"SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE" SET FOR RELEASE ON APRIL 29

Album Release Kicks Off With U.S. Spring Concert Tour!
Album Contains 11 NEW Original Songs Including the Single "Nine Lives" Featuring Tim McGraw

New York, February 28, 2008 - Def Leppard, Great Britain's premiere arena rock band, is back with a bang-kicking off 2008 with the release of their 14th studio album and a U.S. arena concert tour scheduled for this spring. Entitled "SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE" (Bludgeon Riffola/Island/UMe), the album set for release on April 29, contains 11 new songs including the highly-anticipated single "NINE LIVES" featuring a groundbreaking collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw. The band is set to debut the single on ABC-TV's Dancing With The Stars on April 29 and on Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 30. "SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE" is Def Leppard's first album of brand new material since 2002's "X" and begins yet another remarkable new chapter in the band's 30-year recording career.

Recorded last year during month-long stints at lead singer Joe Elliott's Dublin studio, the album's title refers to a backstage area called "The Sparkle Lounge" on Def Leppard's 2006 tour where the band would go to write songs. Tracks from the album have been described by the group as written in the style of "HYSTERIA", with the production of "HIGH 'N' DRY"

"The whole record's got a great '70s feel," said lead singer Joe Elliott. "By our standards, it's a very different album as we've been very adventurous, musically, on certain numbers. On the album there are classic Def Leppard songs and then there's also tracks that are very new-wave influenced while others sound like middle-to-late '70s AC/DC. There will definitely be some moments on it where anybody that's familiar with our music will go, 'Whoa! I wasn't expecting that!'"

The foundation for the album's collaboration with country music superstar Tim McGraw was layed at Def Leppard's 2006 Hollywood Bowl show where McGraw joined the band on stage for an encore performance of "POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME." The artists stayed in touch following the performance, and when the band started writing the song "NINE LIVES" they immediately thought of reaching out to McGraw to sing on it. Guitarist Phil Collen flew to Nashville to play it for McGraw who loved it and recorded the song in Nashville shortly after. Other standout tracks on the album include "GO," reminiscent of the band's classic track "ROCKET" in its power and aggressive tribal beat; "LOVE," an emotive and moving epic song; and the anthemic "TOMORROW," a song written by guitarist Collen about the death of his father.

With more than 65 million albums sold worldwide and two prestigious Diamond Awards to their credit, Def Leppard--Joe Elliott (vocals), Vivian Campbell (guitar), Phil Collen (guitar), Rick "Sav" Savage (bass) and Rick Allen (drums)-continues to be one of the most important forces in rock music. Over the course of their career, the band has produced a series of classic groundbreaking albums that set the sound for generations of music fans and artists. The group's spectacular live shows, filled with powerful melodic rock anthems, have become synonymous with their name and they are an institution in the touring industry as they continue to sell out arenas worldwide.

The 11 working titles on the new album are as follows:

Go
Nine Lives
C'mon C'mon
Love
Tomorrow
Cruise Control
Hallucinate
Only The Good Die Young
Bad Actress
Come Undone
Gotta Let It Go

So I guess they are going with this album title?.. Either way.. I'm intrigued, I'll be picking up their new album. 8)

I could care less about the title as long as the songs are good. Im pleased with the first single.

Looking forward to another Tour and imagine with the same singer. What a concept.

Songs from the new album will debut on "Rockline" on Wednesday March 26th according to Darrens UK Def Leppard Site...C'mon C'mon will be the second single, Love is the ballad, Gotta Let Go and Go are typical Def Leppard according to the promo...theres also some stuff on there that you wouldnt think is Def Leppard...so it sounds like a mixed bag of material on the album!

Rockline....

Postby I Am Canadian » Fri Mar 28, 2008 9:09 am

Yeah they played about 7 full length songs, and the other 3 were snippets. More of a modern rock feel to some of them, defintely rawer and more edgy for the most part. The track "Go" sounds like Nine Inch Nails....Bad Actress, Tomorrow, Hallucinate, C'mon, C'mon, the latter sounded a bit glam, sounded like Lepp but with an updated vibe....Love was the only ballad...certainly heavier than X.....cant wait to hear the whole thing in late April.

The preview certainly curtailed my eagerness to buy the new cd. But I'll buy anyway.

Ah, damn. They're not streaming this show again until after the release date. That sucks.

Oh hell yeah! I'm totally impressed with these songs. They blow away X, even in their shoddy ripped state. Can't wait for this album now. These guys have been my favorite band since the day Hysteria came out. The first band I ever really got into, and Hysteria remains my all-time favorite album. But X was pretty bad. It was like a shit sandwich with good bread ("Now" and "Scars"); the rest was pretty shitty.

This album isn't like Def Leppard channeling old school Def Leppard, but instead their influences. There's a serious 70s glam vibe to a lot of the songs—which makes the album title a little less gay, I guess. Haha. And even the more modern-sounding songs like "Cruise Control" and "Gotta Let It Go" have a bit of that retro feel. I think them recording all those covers for Yeah! put them in a different headspace. I'm not complaining! Seems like "Go" is the most experimental; but man—that's a badass tune. Nice and heavy.

Those are my initial thoughts, anyway. Been listening to these samples on shuffle since I last posted, so I think I have a good idea. We'll see if my opinion changes when the album comes out. I'll deleted these MP3s soon.

After giving the new album three full listens....there is not really a single track that is memorable. I respect the talents of all the guys (Esp. Viv) but this is another weak effort by the band. I think I've bought my last Def Leppard CD. I'll still go see them live as they put on a great show.

Musicfan, is three listens enough? There's a lot of albums I love that took me quite awhile to warm up to (Hysteria comes to mind). Everyone's different, though, so I'm not knocking your opinion. It's pretty tough if there isn't at least one song that keeps you coming back to an album.

Well let's put it this way...I popped it in on my ride to work and back (two more listens) and honestly...still not one song that makes me go yeah! Cool! I really wanted to like it. Honestly. But I don't sadly. I still love the band and the talents of the guys, but this album misses for me.
