Neal has sided with Perry more times than I care to think of: chose between Aynsleyor Perry; Choose between Gregg or Perry; Choose between Ross and Smitty or Perry; Choose between Gregg and Kevin or Perry....

This is from the GQ article. Gee, I wonder who the people are the author is referring to.  8)

Afterward, there’s a bottleneck in the lobby of the theater. As everyone shuffles slowly toward the doors that lead to the mezzanine above the casino, someone in the crowd starts singing the Nah nah, na nah nah / Na na na nah nah refrain from “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’,” the last song of the night. (It’s the one song in Journey’s catalog where you can most clearly hear the Sam Cooke mannerisms in Steve Perry’s delivery, and Pineda nailed it—an Asian guy imitating a white Californian imitating a black guy from Chicago, on a stage in a Las Vegas hotel with “Hollywood” in the name. The mind reels.)
Then, as if the air-conditioning has started pumping karaoke spores, other people join in and start singing Nah nah, na nah nah / Na na na nah nah, too. It only lasts for a few seconds, but those seconds are maybe the most sincere moment of community I’ve experienced at a rock show in a long, long time—and they feel like proof that the Pineda-fronted version of Journey has succeeded in giving people the kind of life-affirming Journey experience they were looking for.

Oh yeah, and I bet he's working on some real hard rocking tunes...right...Perry has been firmly entrenched in the Celine Dion/Peter Cetera camp since Open Arms. Too bad, because the FTLOSM tour stop I attended was a fairly kick ass event. Perry was fantastic!! Any new Perry CD will disappoint Journey fans but will delight easy listening radio program directors for years. Looking forward to seeing Arnel rock New England.

We've since learned from Herbie Herbert that Nostrildamus never entered the room without his team of lawyers. Some things never change I guess. Most cowards hide behind lawyers, though. It's easier than facing tough questions.

Oh and Herbie is the pillar of truth? The man can't tell the same story twice within a 10 minute period.

Schon is a greed ball, not to mention he cant keep his tool in his pants. His comment in the article starts that he doesn't feel SP should be making any money off of Journey. Let's remember that the majority of the songs that were re-recorded have Perry listed as songwriter, so he deserves to get paid. Schon is a great guitarist, one of the best, HOWEVER he is dumb at business and even dumber when it comes to love. Dont flatter him too much as being a true business man, it might go to his head(s).

OK, I need some clarification on this one.

Please give me some examples of how Herbie changed his story from one interview to the next, please. I've read the interviews, and I recall him being pretty consistent on his side of things.

To your second point: Schon isn't saying Perry shouldn't get paid for his songwriting. As you may recall, Herbie said that Perry also gets a percentage of touring revenues. That's what Schon is referring to. I think he's saying, "We're the ones on the tour busses, going up on stage night after night, and Perry is sitting at home, making bank off our sweat and hard work. How is that fair?" In Perry's defense, hey, it's a good gig if you can get it. Walking out the mailbox and going, "HELLO, check!," sure does give you ample free time.

Third: Why do you care how often, or with whom, Schon "can't keep his tool in his pants?" Isn't that supposed to be one of the fringe benefits of being a rock star? Now, if he cheated on his significant others, sure, that's not the most noble exploit, but I read a stat the other day that around 23 million men in America cheat, so it ain't exactly like he's the Lone Ranger here.

Fourth: He may very well be dumb at business, but give him the credit enough to have held on to his part of the lighting and video production company, which is more than can be said for the other members.

Lastly, I'm not a Schon defender. I think they screwed JSS too.

Then he nixed a ready-to-go lineup and fired their manager before leaving them in shambles.

Hm.
Reading between the lines, one can surmise that upon getting downwind of the reformation of Journey he "got this urge to be in Journey again" and went to the band and said "Hey, I got a better idea. Show Chalfont, Greg and Double H the door and I'M back."
Figuring that he could then pretend to be "back in the band" and that without he and Herbie, Journey would then drop about 15 rungs on the Azoff stable totem pole (WITH perry you figure Journey, VH and the Iggles are 1, 1a and 1b) and be forced to try and fruitlessly forge ahead like the red-haired Azoff stepchild they became? The bridge with Herbie successfully incinerated there's no going back to him either after p left. Figuring that would discourage the Schon/Cain powerstructure enough to shelve the band.
The insurance was the gag order/no-show job.

All just supposition, mind you.

No way. I am as big a fan of Perry-era Journey as anyone, but the Eagles are in another stratosphere. I am going to see VH tonite, and you can still buy tickets TODAY on the floor for face value. Eagles sell out within minutes. Journey with Perry would be comparable to VH.

Well, whatever that's fine I can agree w/ that.
However you want to arrange those names they're all 1s in 1996 in the Irv stable until p leaves.
Just look at my REAL point.
Had they not been pushed over a barrel with the "Can Herbie and I'll come back" ultimatum,
Herbie could've focused his attention on the band, not managing that many people, and they could theoretically have barely skipped a stride when they had to move on from perry, picked up Chalfont or Augeri and Deen and gone right ahead with attentive, COMMITTED management.
No, the key was burning the Herbie bridge for the band.

One thing I notice about the article is it seems reading the article that Steve Augeri was only in the band very breifly. One sentence talks about SA bring brought in and like the next sentence talks about his departure. Seems like wasn't SA in that band for something like ten years? That's what I gather from what I've read on this site anyways. If you didn't know SA or Journey, reading that article one would think SA was in the band for only a very breif time, like a few months or something.

Anyways, first time today I got the chance to read it a bit. I thought it was o.k. Very long. I didn't finish it, but I will soon.
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

I remember that, lol.

Wow, that made the article? That was a pretty unique moment at a concert. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that.

It really was a pretty unique moment...and I hate that song, but enjoyed the hell out of singing it that night!!! We always seem to leave some sort of impression wherever we go, eh? Wonder what Texas is gonna think of us?

Maybe you'd get some leniency in your "kidding" if you actually contributed something from time to time. Even once a month, maybe.
