breitbart is an ass. he has done the defamatory thing before. i hope it was more the agriculture dept and not the top brass, obama himself, that called for the resignation. i wish the dems would develop a backbone and not cave into the rants and lies spewed by fox and the like. this is becoming the summer of race baiting, very sad.

Yes, Fox's baiters are getting exactly what they want. Anything to keep from having any meaningful discourse on the real issues that this country is facing. If anybody really paid attention to what is happening in congress there might be enough intelligence among the republican base for some of them to catch on to the truth.

OK...I thought those videos were by someone else. Anyway, what trumped-up ACORN charges? Is there additional video showing those workers were joking about helping the prostitutes or whatever it was?

he touted the videos on his website and spread the bs. he was instrumental in spreading the edited videos. the investigastions turned up no illegal activity. you never hear of the outcomes, just the lies that started the firestorm. he is a bad guy in my book.

In some ACORN offices, O'Keefe was turned away or employees called the cops on him. Separate investigations by Congress, the MA Attorney General, and Brooklyn prosecutors have either cleared ACORN or found the tapes to be selectively edited. None of these findings made FOX News, or Beck, who played the tapes on a seemingly endless loop. Don't get me wrong - ACORN office branches that were guilty should be shut down - but much like the USDA official story, there was an obvious rush to judgement by the media and elected officials.

If there's no video showing that the workers were just joking, that sounds pretty illegal to me to assist people in prostitution.

I don't think the claim was ever made that ALL employees in ALL ACORN offices were involved in illegal activity, was there? My previous question still stands...Were the videos edited to remove footage of the ACORN workers that would have shown they were just joking?

S.O.P. for Faux News and their party. If there's nothing real to get on the Dems just make something up and shout it loud enough and often enough and the majority of there audience/base will assume it's true.

There was no real story in Acorn or ABC would have found it when they were challenged by those morons at Faux and there is no real story in "the New Black Panthers" story. The black panthers have as much right to a party as the Tea Bagging idiots and they have as much right to hang around outside a polling place (and they're not nearly a intimidating as the tea bagging rabble to me).

i don't know all the videos dave. two wrongs don't make a right. acorn is gone, breitbart and his fox followers should go too. the practice of calling oneself a journalist or news organization and get away with dissseminating complete lies as facts is wrong and immoral in my book.

Then why did Congress attempt to pull funding for the entire organization? Hardly seems fair.

Not that I know of. Reports said that the tapes were heavily edited - the specifics of the edits I can't say. In the case of one ACORN office, the cops were contacted as soon as the kids left. That's what all the offices should have done.

Lula, other news organizations have been guilty of the same kinds of things. If anyone thinks Fox is worse than the likes of MSNBC, NBC, CBS, etc., they're fooling themselves. It's gone on since the dawn of media. Heck, I even remember as a kid or young teenager, hearing a story about NBC flat-out making up a story about some owl supposedly going extinct. More recently, some news organizations also did stories about the ANWR area of Alaska while showing a video that showed a place other than that area to make it look like it was some pristine wilderness full of trees, animals, etc., when that was actually far from the truth.

Why is that funny? It's an example of dishonesty in other news organizations. You can't selectively call out one of them and ignore the others.

not ignoring, i said okay. my opinion varies from yours about this stuff. i take issue with fox and some of the folks working there. i don't get my news from one source and i don't think other networks get away with spewing lies as facts as fox does.

What I'm saying is it's disingenuous to be upset at Fox for it any more than other networks. I see the same thing happening in other sources that you probably think are OK.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/2 ... 54134.html

Rachel Maddow went after Fox News Tuesday night for its role in propagating the Shirley Sherrod story, but she also criticized the White House for continuing to fall for the network's stunts.

After showing repeated instance of Fox News anchors pushing the idea that Sherrod was a racist based on an out-of-context excerpt of a speech she gave to the NAACP earlier this year, Maddow laid into the network.

"This is what Fox News does, this is how they are different from other news organizations," Maddow said. "This is why the White House argued months ago that Fox should be treated as a media organization but not as a normal news organization, because they don't treat news the way a normal news organization treats news. Just like the fake ACORN controversy, Fox News knows that it has a role in this dance....

"Fox does what Fox does, that is dog bites man, that is not interesting. What is interesting about this story is that the Obama administration inexplicably keeps falling for it."

Blasting the White House and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack for requesting Sherrod's resignation based on a false (or at least out-of-context) story, Maddow said:

Dear White House, dear administration: believing conservative spin about what's so wrong with you and then giving into that spin is not an effective defense against that spin. Just buying it and apologizing for it, and doing whatever they want you to do doesn't make the problem of them lying about you go away. In fact, it makes it worse...

The huge tide of negative publicity that followed these video tapes and the coverage they got on Fox wall-to-wall was a dishonest political stunt that bears no resemblance to journalism and no resemblance to the actual facts of what happened. But it worked. Means be damned, in the end it worked.
