New Pink Floyd?

Postby FormerDJMike » Sun Jul 06, 2014 5:27 am

Heard on the radio today that Pink Floyd is working on a new album called The Endless River with a release date scheduled for this fall. Supposedly will contain keyboard tracks from Rick Wright but no mention if Waters is involved. Andrew see if you can find any info to this. Sounds interesting.

Looks more and more to be an instrumental (with very few vocal tracks) or almost a side project with no new tracks, only left-overs from Division Bell. Also, no Roger involvement, unfortunately. Found this on another forum:

The Pink Floyd Facebook page just posted this.

"Pink Floyd can confirm that they are releasing a new album "The Endless River" in October 2014. It is an album of mainly ambient and instrumental music based on the 1993/4 Division Bell sessions which feature David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album is produced by David Gilmour with Phil Manzanera, Youth and recording engineer Andy Jackson. Work is still in progress, but more details to come at the end of the Summer."

I hope it's not elevator music with one or two songs, that's no way for the remaining members to do to the name of Pink Floyd. They need to reach out to Waters and see if he would be willing to join in for a REAL swan song of an album. I hope this album doesn't shit a brick but I'm not getting my hopes up.

And Roger speaks out...

Roger Waters has issued an angry statement about his lack of involvement in the new Pink Floyd album.
Waters, who left the band in 1985, issued the message to fans via Facebook after receiving inquiries as to his role in the band's new album 'Endless River'. Explaining that he has nothing to do with the album and that he is no longer a member of the band, Waters signed off the message by telling people to "get a grip."
The full message from Waters' Facebook is as follows: "Some people have been asking Laurie, my wife, about a new album I have coming out in November. Errhh? I don’t have an album coming out, they are probably confused. David Gilmour and Nick Mason have an album coming out. It’s called 'Endless River'. David and Nick constitute the group Pink Floyd. I on the other hand, am not part of Pink Floyd. I left Pink Floyd in 1985, that’s 29 years ago. I had nothing to do with either of the Pink Floyd studio albums, 'Momentary Lapse Of Reason' and 'The Division Bell', nor the Pink Floyd tours of 1987 and 1994, and I have nothing to do with Endless River. Phew! This is not rocket science people, get a grip."
Speaking last year, drummer Nick Mason revealed that he would be interested in a full band reunion with Waters, but was not certain it will ever materialise.
'The Endless River' will include music recorded with multi-instrumentalist Richard Wright, who died in 2008 aged 65.

Personally speaking, if Waters would get the corncob out of his rectum, I'd be all for him doing another album with Pink Floyd. Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with a Gilmour-led version of the band as long as the music is done as well as "The Division Bell", which is one of my favorite PF albums. Not quite up there with "Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish You Were Here", or "The Wall", but still pretty decent.

Something clearly went down since the Live 8 reunion and follow up appearance Gilmour made on Waters' "The Wall" tour. They seem at odds with each other again. Frankly, I never sensed Gilmour had completely gotten over it. He had the cold shoulder thing going on - even on stage. Sucks ... this was one great band at one time.

I also get the impression that some of Water's views on the whole thing haven't changed that much over the years either.

Well, Waters definitely said the whole lawsuit thing was one he'd do over if he could. But Gilmour sure can hold a grudge.

I bet he still feels that PF should have ended when he quit the band.
