No, because you've already handled the difficult part by being up 3 goals on the road and rendering the opposing team's extra attacker as useless.

Can I ask this as a naive sports fan.... WHEN is there EVER an entire team playing?? I watched the Pens lose players left and right all season! Injured, surgeries, kicked out..... it was like a revolving door this season!! Aren't all teams like this??? Or do the Pens just have shitty luck??

We are not talking about some 4th line rookie, or some role player....the Bruins are without their TOP TWO offensive weapons, and in the case of Bergeron, their faceoff specialist.

You saw what happened when Malkin and Cindy were out for long stretches.....

Crosby... Malkin... Staal.... Cooke... just to name a few.. were THEY the Pens 4th line rookies? :? And Malkin and Crosby were out half the season and all the playoffs, and I felt they still kicked ass considering.

I wasn't comparing those 3 to a 4th line.....I'm just saying that it matters who your injured players are. Please don't lump that no talented head-hunter Matt Cooke in with those other 3. After what he did to Savard(cheap shot to the head, ending his career) he doesn't even deserve to be in the league anymore.

Matt Cooke may be a dirty player, and he may even be permanently suspended, time will tell, but he was STILL one of their starters. One of their big defense men. And it changed the DYNAMIC of the team missing him as much as anyone else. That is why I mention him! :P

I think the difference between you and I, is the outlook. I watch for a fun game of hockey. I want to see my team win. But I also just want to cheer and have fun, no matter who ends up winning. I LOVE the rush of excitement when my team DOES win, but I don't get all upset when they don't. I guess I'm more of an optimist about most things in life though.

What you saw, was the Pens sucking and losing without their key players... what I saw was a great team, pulling together without their captain and co-captain, working their asses off to make their fans proud. They made it to a game 7 against a tough team, and I was happy with them. I wish they'd gone at least one more series, but thought considering the revolving door of players they've had this year, they did pretty awesome! :)

Nice post..... And what *I* see is a Bruin team with THE best goalie in the league. On an otherwise mediocre team. This team would not have even made to the post season with Tim Thomas. IMHO, he deserves both the Hart, and the Vezina. Anyhow, this team overacheived this year. They lost their #1 offensive threat because he begged for a trade. Phil Kessel didn't want to play both ways(Waaaaaahhhhh). He only wanted to play offense. Then they lost Savard(#1 assist man on team) to that consussion from Cooke. They never replaced Kessel's offensive output. Nathan Horton is hardly in Kessel's league, and they never replaced Savard's assist prowess, and his PP strength. They got Kaberle for the PP, and he's been abysmal. Now they lost Bergeron, the key PK player, top offensive player, and top faceoff player....and you expect the team to suddenly come together and be this NHL juggernaut?

None of these players are Crosby/Malkin caliber...they just aren't.

It would be nice if they actually came together and won....but they can hardly be faulted if they don't. And you can hardly call it being 'PWNED' if they lose.

I think it is pretty damn telling that they beat a faster, more finesse team in the Habnots, going 2 for 41 on the PP. Bruins ARE the best 5 on 5 team in the league. Teams need the PP to score on this team.

If the bruins had even a mediocre PP, they'd have coasted to the Cup this year.....

Your goalie may be the best in the NHL for this season.... but Tampa's goalie is proving to be every bit as good through these playoffs. They also have a defense that works hard to help him. And even an offense who works hard to help him. They are a hard working good team. If they win, THAT will be why. :)

Roloson as good as Thomas?

Not even close. Thomas saves games for his team all by himself. Tampa's defense ALLOWS Roloson to make those chippy saves. i don't think Dwayne faced a screen shot all game last night....pretty damn easy to make a save when you can see the puck. Tampa's 'D' is overall better than Boston's....But Chara's the best individual defensive player on the ice.....Thomas has kept Boston in the playoffs.

Behshad wrote:Did anyone catch how Tampa Bay OWNED Boston last night ?!

Behshad...listen. Just because you watch hockey doesn't mean you know the game. Tampa didn't 'own' Boston last night.

First of all, Boston is without their TWO best offensive stars: Mark Savard, and Patrice Bergeron - both out with concussions. In Savard's case, his career is probably over due to that wicked illegal hit by Matt Cooke that nobody saw. And Bergeron got questionably hit last series against Philly....so let's knock off the BS. If Yzerman, and Shanahan were out with injuries....I'm sure they'd be hard pressed to win anything.

Secondly, Tampa's goals were weak, lucky shots. Let's go through them, shall we? First goal. Seidenberg loses his stick in front of net. Hmmm...how does a player lose his stick? Either it was SLASHED out of his hands, or it was yanked out. Either way a missed penalty. So his only recourse is to kick the puck away. Just happened a Tampa player was there to knock the kicked puck in. Verdict: missed penalty, lucky shot. Second goal. a weak-ass backhanded prayer from the right wing by Clark...very lucky shot...but Thomas should have had it. Third goal. More of a Kaberle fuck up than a good play by Tampa....a giveaway in front of the net that Purcell keept whacking Thomase's left pad til it finally went in. Wow, look at the ownage.

Forth goal was a screen shot. A power play goal because of another bogus call. Boychuck legally hits a Tampa player(Brewer maybe?), and Lecavalier takes offense and tries to put Boychuck in a headlock. Boychuck tries to punch him. And can you imagine, only Boychuck visits the box.

Fifth goal. And empty netter. WOW....exciting!

Even Roloson said, 'We got a couple of lucky ones'

News flash, if you don't have 'luck' in sports then you might as well pack it in. Playing a game so fast and reactionary as hockey/football, you bet your damn ass you're hoping to get lucky. In fact, over 85% of the game of hockey is luck. How many times do you see a shooter shoot at the blue-line with 6 people in front of the net, hoping for a deflection? Most of these goals are the majority of scores, deflections.

Man, you hate accepting a loss. Any Boston team NEVER lose's and when they do lose, it's because of all these whiny excuses on why this and why that and how they got hosed, lucky, or how the refs were involved (is this repeated history and conversation? :x )When Boston wins, however, they are the best at what they do and none of those variables apply to them as opposed to the excuses of the other team and how they beat Boston. When Boston wins, they win fair and square, every time. They never get the calls, they never score on lucky shots and they never need a refs opinion. They are straight up beastly. This is what makes S2M, S2M.

That's not true at all, Trav....you have NEVER heard me say the Red Sox got screwed. Ever. Baseball isn't like that. If you lose, you deserve to lose. But the other 3 sports are VERY penalty-driven sports. Especially Football and Basketball, and hockey to a lesser extent. If your name is Kobe, Lebrick, or Wade....you are going to the charity stripe at least 10 times a game. Even if nobody touched you. Just a fact. And if you are a star, you sure do rack up them frequent flyer miles as well....

And in football, I'll say it again....and I challenge you to disagree. If holding can be called on EVERY play, it is suspicious when it IS called. 3 offensive lineman holding in that SB between Giants and Pats....why wasn't it called? That's your game right there.

And in hockey, there used to be a thing where nothing was called in the 3rd period. Why? A hook is still a hook in the 3rd, like it was in the 1st....this, to me, is bogus....now they tend to call more things in the 3rd...but it must be VERY obvious.

I'm not a bad sports fan....I just care more about how a team loses, and how the other team wins more than the average, uninformed, sports fan....

Then why all one-sided all the time !!?
If Boston would've won 5-2 last night the EXACT same way Tampa did last night , would you have said the same thing about the goals and the win ?! Fuck no.
Your sorry ass thinks that spending 15 hrs a day in front of TV and watching sports makes you a sport analyst or even a fan. You're ALWAYS bitching&moaning when the team you wanted to win loses and brag when they win. I'd say typical Boston fans , but even they're not this pathetic.

Absolutely, B....As one who actually plays sports; Hockey, in particular. And Softball to a lesser extent. I have to accept the win, for win's sake. But beating a team who wasn't at full strength is unsatisfying....Honestly, if the roles were reversed I'd consider the team lucky that it won 5-2, and be worried that I must play better next game. Cause maybe next game I don't get 'lucky' with flukey goals, and benefit of calls in my favor. Most athletes today don't give a second thought to how they win . Be it a phantom tag at second, a trapped ball out in center, or a dive by one of those lame montreal players....whatever allows you to win. And that includes playing a team with injuries. I know for a fact that Tampa didn't care that Malkin and Cindy were out, or that Savard and Bergeron have concussions...whatever gets them the cup, right? But deep down....I mean deep in the place where reality and logic dwell - these players must know that they played a team that wasn't at full strength.

 Thomas? Seriously, Thomas? While he may have had his day in the sun prior to this season, puhlease don't put his performance this season up for the Hart. Any tender who seemingly FORGETS there's a backside of play to watch, who gets caught off guard on a play coming right down the middle and who so underachieves as he has this year... That is not a Hart player. No way, no how. Now, the likes of the Phil's young Bobrovsky and SJ's Niemi, those two impressed the hell out of me this season. Consistent during time on ice, spectacular saves as well as run of the mill puck in hand easies.

As for the rest.. Meh, Kessel's a long forgotten dot in history, Savard is a major hit, Berg... he'll be back in due time. You seem to be neglecting those who are bringing game to the ice... Seguin, though very young, is hot out there right now. Luc and Krejci were no shows last night, but Chara - even swarmed - was working down and in. Earlier on in the playoffs, I was ready to throw in the towel with these guys. They had absolutely no business working toward the cup. Then they surprised me in the Philly series - hitting hard, striking fast and looking like they should. Time will tell in this series whether they used it all up against Philly or if they can whip it out again and move on. But yeah, I most certainly can blame them if they continue looking like they did last night. They have the talent still on the ice, they just need to decide to use it. And I'd be more than happy to see Thomas have some bench time... maybe it'd put the fire back in him.

BS. You'd never admit that YOUR team LOST cause they sucked. Just like you'd never admit that your team won by luck.

And what do you suggest Tampa should do ?! Try not to score as many goals just because the other team has injures players ?! With that logic , teams also should refrain from scoring when on power play , since the other team isn't " full strength " ;).

I didn't call you a Boston fan cause that'd be an insult to Boston fans that they don't deserve.

And you play hockey ?! ;) peewee league ?! ;) Do you constantly skate u to the ref and tell him about his bad calls and the calls he missed ?!

Yeah I'm serious about Thomas....led the league in Goals against, and Save Pecentage....nice try though...that's underacheiving?

And you say Seguin is hot right now?! Dude played 9:38 last night....FIRST action he's seen all playoffs.

and lastly....even though i may be hated here, for the most part. those I've been debating with wouldn't even deny Thomas was the league's best goalie....

You need to cut this shit out because I don't know one person here that hates you, and I (like many others) have a pretty good barometer of the board's likes and dislikes. You're an ok dude and everyone here knows it. Just a really unhappy prick.

What ever happened to integrity in sports?

Btw, calling me a typical Boston fan does nothing to strengthen your position, it just makes you look like someone with nothing to say...

Athletes today are born with killer instinct. They are driven by the word competition ALONE. Sure a team knows who's injured, who's in, who's out and what a certain player means to a team but once those lights kick on and it's game time, that is sorely thrown out the window because they know DAMN well that no matter WHO IT IS, that athlete with the other colored jersey is simply out to EMBARRASS you and they will do anything in their power to stop that from happening. When it comes down to it, a team must take what they got, go out and perform to win the game. I think that "beating a team full strength" applies more to the fan-base more-so than what a team is thinking. Full strength or not, that team is going out to pulverize you nonetheless, regardless of who's in or out. That's sports. Variables play a key part in everything that's considered and injuries are one of them.

That's the beauty of sports. If one goes down, you bet your ass someone behind them is ready for their opportunity to go out there and make a name for themselves.

It doesnt take a degree to know that you're unhappy ;) are you suggesting that you're not as grumpy and bitchy when your Boston loses, and only your S2M character gets all pissed at "cheap goals " ?! :?
