Def Leppard to tour with Poison in 2009

Postby weatherman90 » Wed Jan 14, 2009 2:14 pm

Someone else started a 2009 tour thread but I thought that this news warranted a title to attract attention.

I just posted on this over at my blog, link: http://melodicrockconcerts.blogspot.com/2009/01/def-leppard-to-tour-withpoison.html

I can't say I'm excited about it. It's not that I'm not excited about Def Leppard touring, we already knew that that was going to happen. It's my goal to catch 2 or 3 Leppard shows this year.

Anyway, I saw Poison in July and I they put on a great show, there's no denying it. There are only a couple reasons why I'm not enthusiastic about the pairing:

1. I'd rather see Def Leppard tour on their own or with a more low profile opener so that they could retain the spotlight
2. I'm concerned about inflated ticket prices

I'm sure there are die-hard Poison fans who aren't excited for the same exact reasons as me.

well i think its a good pairing if it happens. I am surprised Mr. Ego (joe elliott) would go out with a "hair " band....

but if ticket prices are high , it will be because of def leppard, not poison...poison has always kept their prices very low and had 2-3 good bands.....

i just wish both bands play at least 1.5 hours...or more..and wish both bands would mix up their set list...both bands stay with the same set list year after year.....i know they both have alot of hits, and they can play them...but i think its time to mix in more stuff...both bands have toured every year for the past 5...

I really wanted them to tour with Whitesnake, I was hoping it would be them. Ah well... I have Poison's Greatest hits so I think I'll enjoy their set. I'm nervous about the ticket situation, too :? And yes they need to switch up the setlist

I like both Def Leppard and Poison, having seen them both several times. I first saw Def Leppard during the PYROMANIA Tour, but both band need to switch up their respective setlists, and not play the same songs over and over....

I'm with you! Whitesnake and Def Leppard touring together would have been awesome. I've never seen Whitesnake but I'm a big fan and what's better than seeing two of your favorite bands in one show!

Joe Elliott agreed to the tour in the hopes that Rikki Rockett won't kick his ass.

In fact, Joe is going to change the lyrics to "Rocket"...it will go something like this:

Rockett! Ye-ah! I'm sucking Rikki off! Rockett! Ye-ah!

Well, here's how I see it:

Joe shoots his mouth off once again, putting down other bands, which he does so well. You see, Joe is bitter. He realizes that Def Leppard is just a nostalgic act. He knows that Steve Clark WAS the band and when Steve died, so did the band. Joe rode Steve's coat tails and was at the top of the rock world. He's lost all that and wishes he had it back. So, what does he do?

Every chance he gets, he likes to knock other bands because in his mind, this puts him above them. He wants Def Leppard to be on top but he knows they are washed up so the only way he can keep them on top is to put down everyone else. He constantly shoots his mouth off but this time it backfired.

Rikki Rockett gets pissed off and openly challenges Joe to a fight. Joe realizes that getting his ass kicked by a makeup wearing pansy like Rikki Rockett won't be good for his career. 2 things happen from this:

1) Joe shuts his mouth about Poison.
2) Next thing you know, Def Leppard is rumored to be touring with Poison, one of the bands Joe loves to put down.

So what exactly happened here? I think it's quite obvious. Joe calls Rikki, apologizes profusely, begs him not to stomp his ass and also begs Poison to go on tour with them.

It's a win-win situation. Joe keeps his teeth and he finds yet another band to carry Def Leppard on tour!

By the way Voyager....nice avatar! She's hot!

I know what Leppard have been playing over the past few tours but I've never seen Poison live before... for anyone who has, what's a typical setlist for them?

I would expect 4 songs from the "Big 3" albums (Cat Dragged In, Open Up and Say Ahhh, Flesh & Blood), maybe a cover songs from the their covers album. I haven't heard of them playing a song that they wrote after 1990 in a very long time.

Fire and Ice
Theater of the Soul

The only two listenable Poison songs since 1988.

Is this tour just a US tour, or will it spread across Europe?

It will spread faster than Bret Michaels' crabs.

Can anyone post the Def Leppard link or website that tells city, date and if there are any tickets available for the shows? Thanks. I went through this a few weeks ago with the AC/DC tour. Will greatly appreciate help again on this.

I'm pretty sure they're playing at Nissan Pavilion on July 12. I saw Poison last summer and Bret Michaels solo a few months ago. Both shows were good, but I prefer the Poison show (even though I was 6" from the BMB stage and in the lawn for Poison). I've got a new respect for CC Deville after seeing him live.

I saw DL when they toured with Journey in 2006, and thought they put on a great show. Joe Elliot's age is definitely showing though... :(

Me & my girlfriends may wind up going to one of these shows this summer. Definitely a 'girls night out' kind of event. 8)

I know. I'm just not 100% sure I'm gonna go. My friend wants to get one of the packages, and I definitely don't see shelling out that kinda moolah for it. Are you going??

Being in SoCal, I want to go to the one in Irvine August 30. I just found out Foreigner is playing the night before at Morongo Casino. I can't do both. I'll probably go with Leppard on this one.

Hmmm... Foreigner played at our county fair last year. I think between the two, I'd go with Leppard as well. (I saw Foreigner when they opened for Journey back in the '90s with SA - it was the one & only time I saw Journey with SA. Foreigner was really good!)

The last time I saw Foreigner was at JFK in 1981. They, Journey and George Thorogood were opening for the Stones at the start of the Tattoo You tour. It's been a while but Def Leppard, for better or worse is pretty much the "must see" show for me.
