Would it be wrong to have a liking to a lot of Cher stuff. I quite like the stuff she done in the late 80's.

Ambeon (the only Ayreon I like; he really shouldn't have split with Vengeance)
Baby Animals or Suze De Marchi's solo record
Jennifer Batten's Tribal Rage
Jennifer Batten

1. Leaving Vengeance is the best thing Arjen Lucassen could have done. Ayreon is great and keeps getting better.....and Star One was outstanding.
2.Suze DeMarchi is my fave female vocalist....hands down.
3.Jennifer Batten is the greatest female rock guitarist ever.

1. Thank god for differing opinions. I don't think Iron Anthony is all that sincere about his music. I've known him since Mover and he was always into hard rock like Vengeance (just a his first 'big' band Bodine; a dutch outfit that you like if you're into sound eighties rock/metal). Now he's into Sympho style, flaunting all his buddies to increase sales??? Sorry. I'll leave my rant at this.

This could be a whole new discussion. Because people play different music doesn't necessarily mean that their musical style has changed. Vai will be Vai whether he's playing jazz or rock. I listen to DT and Shadow Gallery; like it but I don't see them creeping into my music.Taliwakker wrote:...

People's music styles and tastes change and as a muso you like to improve and try new things. I think Arjen probably was hugely affected by the new wave of progressive metal that was headed by the likes of Dream Theater and Threshold in the early 90's.....it happened to a lot of guitarists....Before i heard DT i was right into Sabbath, Maiden,Ozzy,Purple,Van Halen and played music along those influential lines.......parts of that stuff will always be in my playing/writing but when something new comes along and captures your attention and introduces new possibilties its hard not to follow that path of discovery......at the moment i'm just a huge Holdsworth freak and i've noticed all these elements of fusion sneaking into my playing.......its not being insencere....
In all fairness I guess I would too. And extra sales doesn't hurt!Taliwakker wrote:...
As for flaunting his buddies to increase music sales......if i could get half of those people to play/sing on my album i would too.... a lot of those guys contribute to Ayreon because they like the concepts and music that Arjen is creating......i'm drooling at some of the guys singing on the upcoming cd.
Labrie,Devin Townsend, Devon Graves, Mikael Arkefeldt.......awesome.
