So many. Where do I start?

Amy Lee (Evanescence) (IMO, one of the best voices in nu-breed today, and there aren't very many good voices in the genre).
Tarja Turanen (Nightwish)
Anette Anderson (Shiva)
Lana Lane
Sabine Edalsbacher (Edenbridge)

There are many honerable mentions, including Chrissy Steele, Darby Mills (Headpins), all of Phantom Blue, Vixen, Debbie Davis (Witness), Aina, Fiona Flanagan, Sandi Saraya, Ann Wilson, all the members of Girlschool and Poison Dollys, Pamme (Haven), Doro Pesch, Lita Ford, and...dunno, I think I've mentioned a good chunk of them.

There are way too many girls that I like. Where to draw the line? I drew it at 'album'-orientation or history-wise, so no pop princesses which are to be found in my collection as well. So I probably overlooked quite a few when selecting who to put in the list.

Lee Aaron
Alyson Avenue
Ambeon (the only Ayreon I like; he really shouldn't have split with Vengeance)
Baby Animals or Suze De Marchi's solo record
Jennifer Batten's Tribal Rage
Jennifer Batten
Blackmore's Night (only in this list because of Blackmore since there is not much of a rock in it)
Blondie
Meredith Brooks
Sam Brown
The Corrs
The Cranberries
Sheryl Crow
Shannon Curfman
Dalbello
Taylor Dayne
The Donnas
Doro
Fiona
Lita Ford
Garbage
Guano Apes
Heart
The Immigrants (again with Jennifer Batten)
Joan Jett
Sass Jordan
Jaime Kyle
Lana Lane
Alanis Morisette
Alannah Myles
Nexx
Phantom Blue
Private Life
Suzi Quatro (the grandmother of 'em all)
Republica
The Runaways
Sahara Hotnights
Saraya
The Shaggs (the best band ever according to Frank Zappa )
Starship
T'Pau
Texas
Vixen
Warlock
Nancy Wilson

[edit]
I knew I forgot something:
Tracy Hitchings - sympho girl who ended up as the singer for Landmarq

I've never been a big fan of female singers, so a top 5 would probably include my whole collection lol. But those I do have are:

Horse
All About Eve
Judie Tzuke
Alanis Morissette
T'Pau
Texas
Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs

(ok 7 lol)

My top 5 have most probably been mentioned,

Lee Aaron
Lita Ford
Joan Jett
Fiona
Doro Pesch

Would it be wrong to have a liking to a lot of Cher stuff. I quite like the stuff she done in the late 80's.

I don't think it would be wrong. Heart Of Stone was a great AOR/rock album.

1. Leaving Vengeance is the best thing Arjen Lucassen could have done. Ayreon is great and keeps getting better.....and Star One was outstanding.

2.Suze DeMarchi is my fave female vocalist....hands down.

3.Jennifer Batten is the greatest female rock guitarist ever.

1. Thank god for differing opinions. I don't think Iron Anthony is all that sincere about his music. I've known him since Mover and he was always into hard rock like Vengeance (just a his first 'big' band Bodine; a dutch outfit that you like if you're into sound eighties rock/metal). Now he's into Sympho style, flaunting all his buddies to increase sales??? Sorry. I'll leave my rant at this.

2. No comment.

3. Do you know the Immigrants? I heard of her from Guitar Player. She was in Mike Varney's Spotlight column as the first girl who graduated from G.I.T. and was in a band called 'Purl' at the time. Purl did what they described themselves as nuclear bebop. Wonder what that sounds like?

I used to play 80's rock metal too.....since about 1995 my playing has changed to a more progressive style....is it any less sincere?
People's music styles and tastes change and as a muso you like to improve and try new things. I think Arjen probably was hugely affected by the new wave of progressive metal that was headed by the likes of Dream Theater and Threshold in the early 90's.....it happened to a lot of guitarists....Before i heard DT i was right into Sabbath, Maiden,Ozzy,Purple,Van Halen and played music along those influential lines.......parts of that stuff will always be in my playing/writing but when something new comes along and captures your attention and introduces new possibilties its hard not to follow that path of discovery......at the moment i'm just a huge Holdsworth freak and i've noticed all these elements of fusion sneaking into my playing.......its not being insencere....

As for flaunting his buddies to increase music sales......if i could get half of those people to play/sing on my album i would too.... a lot of those guys contribute to Ayreon because they like the concepts and music that Arjen is creating......i'm drooling at some of the guys singing on the upcoming cd.
Labrie,Devin Townsend, Devon Graves, Mikael Arkefeldt.......awesome.

Sorry to blab on Bobbi...........Ayreon and Star One are one of my fave bands/projects....especially Star One.

I don't know, I don't know your playing as well as I do his. Blackmore's music has done a 180 as well. But you still hear Blackmore in Blackmore's Night as well as in Purple or Rainbow. When Eric Johnson is rocking or 'bluesing' or whatever you still hear it's Johnson. Somehow I don't hear Lucassen anymore.

This could be a whole new discussion. Because people play different music doesn't necessarily mean that their musical style has changed. Vai will be Vai whether he's playing jazz or rock. I listen to DT and Shadow Gallery; like it but I don't see them creeping into my music.

I thought of another thing that might explain my aversion, which is the dreaded media. Now that rock is becoming fashionable again, thanks to The Darkness, the tv ads for cheap compilations are starting as well; selling comps with all old and established acts like Van Halen or Boston and thrown in as well is The Darkness! Incomparable in my view. The same stunt was pulled when the 'Migrator' album by Ayreon was launched. It was hip to be into sympho, so Ayreon was paired with Yes and The Buggles and ... But to me that's incomparable as well. This will also help in associating Ayreon with Kerching instead of integrity.

Bottom line: if you like it, have fun with it! I won't take away the pleasure of music!

In all fairness I guess I would too. And extra sales doesn't hurt!

She has been mentioned, numerous times, but I'm afraid she sits in the same boat as Lita Ford for me. A couple of good songs but not a great singer.
