Entercom’s L.A. classic rocker KSWD (100.3 the Sound), which was sold to Christian radio chain EMF (Educational Media Foundation) in September as part of a divestment required by its yet-to-be-finalized merger with CBS Radio, is not going down quietly, according to PD Dave Beasing.

KSWD, which will be replaced by the contemporary Christian station K-LOVE 100.3, has begun a combination celebration and goodbye before disappearing from the airwaves in the not-too-distant future. The change is expected to take place by the end of this month or early November.

This morning, the station’s original morning DJ, Larry Morgan, dropped by and went on the air with former station mates Andy Charley and Gina Grad to talk about the station’s history.

The Sound 100.3 is planning to pay tribute to a number of station features for the last time over the next few weeks, including “Roll the Dice” (which determines the number of songs played by each artist) on Monday (Oct. 16), “Album Sides Wednesday” (Oct. 18), “Triple Play Thursday” (Oct. 19) and a “My Turn” marathon, with repeats of the station’s most popular guest DJs (B.B. King, Joe Walsh, Jeff Lynne and Steve Perry) on Sunday (Oct. 22).

Starting Monday, Oct. 23, The Sound 100.3 will begin a marathon “The Songs We’ll Miss, from A to Z,” in which they’ll play their favorites, in alphabetical order until the as-yet undisclosed official signoff date.

The station is setting up a message line at (323) 692-5410 and email (HeySound@The SoundLA.com) for requests.

“There’s so much we want to say to you, our loyal Sound family,” concluded Beasing. “But as always, we’ll let the music do the talking.”

At least they have notice. So many times you turn on a radio station in the morning only to find it's no longer the same station, or the same people.

They played good music.

It's interesting that they end with Steve and probably begin the new with Jon. :)

As a happy send off, we should swamp the station with requests of SP Solo stuff and Finish
it off w/ all the Journey stuff.  :P

That's what many on Facebook are going to do.
