For 17 albums and 17 years, Peter Cetera was bassist and one of the singers with brass rock pioneers Chicago. But after leaving them in 1985, though he continued to put out albums and have hits, he pretty much hung up his road boots. And other than a small handful of shows in the mid-90s, he didn't return to regular touring until 2002. He has said in interviews over the years that during his time with Chicago they toured faithfully every year and he no doubt was pretty road weary after all that.

At the beginning of the 2000s, he began to hear from promoters about doing some concerts. So he decided to stick his toe back into the touring world gradually, agreeing to a small amount of dates each year, which he continues to do.

I first saw him in 2006 backed up by an orchestra. But recently he decided to trade the orchestral backing for rockin' hot combo The Bad Daddies: Boh Cooper (keyboards), Steve Brewster (drums), Joe Chemay (bass), Tony Obrohta (guitar), Chris Rodriguez (guitar), Jonathan Hamby (keyboards) and Tania Hancheroff (vocals).

Even though I'd enjoyed the 2006 concert, this one, with the more rocking backup, was more to my liking and TEN MINUTES LONGER. I had thought the 06 show was a bit too short at one hour and 10 minutes.

High tenor Peter now sings most of these songs that he recorded in his 20s and 30s a half step or two down from where they were before. But nevertheless, he was looking quite dapper and was in fine form.

The set was a mix of his solo stuff, Chicago hits and some of the duets he'd had over the years with Cher, Amy Grant, etc. Currently Tania Hancheroff handles the girl vocals and many of the high harmonies. And she wowed us with her solo turn on the Beatles "Oh Darlin'. And guitarist Chris Rodgriguez gave us another Beatles Abbey Road classic "Come Together".

My friend and fellow concertgoer, Bob, probably best liked the classic Chicago chestnuts "Feelin' Stronger Every Day" and "25 or 6 to 4" that Peter encored with. But I have to say it was the early 80s ones, "Love Me Tomorrow" and "Stay the Night", that did it for me. Special memories connected with those two!

This was our first time at Parx Casino and the Xcite Center was of pretty good size and drew a good crowd, though it wasn't sold out.
