Wow; a new show I hadn't heard about. I searched the LA Times archives for Jul-Oct 1994, but came up blank.

If you find your long lost stub at some point, or if anything else jogs your memory (other events going on at that time, etc.), please let me know. I'd like to run this one to ground, for sure!

Tater,

Great info! And you are correct on the Syracuse and Rochester shows (see attached). The Sunrise Musical Theatre is in Sunrise, FL, which is about 20 minutes from Fort Lauderdale, of which it is a suburb.

I added the Spokane show, which was reviewed in the Jan 13, 1995, Spokesman-Review newspaper. Likewise, the STL show, at the American Theatre, was reviewed in the Oct 27, 1994, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, so that one's a lock.

Just got fan confirmation on the first NYC Beacon Theatre show.

Now, to research more of the info you provided. Superb!

Thanks!

I didn't even remember there being an opening act. Though I don't doubt that there was. The name Sass Jordan does sound slightly familiar.

Excellent! I'll mark the Cleveland show as confirmed. It was advertised in the Oct 28 Akron Beacon Journal, and is surrounded by confirmed shows, so I feel pretty good about that one.

I'm a huge fan of Steve Perry/Journey. I was looking very forward to the concert, and I'm sure that I would remember if there had been any cancellations/rescheduling of the show. It definitely did take place on 10/29/94. Perry sounded really good that night. And the more that I think about it, that name Sass Jordan definitely does sound right as having been the opener.

Wasn't a stub type of event. Invites and Radio contest (through KLOS). No cameras allowed and pre-cell phone, so I don't have any pictures. Lora may know the exact date, but I doubt I have anything that marked the date.

I can't remember what I had for lunch last week so I don't think the date of the invite-only warmup show is going to return to my memory. Cyndy & I weren't there because we were out staffing an Aerosmith Travel Package (Oct 8-15, 1994).

I can confirm that these two dates were cancelled:
11.12.94 Rochester, NY Rochester Auditorium Center
11.13.94 Syracuse, NY Landmark Theatre

The reason I know that is because Cyndy & I flew out to Rochester to surprise Steve and the band and we were the ones who got the surprise when we found out the show's weren't happening. Steve was battling bronchial pneumonia during that tour and it was a bitch. We were able to hang out with the guys for awhile before they left on the bus for the Toronto gig on Nov 15 so it wasn't a total loss.

This is the show where I've mentioned the sound check. If there is a heaven, and I make it in, then I know that when I die I'll be going back to that sound check. Anything else would be sub-par.

Hi, all,

Just a quick note to say thanks for the overwhelming response I've gotten to my inquiry about the Strange Medicine tour. From your input, I've been able to nail down just about every played, postponed and cancelled date on the tour.

The only shows I have yet to find anything about, either online or via first-hand fan reviews, are below, which, all things considered, isn't too bad, percentage wise. I'll toss these out there and, if nobody has any info on these, I'll call it done.

Thanks, again, to all of you for your help!

Bert

Saw Steve at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo Jan. 1995. He sang for about two hours. Sounded great. Started the show with a couple Journey songs then jumped into his solo stuff. Finished with all Journey songs. Last song he sang was Faithfully. Did the coat drop thing Talked to the audience quite a bit. Someone from Hope college nearby brought him a Hope sweatshirt. He put it on and sang Somewhere theres Hope. Really great show.

[quote="HubieG"]Hi, all,

I've done some work with Ron South on his excellent Journey tour archive (http://ronsouth.blogspot.com/p/tours.html) and am just now digging into the Steve Perry 1994/1995 solo tour.

As I research the trek, I am learning that more than a few dates were either postponed, often times more than once, or cancelled. At least a few were postponed and then cancelled, particularly those at the end of the tour.

At any rate, I am slowly but surely sifting through the news archives online and have found a good bit of info, but wanted to see if anyone here might add their 2c if they happened to catch one or more of the Strange Medicine shows, particularly along the lines of cancellations, postponements and/or opening act info.

Hi, Yogi,

Thanks for your reply. I've actually added a San Antonio show, on Dec 02, 1994, in my own copy of the FTLOSM tour archive and will be posting an updated version here on the boards in the next few days.

In the meantime, though, the source I have shows the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium as the venue and Sass Jordan as the opening act, the latter of which looks pretty solid based on surrounding dates.

So, you are correct: he DID play SA on the FTLOSM tour. Now, to determine the venue. I'll do a bit of digging there.

Stay tuned...

It looks like the San Antonio Express-News archives are fee-based, only. So, in the absence of other, more solid, info, I shall list the SA venue as the Majestic.

If, by chance, you happen to run across information along those lines, let me know, as I like to list citations for as many dates as I can in my own copy of the archive.

Thanks!

Thanks Bert for capturing these dates. I was so lucky to make it to 2 of these concerts.
What would also be cool is to capture some of the rare songs on the tour.
He seemed to stick to the same setlist throughout, but I had seen he did In a Picture, Send Her my Love, and Suzanne.
None of which he played the first two gigs. I know in MPLS he gave a long intro to Oh Sherrie about calling her very recently.
IIRC he didnt do this in Milwaukee.

Sitting in the front row at Northrup is a time I will never forget, and when he did Faithfully (last encore) I somehow had a feeling Id never see him sing live again (in person). Sad that I was right.

Yes It was a woman . She played a guitar really well. She sang some too but I dont really remember much else about her. Steve talked about her a bit when he came out. I still have my ticket stub somewhere. Ill have to see if her name is on it too.

Finished with all Journey songs. Last song he sang was Faithfully. Did the coat drop thing Talked to the audience quite a bit. Someone from Hope college nearby brought him a Hope sweatshirt. He put it on and sang Somewhere theres Hope. Really great show.

That's an awesome story. Thanks for the confirmation!

So, any recollection of who, if anybody, opened the show?...

Yes It was a woman . She played a guitar really well. She sang some too but I dont really remember much else about her. Steve talked about her a bit when he came out. I still have my ticket stub somewhere. Ill have to see if her name is on it too.

Her name was Sass Jordan.

As a fellow Canadian, I can say she was pretty well known here, obviously not so much any where else!
