I can honestly see someone saying that over Howe actually. Alex CAN be sloppy at times and of course he can be eclectic with some of his weirder solos. I love his playing, but at least I could see someone taking a snippet of his playing and having a negative impression. Howe is a consummate guitarist - classical, bluegrass, rock, prog, even some of the poppier Asia shit - the guy can do it all.

To say Howe sucks is just dumb. Frank might not like his STYLE, but the fucker can play. I think he sounds kind or choppy and sloppy at times because he normally uses a VERY clean sound with almost no sustain. When playing fast with this sound, it can sound very un-smooth but it is what is is. That's his sound. The dude is extremely versatile. Most of the great guitarists have their own signature sound and Howe definitely has one.

I think if you listen to Asia or some of his stuff with Yes that has more sustain, he has a much smoother playing style. Unique would describe him to a T.
