Why this tour won't work....

Postby Toph » Tue Oct 19, 2010 2:00 am

As much as this is for the die hards, this tour just won't work for the general masses. Think about it, now they are down to only playing 2 of their biggest 8 songs (counting TMTOMH in the encore) with Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Grand Illusion, and FY thrown in for good measure. That will be all the generic classic rock listener will know. 6 songs that I know if I am a generic classic rock fan.

If I hear Styx is in town and I pcik up the Greatest Hits album in anticipation of the show and expect to hear those songs and then after I pay my $50 and I leave the show, I will think to myself, what didn't I hear? And the list is VERY long and as a casual fan of Styx who doesn't know what song is on what album and wouldn't know Pieces of Eight from Edge of the Century, I'm pissed....

- Lady
- Babe
- Best of Times
- Mr. Roboto
- Show Me The Way
- Don't Let It End
- Rockin The Paradise
- Suite Madame Blue
- Crystal Ball
- Lorelei

uh.......that's why it's being advertised as a show where they are playing two specific albums. being pissed about those missing songs would be like going to see roger waters do the wall and wonder why he didnt play shine on you crazy diamond.

people should pay attention to what the tour is promoting before buying a ticket.

It's called the grand illusion/pieces of eight tour for a reason toph. I was expecting the third set to include more songs as well but that's what happens. I still think the 20 minute intermission is pointless. 10 is fine. You should go see this show if it's in your area toph.

I think the 20 min intermission is kinda nice, plus I think the band probably enjoys resting their vocals for a little bit, as this tour I think is a little more demanding on vocals.

To each their own yogi. They should play both albums, have a 10 minute intermission then play 5-6 more songs then everyone goes home happy.

Well, Rush has had an intermission since '97 and they play closer to 2.5 - 3 hours when all is said and done.

On this tour where they did the entirety of Moving Pictures (granted it's only one album), they had the 1st set of songs, their intermission, kicked off the next set with MP, and then did a few more songs ... and THEN an encore.

What would have been nice for Styx is to do an album + a few songs, 15 - 20 minute intermission, 2nd album + a few songs, then an encore. Considering both GI and Po8 are both under 45 minutes each, it's not a stretch to add one or two more songs per set (making it around 50 minutes) and do a one or two song encore.

That's not what we're getting, and I'll wait to pass final judgement when I see it. Maybe I won't care. I think I will.

Who bitches about an intermission?? 20 minutes who cares? Is that making you late for bunko?? Many of you have turned into the old couger who lived down the block who would gripe about anything.

Who cares if Styx takes a 20 minute intermission. Maybe JY or Chuck has to change their diaper and this is the most convient time to do it. Quit your damn complaining!!

Is the music too loud??? Maybe they can turn it down some!!

Never heard of it happening with Iron Maiden, Rush, etc.
