Rob Zombie's Halloween:

...has been greenlit. In keeping with the annoying trend of remakes and now the subtrend of "re-imagining"s this will neither be a sequel nor a remake, whatever the hell that means.

My first preference would be a direct sequel to the series with Carpenter at the helm.
Second would be a sequel to II with Carpenter at the helm, like John Carpenter's H20 (H28 now).
Third would be for Carpenter to remake the original.

This reimagining stuff with a gore director is way down the preference list.

Well, I am a BIG fan of Zombie's other movies (House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects). I think he will do a great job with it. I would rather see a "re-imagining" than a scene-for-scene remake like the new Omen where there are no surprises whatsoever. Well made film, but unnecessary since it did not improve upon the first.

BTW, Zombie got Carpenter's blessing. That was so important to him that he wouldn't do the film without it.

I know I read about that, but Carpenter is a greedy fuck who would let ME do it if I forked over enough coin for the rights. He;s said this kinda shit over and over again. He doesn't care. The Fog remake had a documentary where the makers talked about being worried about getting the rights from Carpenter and Carpenter just said "Make me rich."

I hope that Zombie consorts closely w/ JC on this. This is friggin The Godfather of horror.

Never saw any, know they're like gorefests, though. I'd rather a remake, not shot-for-shot like Psycho, but a remake than a reimagining.

Just not a fan of messing with the perfection that is H1.
My 1 piece of crucial advice would be to really actually film it in the midwest suburbs and do it in the fall.

Hubby and I used to have friends over once a week
to all sit around the T.V playing Silent Hill and
Resident Evil...I wouldn't let our son's play those but damn fine
entertainment it is for us adult like folks.

I will say it looks pretty creepy. Filmed in Pasadena and other LA suburbs, as were the original first 2, THAT is major step in the right direction.

I much prefer the original John Carpenter version, it's a classic.

I didn't care too much for Rob Zombie's version. The T&A was nice though.

Myers-as-a-child was too long, although the murder of the kid in the woods and the killing of the nurse at the asylum are stunning scenes. Beautiful.

Gets really good the night he escapes and soars from there.
Haddonfield looked amazing and so did the new myers.

Yes, I could have done without the Michael as a child portion of the film. I didn't need or even want to have any background on his childhood, other than when he kills his sister at the beginning of the original film.

IMO they ruined the newest version of King Kong by adding all kinds of unnecessary background to the beginning of the film, and it made the film too damn long. I much prefer the first 2 versions of King Kong.

Rob Zombie is sort of the very definition of mediocre for me as a film maker.

House of 1, 000 Corpses (2003) **
The Devil's Rejects (2005) ** 1/2

In terms of the Halloween remakes what he has going for him is that all the sequels were so awful that his film looks much better by comparison.

Here's how I rank the Halloween series -

Halloween (1978) **** - great / incredible
Halloween II (1981) *1/2 - just awful
Halloween III Season of the Witch (1982) ** Has nothing to do with the actual series, but is still better than Halloween II
Halloween 4 (1988) **
Halloween 5 (1989) *1/2
Halloween 6 (1995) * 1/2
Halloween H20 (1998) **1/2 not bad - the last half hour showdown with Jamie Lee is what this movie is all about
Halloween Resurrection (2002) * The worst of the worst

Halloween (2007) **1/2 not bad but not great either - typical Rob Zombie flick
Halloween II (2009) **
