i think Pete Willis and Phil Collen would be a great combo, but rumour has it that Pete doesn't play much anymore.
I know I'm responding to an old thread but I'm a Pete Willis fan...or more accurately, I'm a fan of the Clark/Willis era of Def Leppard. High-n-Dry was their masterpiece! That album was so full of energy it was unbelievable! In-your-face HARD ROCKING guitars and Joe's screaming lyrics really got the adrenaline pumping....man, those were the days!
The soft, pop, lovesick crap they put out these days in just an embarrassment to the name of Def Leppard. Losing Pete really sucked because a lot of the harder stuff came from him but I understand their reasoning for letting him go (no pun intended.) If you are an asshole drunk, either shape up or ship out, and that's what happened, he screwed himself out of the band.
I often wonder what a Clark/Willis version of the band would be like today? Pyromania was the start of the "softening up" of their sound but I seriously doubt they would've turned into the pansies that Def Leppard is today if Clark/Willis were still around.
Vivian Campbell's contributions are pretty much worthless in my opinion. The only thing he does well is play Steve Clark's parts. His creative input is crap.
Joe's singing these days is a perfect example of what happens when a male gets his testicles cut off.
Before people say "a band has to keep evolving" I say...fine...but why does "evolving" mean "getting softer" in Def Leppard's case? Look at AC/DC, they've NEVER changed their sound and yet their latest album is a multi-million dollar seller! There's a reason for that, you know what you're getting with an AC/DC album, straight out, hard rock-n-roll! No softening their sound and they are doing just fine these days!
