Couldn't have said what I feel about SP's return half as well as this. I lost my Dad in June, Steves's return has given me a much needed boost. What an unexpected joy it has brought to my life.

In an interview years back, Steve talked about recording with the late Sam Cooke the same way that Natalie Cole recorded with her late father. Now that he is recording again, will he revisit that idea? Would we even be able to tell them apart?

I wonder if this song inspired Jon's father when he told him Dont Stop Believin' and stay in the music business.
And yes, very sad about Olivia, I pray she'll beat it again.

Well....here we are. After a quarter century of Forever....The Voice has finally returned. If you were a Steve Perry/Journey fan at any point of your existence and expected anything more than what this almost 70 year old recluse has produced...then you're nuts! No more high-end? So what? Too raspy and strained? So what? Lyrics a tiny bit cheesy? So f*cking what? This is Steve Perry, man. And unknown entity for the last 25 years who was rarely seen and people would salivate to hear him just sing a sentence if he would have gifted us that.....and what do we get? A full-blown social media takeover, a single and video release, an interview tour and a 15 song CD release. Are you f*cking kidding me!? This is what all of us have dreamed of for decades!
Thank You.
Everyone is entitled to their feelings, and TBH, this is what I expected from Perry following his loss of Miss.Nash, his loss of Journey, his own issues, etc.
Maybe if we were to write songs and record an album that represented US as we are today, there would be a couple of "upbeat songs", but most of them would reflect where we are TODAY, looking BACK at the Past telling OUR story.
Journey with Perry told their Story in the 70's and 80's.
Perry is telling his story, as he is NOW.
It's reflective and somber at times, sometimes happy, but mostly reflective.
Maybe that's why this album resonates with me.
I'm not 17 or 25.
I'm 62...So I dig where this music is coming from.
It hit my heart.
You can sit and try to shoot holes in whatever you want to about The Return....but it's going to fall on deaf ears. The man has finally put his voice to record again and it's glorious. The tone, the inflections, the emotion....nothing is missing. He's not 30 anymore, able to pull off vocal acrobatics that no other male vocalist before AND since have been able to do....no, he's not going to run around a stage and scream Anyway You Want It in the same key as 1980...but who cares!!??
Maybe we'll get to see him play a little bit more comfortably on a stage somewhere then he did with the Eeels.... and play his own music and some Trial By Fire stuff, his voice sounds like it's EASILY capable of handling those tunes. People would sell their kids to hear him sing Oh Sherrie again, live....Foolish Heart? You Better Wait? Missing You? When You Love A Woman? Lights? (he sounded pretty good singing that with the Eels) His new sh*t? Man, you better thank the music gods that we have this chance to hear a vocal Icon in 2018. Think about the current climate of music...can we even call it music?
There's very few exceptions of real vocalists out there today but one of the all-time greats just came back and dropped a bomb on his fans? And there's people nit-picking? Get off the bus and walk. We're here for this, Steve. You won't see this but maybe someone in your marketing group will. Thank that man. I've loved his voice since I was a 8 year old in 1978 and heard Lights for the first time on huge speakers in my parents living room. I've been hooked ever since. DEPARTURE, CAPTURED, EVOLUTION, everything sounded better than what was there before!
I played ESCAPE like a mental patient, over and over again. Every song consumed me! FRONTIERS was my 13 year old soundtrack to life! I was the nerd in high school that still loved Journey more than everything else going on in the music world at the time. Not hair metal, not anything else.....I held on after Raised on Radio came out in 86 and kept waiting and waiting and waiting.....and then.....some 8 years later, I was driving my little car around, radio playing....and I heard the first notes of You Better Wait and almost crashed. He was back after what seemed like forever.
Then it all came together again when I saw him live on the FTLOSM tour and he sounded amazing. He didn't sound like the guy I heard in 84 on the Frontiers tour or the guy in 87 on the ROR tour but damn, he still sounded amazing.
And then he came back to Journey....a great album they made together. Trial By Fire was Journey, grown up. I loved it. There was talk of a tour.....and then the problems came to be and Steve....poof....vanished. For two decades I couldn't bear to go to a Journey concert, not having The Voice singing those anthems. Augeri, Soto, Pineda...all great vocalists....but it wasn't the original issue.
Don't play yourselves. I'm here to tell you, we have been blessed with this last hurrah in 2018. But guess what? Maybe he doesn't run away again. Maybe he stays in the public eye? Maybe he plays some shows? Maybe he sings on Carpool Karaoke? Maybe he finds his way onto Dancing With The Stars, singing to a contestants routine? Maybe he has a Vegas residency? Hit's the late-show circuit? Who knows? But it's exciting to think about it all, isn't it?
Thank you Steve, for giving us one more fliker of hope, in the abyss that is our current state of the world. I never gave up hope that you'd comeback. When you sang background for David Pack, or on I Wish You Were Mine or just teased us with the Eeels....I kept hoping for a real return....and here it is.
A lifelong fan and admirer....and thank you for the inspiration your voice and your music has brought to me. When I lost my dad in 2005, the one song I kept playing over and over was Trial By Fire.....it all made sense to me that it was just another trial by fire. I too, was an only child and it hurt like a motherf*cker. But I had a brand new son, just 3 months old when I lost my dad and while my dad turned me on to Journey as a boy....I've done the same with mine. Whenever my son hears a Journey/Steve song..he says "you always know a Journey song when you hear THAT voice".....damn right you do!
Welcome home, man.....enjoy the love and stay awhile . We all truly missed your talent and your heart. I hope to see you again on a stage someday, live and in living color but I'm infinitely grateful to have heard you again in your element.
Enjoy this moment....you deserve to after all this time.
