Steve Perry's earnest speech displayed his gratefulness for being able to perform with his fellow bandmates. He traced the bands history, including his thanks to Herbie Herberts, who he says he wouldn't be here tonight if it weren't for him. "There was one instrument that was flying above the entire city of Los Angeles," Perry recalls. "The magic fingers of Neal Schon's guitar."

Perry couldn't finish his speech without giving thanks to the "tireless love and consistent devotion" of Journey's very vocal fans, who cheered throughout.

But will he perform with Journey? The audience waits.

Band on stage right now. Separate Ways. No Perry.

Perry gave a nice shout out to Arnel in his speech, said he loves him.

Does anyone know anything yet about what the singer from Train said about Journey in his introduction?

Lights now.

Dunbar and Rolie playing on this one. Neal dedicates song to Perry.

Arnel's voice is ROUGH. He is struggling.

Of the 3 songs, Lights is the slow ballad of the bunch. Not good to hear he's struggling on that.

10:20 p.m. Journey's second song of the night is 1978's Lights. Guitarist Neal Schon asked the crowd to shine their cell phones throughout the performance in honor of Steve Perry. Perry is still absent from the performance stage

Someone was periscoping and I was able to see most of it live. I'm sure Arnel has a serious case of nerves as he met Steve backstage. I'm amazed he has it together enough to sing at all.

Holy shit. I cried through the whole thing.

Last Journey concert was a few days ago. Sounded solid here. Wonder what happened.

Maybe he caught the crud.

He's been having a lot of off nights the last year or two.
He's 49. Dudes with high voices don't keep them forever.

I didn't find the live feed until Perry was doing his speech. Didn't hear him.

I suspect they were tuned down as well.

Maybe. He's been in the band for a decade and has song in front of other notable artists.

Been a long road for those guys... you too.

So many people (me included) have Journey as their "growing up" music... my high school years would not have been the same without them.

Glad to see them recognized.

If you noticed, the songs Journey did were all first songs from their albums. I always thought they should do a concert of "first songs."

1. Of A Lifetime
2. On A Saturday Nite
3. Space Man
4. Lights
5. Majestic/Too Late
6. Any Way You Want It
7. Don't Stop Believin'
8. Separate Ways
9. Girl Can't Help It
10. Message Of Love
11. Higher Place
12. Faith In The Heartland
13. Never Walk Away
14. City Of Hope
15. First Song Off Their Next Album!

That's actually a really good set list. You forgot State of Grace from Red 13. I know it's an EP, but still...

Touching to see the photos of Arnel and Steve together. Can't wait to hear the speech. Too bad Perry couldn't at least perform Lights.

Per a friend who saw things through a feed, Cain briefly mentioned Augeri and Castronovo but that was the only mention of them during the speeches.
