I'm sure everyone who's attended has a kickass story to tell regarding the weekend, so feel free to share with everyone else here on this thread. Here's mine.
Well holy shit! Laura and I have returned from the concert. My feet couldn't hurt more, my voice is shot to hell. Ahhh.... what a great great time.
To all the wonderful people I finally got to meet, ya'll rock. It was a true pleasure.
Kevin Chalfant... what can I say. Seriously... I sit here in a loss for words. UNFRICKIN BELIEVABLE SHOW. The man channelled Perry, but it wasn't just his incredible voice.. it was just a supreme rock show. More on Kevin in a few.
Jeff... HOLY FRICKIN SHIT. STAND UP AND SHOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUTTTT! Again, words cannot describe what an unbelievably fantastic show this man puts on. I have not grinned this much in ages. The sheer energy and enthusiasm he gives off is amazing beyond words.
Scrap Metal... again, you bring that many incredible musicians on stage, all jamming and having a great time, (ala Camp Freddy), it's infectious. Jimi Jamison... omg... I was in awe. Jack Blades is a madman! The Nelson brothers...two VERY cool guys.
OK... so... after a very long ass day, shows over. I managed to get pics with Jeff Scott Soto and Kevin Chalfant, so I was happier than piss. We weren't invited to the after party, BUT....
Laura had an invitation to meet up with Kevin Chalfant after the show, and then Kevin invited Laura and I backstage to meet Josh Ramos. Cool...cool. We stood around for a bit until they were ordering everyone without a pass to leave (Kevin was on his cell trying to reach Josh). and then Kevin basically pulled us backstage at that point in a hunt for Josh. We went back stage and downstairs with Kevin, who went into the after party looking for him, then back out (hiya Liam...bye Liam...), up the stairs (after I tripped on the frickin steps...argh), down the other set of stairs to the basement to the dressing rooms.
Yeah.
Kevin went a searchin... and ultimately found Mr. Ramos, who was kind enough to chat w/ us for a bit, take a pic, Kevin handed me his water..Awwwww...what a sweetie. Rockstar water...it's all good. On our way out, Nelson brothers stopped us, more pics, more schmooze. Cool guys.
OK... Life is Fucking GOOD! Pics to be downloaded once I get home.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAH fuckin AAAHAHAHHA
Now back to LA for another 2 weeks of debauchery!!!!

Ok, I'm going to try and give a recap of my weekend, so strap yourselves in.
The plan was to for Niggy and myself to drive from Baltimore to Northern Virginia on Thursday night and meet up with duke22 and dcvader at Vader's place. The idea was to leave seriously early on Friday morning for a 9 to 10 hour ride to South Bend.
Niggy's wife hasn't been feeling well, so he had to stay home and take care of her at the last minute (hope she's doing ok Nig). So instead I made the trek down to Virginia by myself. Niggy came by and dropped off the tickets as well as a framed Journey band autographed copy of Frontiers that he donated. That was auctioned off on Saturday and congrats to the winner.
I arrived at Vaders place around 8:30pm or so and we had just a few beers, watched the Yankee game and hit the sack for a 4am departure. 4am comes up a lot in this story. We got up on time and hit the road that early. By the time we hit Frederick, Maryland I was having a nasty coughing fit that lasted well into our trip on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. We had all just seen JSS in La Plata, MD last Monday and I wasn't feeling well then either. Fortunately that cough eventually disappeared sometime before we hit Ohio.
As usual we were laughing constantly and talking about things that go on at Melodicrock, The Annex and The Bash Journey Forums. Thankfully, those conversations will never be heard outside the 3 of us.
Besides all the one liners, we were on the phone with many members here, finding out their progress and making plans for the Friday night "South Bender". RVR called me at one point and mentioned he had departed Pittsburgh without his tickets and was well into Ohio and might have to turn back. That delay was unacceptable as we had partying to do. We got him in contact with Andrew and disaster was soon averted. Onward to South Bend and the Residence Inn!
The 3 of us made it to South Bend around 2pm. Eating was becoming very important so we stopped in some restaurant near the theater. There aren't many choices in South Bend and we just picked whatever we could find. Most of the major eateries seem to be in a town a few minutes away called Mishawaka. You'd think a college town like South Bend would have more, but it really doesn't. Anyway after a mediocre lunch and a few beers we checked into the hotel and waited for others to arrive for Friday night's party.
As usual I will break this up into multiple posts so not as to run on to much. More later.

"The South Bender" - part 1
Ok, first off, once the story gets later on in the evening on Friday and Saturday - anyone who was there is welcome to fill in some of the numerous blanks I will most likely leave out. I wasn't exactly a bastion of sobriety later on in the evening.
That said....
Once we arrived at the hotel, dcvader and duke22 (Dave and Joe from this point forward) proceeded to go through their usual travel ritual of setting up their laptops and finding a wireless connection. Dave is totally a pro Apple/Mac guy and Joe is totally with Microsoft, so this usually causes at least five minutes of them bashing each others product. The ipod was also setup so we had tunes.
At this point I decided to call the Wombat to let him know that while Niggy was sadly not with us, that I still had the autographed album for the auction. I got Andrew on the phone, and man you can definitely tell what part of the world he's from. Goodday on ya mate! LOL. This was not my first phone conversation with him, so I knew what to expect. Wombat was in Chicago and in good spirits. I mentioned the situation and wanted to see if I could just bring the auction item to the show on Saturday. He assured me that was fine, so that bit of business was taken care of.
Soon after Kim and Rhiannon showed up, so of course we checked into another hotel.........
Just kidding of course. They were the first to arrive and I don't think their room was ready yet. I went to take a shower while they b.s.'d with Dave and Joe. Soon after the phone started ringing off the hook with calls from RVR, Saint John, Granny and most of the usual suspects. It was decided that we would all go out and grab some dinner before heading to Saint John's room for the actual bender. We were more than fine with that knowing that whatever room we all ended up in would most likely get trashed.
Before dinner I took a trip out with Granny and her daughter Cindy to pick up additional alcohol. The liquor store we found didn't have a particular brand of liquor Carol was looking for so we got a small tour of South Bend's perimeter. It's kind of trashy outside of Notre Dame and the actual theater area. Saint John had mentioned this to us and he was accurate. It wasn't that it was a war zone or anything, but just kind of seedy in spots. Liam actually called to ask us to pick up some things for him to bartend with, but by that point I just told Granny and Cindy that we had to get back and that Liam and Jen would have to fend for themselves. We were having no luck finding an alternative to the first liquor store and it was time to get back.
On our return the hotel was full of people wearing Annex T-shirts. We had them specially made for the trip and they've been pictured here elsewhere. It was decided that we would mostly only wear them on Friday night, and not bring them to the actual concert out of respect to Andrew and that the show is a Melodicrock event. I wore mine to it on Saturday since I started the site, but picked up an MR shirt later on and wore that most of the night - more about all that later.
The "bender" started off at an Italian restaurant that was able to accomodate the rather large party we had. A few of us weren't all that hungry and Liam found a bar down the street and a small portion of us headed over there. Soon after, Stu called and said he and Emily were at another larger bar just up the street, so the rest of us piled in there. I can't remember the name of the place, but this is where business picked up once everyone else finished dinner and met the rest of us there.

y'all Laura is BEAUTIFUL!!! I was in the Vine restaurant and she is strolling by outside. I'm yelling to the others "That's LAURA!!"" I couldn't get up in time to chase her down.
Then she comes in the restaurant a few minutes later and I'm still yelling "LAURA! LAURA!" . she's scared to death I'm sure at this point but acknowledges the screamer and we finally get to meet her!! all 15 of us!!

Yep,I was surprised,I had no idea who knew me there,we had just arrived and hadn't seen any MRers on the streets.It was kinda dark inside the restaurant,it took sometime to see things,LOL!I think I've recognized almost everyone.

I don't even know where to start! It was a lot of fun from Friday right through yesterday. (Ok, luggage drama excluded.) The show was awesome and getting to meet lots of MR folks was FANTASTIC!!!!
