B) A signed 'Beautiful Mess' advertising poster.
C) A signed Firefest set list.

I'll also throw in some other JSS goodies!!!

We will randomly select three winners to each win a prize on the last day of November.
The winners will be announce right here!

So come on in and say hello...
introduce yourself and tell me how, when and why you love JSS.
If you are new to all this, then feel free to ask any questions, as we have lots very knowledgeable fans out there who just seem to know everything there is to know about the man.

He has great taste in Band members!!!
He's friendly, funny, generous with himself to us and grateful.
He puts his boots on and goes to work without whining.
He moves forward and doesn't look back, with no excuses and no regrets.

Hi Richard!
How cool!

8) 8) 8)

Suzanne R in MD, USA (not far from Sunshine)
First saw Jeff w/Brian May...don't know what year it was.

Got to see him twice last month (Vegas and the Mohegan) and will see w/TSO this weekend (I love it when my travel schedule lands me in a place where he's performing!!).

I am a relative Jeff-newbie compared to many of the wonderful folks here., many of whom I've met this year at Jeff's & GS's performances. I love his voice...the man can sing ANYTHING.
Love the new album. Love the older work as well.
:D :D :D

///oh, wait...we were supposed to gush?!?! Thanks for telling me, Deb!!!

...and the "can sing ANYTHING" is in no way meant to encourage or suggest Country...god forbid!

What a great topic!

I'm Kim, from Fresno California - I work at one of the local hospitals in the Business Office; been at my job for the past 21 years. I'm also an Independent Arbonne Consultant - just started that this past July.

I'm a relative JSS newbie, having had the pleasure to see him once on the Journey/Lep tour when they hit Fresno on 10/11/06. I sent a couple of videos from that show and they were posted on Jeff's website for awhile! :D Prior to that, I had not even heard of Jeff....and that's sad! Why he isn't a household name here in the US is beyond me!

I am catching up on Jeff's past work slowly but surely - but "Beautiful Mess" is in constant rotation in my car! Jeff's stage presence is second to none....I've seriously never been so blown away by someone like I have been with Jeff. I'm so excited to be seeing him again in two weeks with TSO! :D

I'm Michael, a 21-year old college student at the University of Illinois.

I saw JSS three times with Journey on the Def Leppard tour and I have since dived into his extensive back catalog. I am checking here and his website constantly for the latest information, and I think Beautiful Mess stands up nicely against everything he's ever done.

On a college campus in this day and age, good melodic rock and rock in general take a backseat to hip-hop, country and rap. But I'm standing strong and trying to put the music of JSS on as many playlists as possible to get his music out. Plus, he's helping me keep my sanity alongside the (in my opinion) not-very-musical music selections of my fellow students.

I have yet to see JSS anywhere outside of the Journey tour of 2006, but I am hoping he'll bring his solo tour to the midwest ASAP. I hear great things about his live show. 8)

Well I might as well play.. My name is Matt ....and.... Im an alcoholic  ... woops...whoah.... wrong board... wrong intro post.

Seriously, been a JSS fan since the Talisman days.. ever since the Genesis album. Heard that album at a friends house and I was hooked on that voice.

Unlike the hordes of female admirers who will undoubtedly post here...no gushing here ! I think JSS is one ugly sun-ova-gun and dang unattractive looking. After all I like girls .....(and goats.. if they got ribbons on)... :D ... well I digress.

For me its all about the musical excellence. What I do like about JSS is the fact that he was probably the most talented musician in the hard rock world (when he moved in those circles) bar none, and there are few in the MR world - maybe S Lukather- who come close to his talents. I also think JSS could have done as well as Prince did with a "Purple Rain" type album. Equal talent to that guy.

Nice guy too. Got to meet JSS at a gig at JBs in Dudley last year and then at his gig with Tempestt at the same venue - class act.

Rock on JSS . Keep the music coming....

Let's see what more can I say that everyone else hasn't said.. Jeff is such a sweet and humble guy to be around. He took me and my pal in and welcomed us like
we were family when we flew to CA last year. That's right Kim, I think you owe me for a certain phone call. :P

I am a Jeff newbie too. The first time I saw him was in 2006 with Journey. Not only did he turn me into a big fan of his he also got me back into Journey.
Jeff's talent continues to amaze me and every opportunity I get to see of him, he never fails to deliver amazing performances.

The memories of the past couple years and the meeting of some great people have made this ride a wonderful one. I look forward to what more the JSSB has in
store for us in 2009. 8)

Introduce myself... Hello I'm Wendy

How... Seeing Jeff live.

When...Def Leppard at Chula Vista. My dream line up - Def Leppard with Journey! Going to see my all time favorite band (DL) with my favorite from the past - Journey (hadn't seen them since Frontiers with SP). Then I found out Jeff Scott Soto was going to be singing and thought this should be fun as I knew him from Yngwie's albums and wondered what it would be like to hear that killer rock singer sing live with Journey. My hubby who had seen Jeff live with Yngwie said "You are going to love him" I DID! He was the perfect fit. I was blown away. I could not wait to see him again at the Hollywood Bowl. It…was…INCREDIBLE.

So a couple Journey shows, a few JSS Band shows (hands down my favorite shows EVER), Uli Jon Roth, Alter Bridge. Soon TSO. I keep repeating myself, but let me say it again... Jeff lights up EVERY stage he is on!

Why... He is the best vocalist I have ever heard. He is a monster talent, and on top of all that talent is kindness. True kindness. Oh and that warm Soto smile.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for all the work you do for JSS.

My name is Shadow... 8) aka Christina Overthere...
I live in Los Angeles.
I don;t need a reason to "gush" about JSS
:P

I just discovered Jeff this past summer at Palladino's.
It all began marooned in a parking lot
shipwrecked with Deano.

Luckily for me the party came out to the parking lot after the show
I went up to Jeff to say hello & to tell him I missed the show as the doorman would not allow me entry
Jeff truly was very upset about my plight & I can't forget the look on his face when I told him it was as if he saw a ghost.
Not just ooh I am sorry but he seemed devistated for me & later on he just showed himself to be a fun guy eager to share with his fans....
What a night that was.
I was enamored & I don't need prizes to gush about JSS...

JSS is the real deal & after I met him I was on fire & devoured anything JSS I could get my hands on.
It's sure was a memorable summer I will never forget!

I discovered that not only is JSS a real down to earth genuine funny human being but he also is a super talented artist & to put it simply
I love everything he does....I'm sold!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNxUkcDVnpk
Something about JSS's energy
the way he delievers a song
Makes you breathe heavy & be glad to be alive!!!

GUSH

Saw Jeff in Vegas with the Sin City Sinners Jam on my birthday last month...What a night & the best part was
Jeff wished me a Happy Birthday!!!

Looking foward to the Beautiful Mess 2009 Tour!

:P

JSS competition

Postby Fan of Jeff » Thu Nov 06, 2008 10:26 pm

I am Carol from England. I have loved music all my life and enjoy many genres. My all time favourites were the band Queen because they had the ultimate frontman and were never afraid to tackle songs from many different genres of music. It was because of my love of Queen that I became hooked on Jeff and his work.

I discovered Jeff at the Queen Fan club convention in 2003 in Prestatyn Wales. This will mean a lot to anyone who has seen the DVD from that performance (and yes Richard you and Pete were pretty cool too!) I am ashamed to say we missed part of the set as we had never heard of him and somehow assumed he could not top the act we had previously seen that weekend. Missing part of that performance has become one of my biggest regrets in life. I treasure the DVD.

In the words of Jealousy (One of the many songs he performed) OH HOW WRONG CAN YOU BE!!!" Since Freddie I had never seen a front-man more right to perform those songs. As well as his superb performance skills and his ability to connect with the audience he injects such feeling and soul into his interpretation of every song. He should be out there now instead of Paul Rogers but ours is not to reason why. Not content with that amazing performance (Over two and a half hours) he then agreed,at the request of Jackie the organiser, to do an acoustic set the following night despite being tired and somewhat hungover! This set alone eclipsed anything I had ever seen at the convention before. As well as his huge talent he was charming, funny, oozed charisma, spent time socialising and talking to fans (sadly not myself but hopefully one day!) and has a truly genuine smile that could melt a glacier!

Since then I have seen him several more times at the convention both with his great band and the SAS band and he never failed to delight. I have had great pleasure researching all his old work and am amazed at the quality and versatility of it and am now a full blown fan. I am constantly delighted by the music I find that he has worked on. I saw him at Firefest and thought his set was brilliant and brought a new slant into the line up that went down really well. *Beautiful mess" is amazing.

I hope he continues to come to the conventions as he now feels like one of the "Royal family" and the event will be much poorer without him. I also hope he gets out to "sunny England" (His words!) more often as his music is fantastic but live he is a force to be reckoned with.

Once I got started there I couldn't stop but when you are talking about something that good its difficult. I hope one day he achieves the global recognition he so rightly deserves. I promote him at every opportunity I get.

Hi, I'm heFTy.

I hate Jeff because when body mass was being distributed, I got a smaller (in height) version but the same weight as himself - hence I'm kinda pear-shaped.

First saw Jeff in Reading UK 1999 at a Queen Fan Club party, then again when he played the 'Hollywood Walk Of Fame' gig as part of the Queen entourage. Then we got together when my sons' band (A Queen tribute) supported him in his first UK tour - then he (misguidedly) asked me to be his TM and I accepted (again misguided) and we've been together ever since.

I've toured with him as JSSB, Soul SirkUS, Talisman and each time my admiration for his work ethic and his honesty has grown. If I were 15-years younger and independently wealthy and carried a cricket bat, then the world would be his oyster.

First of all, aren't employees exempt from this competition???? :P

Second... I'm Debbie, apparently one of the many "Debbies" on this forum and, until recently, the only Debbie on the main forum (bloody hell!! ). I live in NYC, in one of those other boros that you and your bro, Joey, were born, Jeff. I work in downtown Manhattan as a glorified gopher (i.e., administrative assistant) at a company that is currently being incorrectly reported about in the media and occasionally on that other board  , I am married for 6 years now, and have one child.

I believe my first exposure to Jeff's talents was the Humanimal (self-titled) album. A friend (you know her, Jeff, she's R.C.I.T. ) told me that I should listen to it. Told me it was "really good music, but a terrible name". I agreed that the music was great (used to work out to it, BTW), so began my Jeff-related project research...

Good God, you've got some catalog, Jeff! I told Joe Lynn Turner that between him and you, Jeff, the both of you could make a girl go broke with all the projects/material you've worked on! :? (He was amused and called you his "man", BTW. 8) ) I was amazed at how diverse your career has been! I appreciate a talented artist, who can show the audience how multi-faceted he/she is, while still retaining their individuality and style.

Well, that's me. Oh, and by the way, Richard... I have yet to win anything Soto-related, so take some pity on a poor, East-Coast challenged girl, and include me in your prize drawing, OK... Pretty please?

Thanks!

Sotoism / Soto Zen

Postby Shadowsong » Fri Nov 07, 2008 7:40 am

Soto ism is real!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soto

With 14,700 temples and nearly seven million adherents (in 1989) Sōtō is the largest Zen sect in Japan, vastly surpassing Rinzai and Ōbaku. In Japanese history, Soto gained ground among provincial rulers and ordinary people, while Rinzai won the support of the central samurai government.

Sōtō is found both in Japan and in the West, and presents shikantaza meditation as the essential practice. As Dogen-zenji teaches it, in shikantaza the body/mind is established in open, alert, balanced yogic posture, and the habitual movements of impulsive consciousness are allowed to subside of themselves. This is possible only if effort and attitude are not fractured between what is narrowly understood as "practice", and what is erroneously believed to be "enlightenment". For Dogen, practice and awakening are inseparable, and shikantaza is nothing less than the transformative embodiment of this truth.

Competition

Hi I am Ronda and I live in the mid-west and I am a Medical Laboratory Manager. I first heard of Jeff when he and Neal Schon created Soul Sirkus. I loved that hard rockin group and they were the perfect mix of guitar and vocals. I then started to look into Jeff's other recordings and found out how much he had out there and how much I liked the mix of sounds. I found out that he was the voice of old Yngwie and RockStar and I found I loved Talisman. I meet Jeff in Chicago in a meet and greet after the Soul Sirkus show and feel in love with him. I have never met a more gracious and down to earth artist. He was just a joy to talk to and he signed everything that anyone handed him. He was just glad to talk to every fan and posed for every picture when we all knew he had to be tired he just hung out with all of us. Then he joined Journey and I followed all of that and got to hear him multiple times with Journey. I was so disappointed that Journey kicked him but after hearing Beautiful Mess I guess it all worked out for the best. He is just too talented to be boxed in by a group. I just wish he could come to the mid west for a show again. It has been since the Melodic Rock show since I have seen him in his element live on stage.

Count me in! 8)

I'm Sara from the bay area in CA.

Like many, I got my first JSS exposure during the Journey/DL tour. I was actually disappointed at first because I was really wanted to see Steve Augeri. But I was determined to enjoy this concert so I went to Jeff's website and listened to some Soul Sirkus sound clips... not bad... but can he sing Journey?

Went to the concert at the Shoreline in MV.
HECK YEAH Jeff can sing Journey!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were sitting in the last row before the grass seats and yet Jeff's energy made us feel like we had VIP tickets. And he sounded freakin' amazing! If he had trouble that night or missed a note or whatever, I couldn't tell. To me he sounded perfect.

I thought Journey would be silly not to make him their new lead singer (we all know how that one turned out).

I went on to by every solo album I could get my hands on. I actually drove around to every record store I knew of until I found "Lost in Translation" because I didn't want to wait for it to come in the mail. I needed a JSS fix now!

Then one day I was doing my monthly check of the pubs and nightclubs that play classic rock in the area and found Jeff's picture at the Little Fox in Redwood City. I just about stopped breathing! The Little Fox is such an intimate venue and the idea of seeing an actual rock star on that stage, possibly meeting him, was overwhelming.

Bought my ticket as soon as I got my paycheck.

To this day that concert is the best I've ever seen. His passion, talent, energy, the camaraderie he shared with his bandmates (and oh by the way, his charm and good looks 8) ) impressed me so much that he actually moved above Journey in my mind.

And he was one of the nicest performers I'd ever met. He expressed genuine appreciation for his fans and sadly that's not something you see much of anymore. Classy!

And from then on I was hooked. :)

And by the way... 10 more days until TSO in SJ!!!!!!!!

Hey all, I am Jim from Indy.

I had heard of Talisman, and knew who Jeff was, but what really got me sold on him was Soul Sirkus. After hearing World Play I was floored, and went back and found more about Talisman, Eyes, and so on. My wife was a casual fan of his before I talked her into going to MRFest, but after seeing him live, she was HOOKED(on more than just his music, d@mn you Jeff and your good looks! lol). Hands down JSS is the most under-rated front man in rock. And now, we have Beautiful Mess. He may have not made this CD for his "hard rock fans" but luckily I love songs with a funky groove and soul to them, and this release ROCKS.

I've been around here for years, just don't have time to post frequently, but I need to spend more time here, especially in this Forum.

Hi, I'm Cindi. I live in Southern California and I'm a concert junkie. :P I love Styx, Kenny Loggins, REO, Foreigner, Garth Brooks, Nelson...

I was first introduced to Jeff by my friend Todd. He gave me his copy of World Play to listen to, and I read some of Jeff's blogs from the SS tour. Jeff seemed cool! Then suddenly Jeff is in Journey, and I really started paying attention! I watched Live At The Gods & the Queen DVD. Oh my! Finally I had a reason to go see Journey again. 8) Ooops that didn't work, I was already going to see Styx in Northern Cal the weekend they played Irvine. Then they announced Glen Helen(five minutes from my house) , and I had fan club tickets for Kenny Loggins in Palm Desert.

Then, Deb is heading down to California for a weekend. It happens to be the NAMM weekend. I hear that Jeff is playing Loffler's. I'm planning to suprise Deb, and take her to see JSS. She finds out he's playing, and blows her surprise. OMG Jeff was awesome live, Jeff rocked the place! We met Jeff, Gary, Howie, CrazyDeb, Dean and Lu, and a bunch more that night. 8)

Along with the S. Cal shows, Deb and I, have been to N. Cal, Southbend and CT to see Jeff! I can't wait to see what Jeff has in store for us in 2009!

Now at concerts, I spend my time JSS converting. :P Just ask the poor chicks behind me at Foreigner! :P
