collateral because his dad had a heart attack and the Hospital wanted 1.6 million pesos, cash up front to do the heart work. Since I can't own land in the RP, I had to use a proxy for the transaction but how many filipinos have 30 thousand U.S. dollars laying around? The third world is a harsh place.

[quote="jrny84"]Yeah I understand where your coming from, I have seen REO and Styx together at least 4 times, and it seems like every other year they tour together. In my opinion it seems like it would be in Journey's best interest to take a year off from touring, make people miss your music and concerts. If your out there all the time, people arent going to miss you and want to see you again.

Yeah, except those guys aren't getting any younger are they? So I guess they're making hay while the sun shines. Never can tell when one of the guys might need major surgery like a hip replacement for instance.

This is so true. Journey isn't going to be Menudo with Myles Schon coming in and carrying the torch. I'm sure he wants to be famous in his own right, and not be seen as riding his Dad's coat tails. Steve Lukather's son Trevor is the same way.
When Neal calls it a day, I would think that Journey will be officially defunct.
