...Not my first choice as far as European bands go...not even close! But their #18 showing on the U.S. Charts can't be ignored. Possibly could this open a gateway for future Euro bands to achieve success in the states?

I like HIM. Of course I do, they're Finnish. :D Their Razorblade Romance album is on my favorites list. I found a DVD of theirs here in Perth so that was pretty cool.

I'm a HUGE HIM fan. They are in my top three ('Ryche, Dokken, and HIM). The band is now achieving some commercial success here in the States for which I'm proud. Ville Valo writes lyrics which are literary and emotionally laden. For some people, I know they can't get past the 'emo' or the 'goth' image of the band itself, but I recommend giving them a try with an open mind.

Lyrics such as:
"The kiss of vanity blessed me with a spiritual murder
And fed the gods of war insatiable
Your home is where the dark is, I should've told her
And embraced the fire indestructible" Buried Alive By Love (from Love Metal)

"The heretic seal beyond divine
A prayer to a god who's deaf and blind
The last rites for souls on fire
Three little words and a question: why?" Funeral of Hearts (Love Metal)

"I know how easy it is to let go
Surrender to despair lurking at your door
To lose your soul and all your feelings
Strenght all gone
And so many things left unsaid
And deeds undone
You've stopped caring
'Cause it's all in vain " Don't Close Your Heart (Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights)

..are just the barest samples of what Ville and the band have written. The depth of the words far surpass what I've posted here. 'Love Metal' is a great starting point for someone who wants a good example of what this band has become. If you want a CD which shows the progression of them through the years, "And Love Said No" is the greatest hits album. 'Dark Light" is the current CD from them.

Pardon. I'm a bit of a zealot when it comes to HIM. I truly adore the music!from them.
