I assume that this is the symphonic type album that he was mentioning?

I hope that he gets it out relatively soon, and that it doesn't take a year or more to be available. It seemed like an eternity from the time that he finished recording "The Calling" and "So U" and when they actually were available to the public.

If it doesn't cost too much to make a solo album, how come they cannot make a new Journey album? Just sayin'

Narada Michael Walden is an interesting producer to work with; I would not have thought that Neal was into his kind of music. I hadn't heard of Narada for some time but for Neal who seems to be experimenting in all sorts of sounds I suppose it would be fitting to try to find a different vibe and feeling. I will be anxious to hear what comes of this relationship. It could be screeches, heavy tones, melodic or who knows...but I am sure it will be very good.

I'll bet that Schon has 5 more albums out before Perry.

Perrys last album released last May was great! And the #1 worldwide smash duet with Melissa Etheridge was phenomenal.

I would be surprised if Schon was NOT working on a new record, whereas I would also be surprised if Perry actually WAS working on a new album. Neal is a work horse, who doesn't seem to enjoy much downtime.

That is because Perry is gun-shy. He is worried about how people will think about his voice or whatever. Come on, Perry. Forget about them. Just release something and let it go. Neal doesn't worry about that crap.

the media expects gold + records from Steve, nothing less will be a failure. And we already know the critics will hate it.
Three sure hits from him, Lost Angels Let Go and Home at last would have been significant. They should have been on GH +5
Along with his nod to his fellow Journeymen Anyway.

Cain and Schon confirmed they will write new Journey tunes during their upcoming residency in Vegas. The writing sessions will also include Smitty.

Cool! Maybe they can stick to the formula that gave us great music in the past. I'd like to hear some semblance of classic Journey. I like Revelation and Eclipse though, both have a few songs that are classic Journey....almost. It will be interesting to see what can be done with Smitty in the mix.

I think confirmed is a bit of a strong word there. They said that they are planning to write new material with the current line-up, because they will be looking at a lot of down time together while in Vegas. Yeah, it's the perfect opportunity for them to do so. But I'm not taking any word as 'confirmed' until they have actually done it.

I know Jon and Neal like having all the control, but they really would make a better album if they had a strong manager running things. Neal likes to go into long solos which works fine for his solo albums, but a strong manager would reign Neal in and would get Neal to shine in shorter moments. Jon likes to write a lot of lyrics that delve deeper into a subject, but that just bogs down the songs. A good manager would harness the best of our Jon's writing.

"Don't Stop Believin', Hold on to that feelin', Streetlight People" is perfect because it is NOT too wordy. If Jon wrote it now, it might be "Don't Stop Believin', Hold on to that feelin'. Show the world what you have inside, Make your life worth something before you die, Streetlight People." That is too wordy and people aren't going to like it.

Keep the songs simple both in Neal's part and Jon's part. They both have their solos albums for the other stuff they want to do.

I'm all for Neal playing long solos on at least some of the songs, or even on most. I'm also happy with Neal playing two or three solos per song if he wants to. A song like "Stone In Love" is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
Neal starts the song off with a big hard-Rocking riff. He plays a very short solo early. He plays a medium length traditional solo in the middle of the song. And then he plays a long solo to end the song.

Cain and Schon were asked separately about writing and both said they plan to write as a band in Vegas. If that's not a confirmation, what is it? It's possible they say "fuck it" and just play slots all day...but for right now, they confirmed their plans to write new Journey music.

I'm as excited as the next person to see new material come from the current line-up. The down time in Vegas is the perfect time to get together and write something new, and like you said now, Cain and Schon are both planning to do that. But planning and confirming are two different things. 'Confirming' (as you said in your earlier post) that they will write new music is a guarantee. 'Planning' isn't. It apparently doesn't take much to drive a creative wedge between those two guys these days, so that's why I'm saying that planning to write isn't a guarantee that they will.

So yeah, lets just go with they confirmed that they are planning to do something and hope for the best.

This is stupid. I did not say it is 100% certain that fans will have a new Journey album by Christmas. Semantics/grammar police like you ruin the internet for everyone. Cain and Schon were asked a question and they said yes. That is a confirmation. I did not say it was a money-back, legally binding guarantee. Let's just drop it.

Neal and Jon really need to just sit down in Vegas and write one slam-bam great song. At this point, that is what Journey needs most of all. Just use all the time to mold the perfect song. They just need to write it and then rewrite it and then practice it and repractice it. Then maybe rewrite it again. And then they can have an awesome song. After that, they can build an album around this song.

One thing to keep in mind....both Revelation and Eclipse were planned to be just EPs. But once the creative juices started flowing, they did a full album.

I wish that Neal had given an actual answer to the question about what he thinks that he'll be doing in ten years.

Neal and Jon keep cranking out solo albums, and yet it "costs too much" to create a new Journey album? I think it's more like, "we don't agree on direction anymore for new Journey music, and it costs a fortune to get a producer who can bring us together and get it out of us."

It's no longer that expensive to record a new CD. Journey could still make a small profit off of a new album. They just don't make a large enough amount of money anymore to inspire Cain to work on a new album.

The expense of recording a new album is nothing more that an excuse.

Did bands ever make a ton of money from an album? I thought that a majority of their money came from songwriting royalties and touring with the album being the method to generate the first two.
