Tom Petty was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after he was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

EMTs rushed to his Malibu home and were able to get a pulse. He was rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and our sources say he was put on life support.

Petty's condition is unknown but was critical from the moment he was found.

According to TMZ:

1:35 PM PT -- Sources tell us at 10:30 Monday morning a chaplain was called to Tom's hospital room. We're told the family has a do not resuscitate order on Tom. The singer is not expected to live throughout the day, but he's still clinging to life. A report that the LAPD confirmed the singer's death is inaccurate -- the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. handled the emergency.

A so sad day all around. And now Tom Petty dying at such a young age.
Load of talent, really got into the Willburies.
But this is one of my favorite songs of all time

His music was so diverse, I think people labeled him as a "southern rocker" or "heartland rock" but this guy did it all.
One of the few rockers that outlasted grunge.

American Girl has been my favorite tune since I first heard it when I was about 16.... Damn the Torpedoes my favorite album...

For some of us born in the 60's ( a bit late for the Beatles), Petty was our "Lennon"...

man this sucks.

A great talent. Became a fan with the Southern Accents CD. Went out and bought all his older stuff, and followed him ever since.

Although he's incredibly famous and has tons of hits, I would say he's still somewhat unappreciated in how prolific he really was. The guy literally churned out hits. I saw him in June on this tour -- which rocked -- and despite playing more than 2 hours of hits with basically zero filler, I was able to rattle off the top of my head 12 to 15 more GREAT songs/hits that they didn't have time to play. And that doesn't even get into Mudcrutch, Wilburys, etc. An absolute top five legend. Very glad I got to see his last tour.

So now reports are claiming he is not dead but in the hospital on life support? No official word from Petty's family or management.

Spot on Matt. Tom has so many good songs that only got heard by true fans and not the radio market. Southern Accents, as Abitiman said above, was a classic song and was truly great live, but not many know it. His greatest hits album doesn't do his catalog justice. The Wildflowers album alone is damn near a greatest hits album.

Tom Petty's Autopsy: Singer Died From Massive Accidental Drug Overdose

TMZJanuary 19, 2018

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/tom ... ll-brknews

Tom Petty‘s autopsy results are in, and they show the singer died from an accidental drug overdose as a result of taking a variety of medications.

The L.A. County Coroner says a number of Tom’s organs failed due to “mixed drug toxicity.”

The autopsy report says when paramedics arrived he was in full cardiac arrest, but CPR revived him — but on the way to the hospital he lost pulse for 20 minutes. He went into cardiac arrest a second time in the hospital and died 21 hours after being admitted.

Tom’s autopsy report shows the singer was on several pain meds, including Fentanyl patches, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl.  The reason doctors prescribed the meds was because of a number of medical problems, including emphysema, knee problems and a fractured hip.

The family says the linchpin to Tom’s demise was the fractured hip.  He insisted on touring for 53 concert dates with the condition, which worsened over time and caused him to take the meds. On the date he died he was told the hip had graduated to a full-on break that made the pain unbearable and may have caused the overuse of meds.

The autopsy says Petty suffered from coronary artery atherosclerosis.

As we reported … Tom’s official death certificate left his cause of death as “deferred,” leaving it as a mystery until now.
We broke the story … Tom went into full cardiac arrest before being taken to a hospital in L.A. He eventually died when his family took him off life support.

Fentanyl was also linked to the deaths of Prince and Lil Peep.

Tom was 66.

Someone needs to cover Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin On?", but adjust the lyrics to focus on the prescribed meds over-dose problem. Maybe even throw in a line or two relating to Prince or Petty.

I could hear a bluesy Schon guitar and a soulful Perry voice teaming up for this.
(Maybe some Rolie or Santana too!)

 :?: :D
