Master drummer Steve Smith has rejoined Journey for their current tours, including a performance at the Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene on Saturday, March 18th .

Steve Smith's other diverse musical bands and projects have included the fusion group Vital Information, ensembles merging the music of India with jazz, and many others. He’s also released a multi-media project called The Fabric of Rhythm, which includes an album, a book and visual art. He’s in the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame, and Journey will be inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Steve Smith speaks with KLCC's Eric Alan, in an interview that includes music samples from Journey, Vital Information, RagaBop Trio, and more.

Sounds like they been talking and Smitty might stay another year and
tour in 2018 with them.

I think that decision is going to come down to whatever other projects and who they are with are offered to him, since he said that his schedule is usually booked a year in advance.

He was spot on with his comparison of Arnel to Steve, saying that Steve was more of a rhythmic singer.

Props to Arnel, but Steve's vocals definitely had more of a natural, organic feel to the songs...obviously because the songs were written for and tailored to his vocal style and capabilities. He designed the blueprint. Augeri, Soto and Pineda followed the blueprint.
