Most Disappointing Release Of 2010

Linkin Park - A Thousand Suns

I understand trying to evolve as an artist but this was just too much. For me, the music really lost its edge on this album.
My analogy woud be Journey following up Frontiers with ROR.

nah...about what I expected from them. Generally competent, but nothing mind-blowing. Just about the same as the other albums. Marcie Free did an incredible job on vocals though, I must say.

The two for me would be...

Strangeways - Perfect World.....more of a case of not recording what people want you to record, and then an awful production that did them no favors at all. Great job by Terry Brock however. There are some good songs, but quality control should have come into play here. You aren't going to gain any new fans with the style, you are going to annoy the old ones who expected a return to the older style, and the few who care can't hear anything because of the horrendous mix.

Giant - Promise Land....ok, so it's not Giant. No real surprise. Take the name off, and I doubt hardly anyone would come up with the name. That's fine and I don't care. My main problem is that most all the songs left me cold.

Most dissapointing...

Ex-Calif. speaker's son's prison sentence commuted

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has commuted the manslaughter sentence of Esteban Nunez, the son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez.

Saying that he thought the 16-year prison sentence Esteban Nunez was serving was "excessive" the governor reduced his sentence from 16 years to 7 years.

The move comes just hours before Schwarzenegger leaves office.

Nunez pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon for his role in a fight that killed a 22-year-old man near San Diego State University in 2008.

Prosecutors say Nunez and friends went looking for a fight after they were refused entry to a fraternity party.

Seriously, some of the shit you people love and cherish...some of this utter shit you call music...Don't more than 14 people need to know of the band in order for them to be any good? I just can't wrap my head around some of this crap....Unruly Child? Nelson? Nelson for fucks sake?!! How about Appearance for Nothing? never heard of these bands. White widdow?. Bangsalore Choir?. Houston?.And my all time favourite= Good ol Captain Zapped. I see you gave these fucknobs a grand total of 2 out of a 100. yes folks, Andy delivered a grade of 2...as in 2 out of 100 for this band.

That is Awesome.

? You have got to be fucking kidding me?
Captain Zapped

Here is Andrew's review of Captain Zapped latest piece of shit release-

Frontman of Circus Of Power was Alex Mitchell. What a great band too – just great hard driving rock n roll with a sleazy edge.
This is his new band Captain Zapped. WTF? Together with Billy Tsounis (guitars/keys), Alex has recorded one of the very worst albums in the history of this website, or perhaps rock n roll in general. This is a complete load of tosh. An utter embarrassment to all involved.

More classic smack from McNeice-

It sounds as if it was recorded in a garage without electricity, on a farm where the only harvest on offer was really bad weed.
This is really and truly utter shit. Zero production value; zero effort on vocals (droaning half spoken at best); zero quality of songwriting and horrendous artwork complete with Alex dressed in a cape and leather caveman loincloth (and accompanying skull) on the back.

Mac goes even further, just destroying this band-

Musically it is all over the show – stoner rock, 70s psychedelic nonsense, God knows what else.
I just hope this review reaches people before they actually pay for this shit. Except for The Last Hard Men, this is the worst CD I have ever heard.

Now that is a strongly worded review. Hey Drew, did these clowns contact you and discuss this particular review? This is golden.

Whatever happened to the poster that swore there'd be some new SP in Dec'09? A friend of an uncle who knew the guy that took out the trash in some studio hallway...or something like that. I guess that all came and passed, as well as another entire year. Oh well.

With the understanding that everyone has a right to their own musical taste, I have found myself thinking the same thing.

I think it just a case of some folks who need all their music to sound, feel, and have all the hooks of the 80's....Their musical journey ended in 1989 and feel scared or threatened when hearing music of today.

While I love the fact that Melodic Rock gives many bands a place to be seen and/or heard, I do find myself laughing a bit when I see a "Major Announcement" for a band or artist that might sell 2,000 copies (that's being kind) of their music worldwide.

It's genius, dude. That album was supposed to be lean and completely stripped down. The songs are haunting. Anyone into lyrical magic will love this. Remember these are leftover songs from the Darkness on the Edge of Town album from 1978.

personally, I could care less how many copies an album sells. If I like it, I like it. Nothing more, nothing less. A good song is a good song, regardless of when it was written or what style. Some of it is melodic rock, some of it is other genres.

Some is newer bands, some older. Some of it is popular everywhere. Some of it is popular in the US, but didn't do anything anywhere else. Some of it did very well other places but didn't do well in the US--if it was released here at all. Some of it might not have done well anyplace. If it's popular, great. It means there is a good chance for a follow-up album, and maybe (if popular here), I might get to see the artist/band perform live. If it's not popular, I'll survive. One of the best albums I own (Richie Sambora's solo debut) didn't sell well at all. Has no relevance at all on the quality of the songs.

The music scene is notorious for hyping albums and bands to the hilt. It happens in all genres, melodic rock including. Andrew is notorious for hyping his favorite bands to the hilt. A tremendous amount of albums are over-hyped, and a few of them are under-hyped. Doesn't matter much for me. A vast majority of the hyping that goes on here are albums/bands I find exceedingly average.

In the end, it's all songs and delivery. If you have good songs and perform them well, I might like it. Simple.

I haven't heard it yet, but this is the type of album I usually fail to get excited on. If the songs weren't good enough to get released then (or at least had issues to where they didn't make the album), 30+yrs of sitting around doesn't usually make them any better. Sure, there is a rare gem every now and then, but most of the time, it was unreleased for a reason.

kgdjpubs, I don't want to be like Deb is with Mr Big, but the Darkness sessions was real weird. he wrote 70 songs for that album, taking ten. The two hits, Fire and because the Night, never even made the album...He gave them away to the Pointer Sisters and Patti Smith, respectively. Sure, Darkness produced Badlands and The Promised Land, legendary songs, but the others like I said were stripped down. factory is magbificent. Now on the new Promise cd, "Save My Love" is going to hit the top 40 next week I am told. That's pretty impressive for a song 33 years old(was vocally rerecorded last year though). Tell me this is not a flat out good catchy tune- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ouvatkp4_WY

Hey now.  I may be a major fan of both EM/Mr Big and JSS, but they both have albums I haven't been too keen on. Destroy All Monsters = EM, and Redlist = JSS, come to mind. I can still be a major fan without liking every single thing they've ever done. If I don't like something I will say so, but if I do like it, watch out, I'll defend it to the death. :P

Stats/units sold equates to a zero effect on whether my ears like what they are hearing or not. Sorry, platinum or not, I wasn't thrilled with The Promise either. Just as I wasn't thrilled with every single one of multi-platinum sellers Bon Jovi's albums too. That's where you/SJ and I differ. I can not like a multi-selling album and/or absolutely love one that doesn't sell as much. Stats/radio play/units sold have absolutely no bearing on what music I like. Hell, I probably wouldn't be a major Mr Big fan, if I went strictly on their #1 radio hit, To Be With You. It's the whole catalogue that grabs me.

You constantly throw my name around in this argument and it's totally erroneous. I think every Journey album pre-Escape is complete shit, vocally ... and they're all platinum. Conversely, I also think all of their albums with Augeri, including the highly overrated Arrival, all suck, too. And the Augeri albums haven't collectively sold a million. I'm solid on both sides of the equation.

You? You've taken the ball and run with this patently false argument because you simply have no way to explain why nobody likes much of the shit you listen to. I do, though. It's because it sucks.

I saw LA Guns last year with the Scorpions, Kixx, Vince Neil, Winger a few others. Not much about them impressed me other than the fact that the lead singer still has about 90% of his voice. House Of Lords suck and I don't know a thing about Crazy Lixx ... but with a handle like that I'm sure they blow.

We don't agree on alot of music, (although actually there is some we DO agree on from your lists) I would not say you are one that is swayed in any way by stats, etc. either.

SJ, I take back what I said about only liking multi-selling acts/albums, now that I think about it that's not totally true in your case. But I was basing alot of it on when you were constantly feeling the need to post show stats/units sold whenever anything about JSS is mentioned in a thread/post. I don't care about that stuff, if I like it, I'll travel to a show no matter how many are in attendance. So why bother trying to get under my skin?

And to use Dean's analogy, MB obviously don't suck, if their first album after so many years, can go gold within 24 hours. Their albums have sold just fine thanks. Not that that matters one iota to me. And obviously Jeff has been able to make a pretty decent living off his craft for the last 20 years or so also. Neither JSS or EM have dissappeared, so there is obviously still a demand for their talent. :P
