Came across this rock band called Mindwalk Blvd. comprised of 3 boys (age 11-14). These kids are extremely talented! I sat here stunned as I watched all of the videos currently posted of them playing both covers and originals. When I decided to post this, I honestly had a difficult time deciding which of their videos to choose - they're THAT good. So, after an "eenie, meanie, miney, noe..." here's them doing YYZ and an original song one after the other. Their cover of Fat Bottomed Girls is damn good too! Enjoy!

PS: The drummer is the 11 yr. old and his set is so big and so sweeeeeeeet that he has to stand up to reach the roto-toms when he does a big rolloff!

Their cover of YYZ is probably the tightest I've ever heard!

WOW! These kids are incredible! Just think, if they are this good now, how much better they are going to get! Heck, they're already better than most adults who have been playing for years.

Wow! That drummer has quite an impressive rig for an 11 year old. I was also impressed at the bass player who played the keyboard with one hand while playing the bass line with the other. These kids should have a great future if they stick with it.

Oh you're most welcome. Nothing, and I do mean NOTHING makes my heart grow two sizes than when I come across members of today's youth who have chosen to say no to the shit that passes for music these days and chooses the road paved with musicians who actually play their own instruments and the fact that they are apparently very happy with the music of our generation makes it that much sweeter.

Yeah, that kit is pretty massive - especially for that size kid. But if my kid was that talented with as bright of a future I'm sure he will, I'd buy him a monster rig too! Ya always have to remember your kids may have to take care of you one day. Better to make them happy, appreciative adults than pissed off, resentful teenagers!
As for the bassist playing the keys and bass at the same time... Yawn, Geddy's been doing that old chestnut for decades. Seriously though, not only is he playing both, he's playing the shit out of the bass with his left hand. Geddy stopped doing that bit years ago when they decided to go with the overlays in concert.

Tenks! I definitely agree! I'm going to love following the careers of these lads! As impressive as their performances are of the covers, their own stuff is right up there with any of the monsters in the industry today. It's fresh, you can hear distinct influences of a few different bands in their stuff but they don't rip anyone off either. My question is this... If that drummer is that good at 11 when did he start playing. Which leads to the next question.... If they're that tight as a band, when did they start playing together? Are they home schooled so they can spend every day practicing? And did you see the equipment they're using (mics, stands, keys, etc.)? It's not a stretch to assume these kids, being from Boston, come from at least a little bit of money - maybe not "old" money but some for sure.

Well, said, JM, well said. My sons did listen to some of the rap, but for the most part they were influenced by all the music I played and would get into and take off with my CD's all the time! no, I didn't mind a bit since it broadened their music knowledge and appreciation,

The thing about today's "music" is almost none of the performers play anything at all. The noise that accompanies them is all loops and pre-recorded riffs that they throw a beat on top of and toss in some rhymes and voila, it's on the radio the following week. Anything you hear on the radio today (today as in Saturday, June 25, 2011) will be out of the radio stations' playlists by this time next month and as "dope", "tight", "the shit" as it is today, the kids will find it to be unlistenable within 3 weeks while we on the other hand, are connected and attached to the music we listened to when we came of age. We purposely include the music that for some of us defined a certain time in our respective lives whether happy, sad, tragic or shameful.... each and every step of the way to becoming who we are today can be associated with our own personal playlists because the music we grew up with wasn't abandoned simply because another band released an album - that's just idiocy and stupidity. 10 years from now there will still be classic rock stations and those stations will be playing all the stuff that has become "classic" during that time and they'll also still be playing songs from the playlists they use today! Pretty sure the same can't be said for the music of today's generation.

Here's a time lapse vid of the drummer in various performances from age 2-11. (When I first read the age range, I did a double take.... 2??! as in two - the number immediately after 1??!) By age 6 he's already playing with a band and at 9 he's playing in clubs! Phenomenal !

And ya know, since he lives in Boston and the band has won a couple of prestigious awards in the north-east, I'd be willing to bet Smitty's familiar with him.

Awesome! A child prodigy like Neal Schon. All three of these kids are very talented. Hopefully they can stay together like Rush has and have a lot of success if thats what they want. They've definitely got it goin' on. Heck, I'm a fan already!

Sadly, after further research, they have broken up but all 3 are currently playing in bands and continuing with their interests and aspirations in becoming professional musicians. THANK GOD!! Could you imagine if any of them woke up one day and decided they were bored with it and wanted to try something else...
The last year I coached my tournament team, I had a girl who was hands-down the best, most talented player I had ever coached. She was destined to get a full ride at the school of her choosing if she had continued to play. Unfortunately, she got pregnant senior year of high school and quit school to move-in with the baby daddy and you can probably guess the rest of the story - to my knowledge, she never wore her mitt again. It broke my heart for her.

Yes, yes they certainly do. It's been a privilege to watch their videos tonight. I love their sound! It's fresh and new but so familiar at the same time. And the harmonies they're able to pull off.... very tight and bright! I think I've got a new, favorite-new-band.

Singer reminds me of a young ric~rac!!!

It's amazing to find such young talent out there. Cherri Bomb caught my attention when these girls were just 10 - 11, somewhere in there.
The were doing covers and their name at that time was "Red Shadow". I think they are 14-15 now, not sure. I see their previous vids have
been pulled.

Holy Shnikees MG! I knew the kid reminded me of someone but I couldn't put my finger on it. He does look like a little ric-rac! My wife and my youngest are in LUUUUUV with the drummer... "OMG! He has the prettiest eyes...." and "He is sooooooo cute!!" Rachel, my youngest had me send her a link so she could "check them out". I was sorta suspicious due to the fact she H A T E S hard rock and even dislikes rap if it's to.... rappy?
