I'm not holding my breath on this.
But...what I could see happening would be a one-off acoustic set. Just Steve, Neal and Jon. A much more polished and better rehearsed version of what they did at the Bill Graham tribute. It wouldn't be as much of a vocal strain, and the three of them would shine together without comparison to what Perry is no longer capable of bringing.

I'm skeptical. If Neal really asked Perry about this and got some (or any) form of communication back, we would have already heard about it.

1. It'll never happen
2. If Perry was even considering it just a little bit, he would not appreciate them even talking about it openly

This is the Cain interview where the Perry news originated from. Cain also says no new music. Personally, I wouldn't want Freedom to be my last creative statement with the band, but I don't think he really gives a shit.

Nah, it's all just a little too convenient when they are trying to hype the upcoming tour. It's a shame I've become so downright cynical regarding the band. But there's enough history there to justify it.

Won't happen
I think Jon knows arnels voice is toast.
Would rather see him solo doing a Vegas gig

Perry says no.
Too funny. Good for Perry.

Figured it wouldn't take him long to set the record straight. It's sad that you can't believe a word this band says anymore.
Zero interest in seeing that final tour.

Pretty interesting that Neal, who tweets and posts almost as often as he uses the bathroom, said nothing about this conversation. But Cain is the one who raised it as a possibility... and that's what Perry chose to squash. Clearly, the rift in this band - the "fractured stone" as it were - was always between Cain and Perry.

Water will stop being wet before Perry does anything with anybody in the band. This question will somehow never go away though.

Cain was
asked about it in an interview and answered it paraphrasing what he was allegedly told by Neal. SP squashed it because the story quickly went viral. It's pretty simple. You really think SP would have ignored it if it came from someone else? I don't.

Steve Perry is 77 years old and has been out of the game since his late 40s. I cannot believe this is still an idea that people even entertain. After 30 years of inactivity, he has aged out of this industry entirely - I mean it’s not like he’s Steven Tyler 77 or Robert Plant 77, he’s “my rich old uncle” 77, and I imagine he enjoys rich old uncle things - which don’t likely involve standing in front of 10K people on stage with people you hate.
He’s just not a public person and he has absolutely zero incentive to complicate his life in any way.
And this is not even taking into consideration whether or not he could sing, I think that’s actually beside the point.

ALL of this! What motivation could he ever have to answer to bandmates he really can't stand any longer, especially on a professional level? The dude calls the shots on everything he does and has collected so much money over the years he probably considers his collection complete.

I know Neal and Jon would bend over backwards and do anything Perry said performance-wise, but again......zero motivation when he could get good modern players in his studio to help him record his exact vision on a solo album if the whim struck. A lot of people seem to forget, they already did the reunion thing in '96 and it came to a bad ending. It was fun recording with all the old guys I'm sure and checking in with everyone, but that was a long time ago now, and it was already a decade since Perry was in the band BEFORE that. The timing and situation for that worked great, but here we are 30 years later from that and those same motivations are long gone.
I get wishful thinking and everyone posts their wild dreams about their bands reuniting with the glory lineup, but this one is beyond a dead issue, and has been called such by Perry at numerous points. His streak of holiday releases was broken I think this past Christmas? Or maybe even the year before? As you said, the guy is a "rich uncle" 77 year old. Leave the guy alone, anything he wants to share is gravy at this point for those that still dig his older sound.

It's delusional to think that Perry would sing an entire set with Journey at this point. But he could sing 2 or 3 songs one time at one show just before they stop touring. Do I think that he will? No, I don't! But he could. Even if it doesn't sound particularly good.
The one reason why he should want to sing 2 or 3 songs with them one last time is for the fans. But again, I don't think that the fans matter to him enough to actually go on stage with Schon and Cain. Hypothetically, if it was Rolie, Valory and Smith with Chalfant and Ramos performing as Journey for the final time, would he perform a few songs with them one final time? I know that he and Rolie didn't care for each other either.

If Steve didn’t perform with them at the R&R HOF or the Hollywood Walk of Fame he’s certainly not going to be performing with them in Laredo Texas.

It is pretty ridiculous that it keeps coming up. He won't even do one show for his own solo album or even one sing if it live .
Perry won't FAQ:
His last full concert was March 22, 1995. He divorced Journey May 7, 1998. His last brief appearances onstage w the EELS were in 2014. He won't even text ,meet, or get on the phone with any member of Journey . How many clues do people need to see that he's retired from live music and the band? I wrote that a couple of days ago. It can go even further:
Last brief live appearance w Jon and Neal 1991. Last Journey concert, 2/1/1987.
