A Classic Cadillac Convertible with Journey and Van Halen Rock Stardust—On Sale for a Good Cause

The 1965 Caddy ragtop now available on eBay Motors was bought by Scotty Ross, then tour manager for Van Halen, in 1999, and used by him to get the popular band to gigs around the Los Angeles area. When Ross went back to his old job as road manager for Journey (“Don’t Stop Believin’”) in 2013, the Cadillac went with him. And soon it was taking those Rock & Roll Hall of Famers around San Francisco. The striking gold six-seater DeVille convertible is in excellent condition, and it has a unique history.

In 2017, Ross finally sold his beloved Cadillac to an interesting buyer—Dr. Andreas Kamlot. He is a San Francisco heart surgeon who volunteers his medical expertise to the CRUDEM Foundation. The Catholic charity supports the Hôpital Sacré-Coeur in the northeastern Haiti community of Milot. Dr. Kamlot recently donated the Cadillac to CRUDEM, and 100 percent of the proceeds of the sale on eBay Motors will go to support community outreach projects at the hospital.

The auction winner gets the rust-free, 56,800-mile car—which has its original paint and 429-cubic-inch V-8, brand-new tires, a near-perfect interior, excellent chrome and new top. But that’s not all. The car is signed by the current members of Journey (on the dash, the seats, the console, all over), and it includes a priceless duffel bag filled with memorabilia from the band—including several t-shirts, band sunglasses and baseball cap, a DVD of a Manila concert, a concert CD, and a bunch of used all-access passes.

The Cadillac is ready to be a daily driver, a museum exhibit, or maybe the most prized possession of a mega-Journey fan. It reportedly runs well and has only a few road scars to show for its 52 years. Remember, rock stars sometimes destroy hotel rooms, not classic cars. In fact, many rockers—including Sammy (“I Can’t Drive 55”) Hagar, onetime lead singer for Van Halen, are major collectors. Sammy is a Ferrari man.

If the new owner does decide to put the car on the road, it will be well served by eBay for parts for 1965 Cadillacs and DeVille parts and accessories in particular.

The money raised by the Cadillac will be put to good use. The 200-bed facility is the largest private hospital and public health provider for the 225,000 people in the Milot region of Haiti. It has 347 Haitian staff members, supported by US medical professionals. It offers outpatient clinics, maternity services, pediatrics, dentistry, a prosthetic clinic, and a range of programs to address HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and cholera.
