Radio Ad for Journey...with Steve yet again...

Postby swataz » Tue Jul 31, 2012 1:27 am

I know this has been beaten to death in the past, but I heard a local radio ad on WBAB 102.3 on Long Island for the upcoming Journey show.

There is a certain lack of truth in advertising when the vocalist who hasn't sung a live performance note for the band in 26 years is the sample you give the listening public. By now they really should use Arnel samples and ONLY Arnel samples.

Any bands that do this or allow their immediate management to promote them this way should be shot.

But some of that stuff is probably beyond their control.

Yeah, I hear promos advertized for real old bands that are still around and they play bits of songs in the ads that were recordings from 20, 30, and sometimes 40 years ago. If they are using SP for Journey ads now, that's pathetic.

I have heard public service commercials on the radio featuring Journey w/ Steve Augeri. Even during the SA era, many local stations played concert promos featuring Perry. Same deal with Foreigner and Styx. Just the way it is.

How do you know they're not? If they play from the re-records AP is almost a carbon copy, 'cept for some minor nuances.

Well I can tell the difference right away when it comes to SP or AP's voice. While AP does sound very much like SP, AP has a younger boyish voice now compared to SP's voice twenty plus years ago.

There is a big difference and it's not so much the vocals but the music. Cain did the work on the re-records and the instrumentation comes off totally different than the originals, especially the keys.

+1 ...it's the vox too, though, for me. Those minor nuances are huge.
