How does Within Temptation manage to beat Evanescence at their own game time and time again...I know I'm beating on a dead horse, but PLEASE TOUR THE STATES!!!!

Ok now that song beats everything off the last evanescence cd, lacuna coil cd and basically everything from the last WT cd as well.

Very nice

Heard the new single (What Have You Done) and its pretty good too. Very much leans towards the sound of the first Evanescence cd but that doesnt bother me one bit

So far 2-2 on the new stuff. They sound good

I agree that the new stuff is better than everything on Evanescence's last album.

I disagree that it's up-to-par with The Silent Force. The Silent Force touched me as a listener for being unique and powerful. While as their new material is strong and commercial, it just doesn't move me the same way because some of the uniqueness was lost in following another band.

IMO, any time a band sells-out a little bit to cater to US fans, I often consider it to be a step backwards...Lacuna Coil was the only exception, because I thought by going modern they improved drastically.

I'm still waiting for a Euro band to market their style, with their flare, with no sign of following another band or turning even remotely modern, and make it big in the US market. I had hoped Within Temptation would've been the first. I really felt they missed the mark when they didn't start marketing in the states with The Silent Force. Perhaps that would've forced Evanescence to raise their bar a little higher.

I cant argue the point you make about the previous release (Silent Force) being more unique and should/could have been marketed here in the US more. I guess a point here is that for WT, this is something new for them and not the exact same sound as on prior releases. Bands always say they want to do something different each time so in some ways this may be a natural progression for them.

Now on Lacuna Coil. Their latest release which as you say is more modern is just horrendous. Very boring cd right there. Comalies was far better and also got recognized here in the states a little more with some songs making the soundtracks of various movies. Sticking with that Comalies style (I think) could have worked better for them and would have seen them fare decently without adopting the "modern" sound that we get here in America - which largely sucks anyway...which in turn is why we end up finding bands in Europe to begin with.

In the end I just want to hear songs I like, regardless of a musical direction.
