He's playing a county fair this summer near me. I don't know that I'll go because when I saw he was listed as a performer, my first thought was, "Is he still using backing tapes?"

Since SA's touring on his own terms and not being chewed up by the Journey meat grinder, I assume you're safe.

Have seen him seen him several times since he hasn't been in journey.
I think only one show he sounded a bit rough
He sounded rough in woodstock however his voice smoothed out
He was awesome in west Springfield
He does some deeper cuts and covers

Hmm. Define "back".
It's better than his last Journey days, but it's not "back" by any stretch of the imagination.
However, it's enough to get by and dude's gotta work, to more power to him.

He sings a different way than he used to just in delivery.. No doubt so he can continue to sing. He's also 10 years older than he was at the end of the J tenure, 20 since he began w/J. I've seen him a couple times, and I've never been disappointed. Is he as good as we was 15-20 years ago prior to the vocal issues, no. Will you go and enjoy, yes! He is not using backing tapes. That was J thing only.
