Solo success

Besides Phil Collins, I am trying to think of artists from successful bands who had long term success equal to or greater than they did with their original band. Maybe Clapton, Stevie Nicks, or who? Perry had one successful album, Don't Henley has had some, but neither as much as with Journey or the Eagles. Who am I not thinking about?

Peter Cetera had one really good solo album...I do not believe he comes close to what Chicago did. He is essentially where Steve Perry is.

He's not a vocalist (though he does sing here and there), but Jan Hammer absolutely qualifies. He's had much more success on his own than he did with Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Donny Osmond original broke from the Osmonds, to greater solo success, then to further success with Donnie and Marie, then back to half-decent success on his own.

Yea - Cetera would not really count. I think he himself was probably making more money on his own via his tours and such. But overall success would go to Chicago for sure.

To create a new band. "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" was not a solo venture. That didn't happen until later...and again, he did not have nearly the success as he did with with the Heartbreakers.

I’d never diss the work with the Heartbreakers but Full Moon Fever and Wildflowers, Toms 2 best selling albums, were solo efforts, albeit aided by some of the Heartbreakers.

Hard to separate Petty from the Heartbreakers into solo for me. I always thought of Petty as a solo act with the Heartbreakers his backup band. Sort of like Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band for me. Neither the Heartbreakers or the Silver Bullet Band would have been anything without Petty or Seger.

I love this album.

I had it on cassette and it broke. I looked for it again a few years ago and couldn't find it. Not even to download.

Found it used on Amazon today. Also found The Storm new, for $68. For that price, it better be signed by all original members and hand delivered with lunch to my door by Gregg Rolie himself.
