Augeri's best vocal performance (with Journey).

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Thu Feb 24, 2005 3:26 pm

I think Augeri's most outstanding vocal performances can be found on "Walking Away from the Edge" & "The Time". "Walking Away from the Edge" & "The Time" aren't typically dated 80's sounding Journey songs (as most of the Cain-era has produced) this can largely be attributed to a less heavy emphasis on synthesizer.

And I think because of this, because the songs are slightly removed from what we've come to expect from typical-sounding Journey, Steve's vocals really, perhaps for the first time, are allowed to stand on their own merits. His voice lends itself nicely to the blues and "The Time" has a bluesy edge to it that I think fits his voice to perfection. I'd like to see more songs like that one in Journey's future.

So, what songs do you think display the best of what Augeri's got?

Off the top of my head, I can not think of my favorite, there are several, I really like. But one that I always crank up is Remember Me. I'll get back on my favorite-ERIC

Great question...

Off the topic a bit...but

There are times when Augeri really adds value to a song...kinda brings it back from the dead. An example of this would be at the end of "Ask the Lonely". He really does some neat things on this. With that said, I'd prefer Journey take a leap - even if it is unsuccessful - into newer stuff. They have to do it.

Regarding Red13 - I really enjoy this album, but the truth is that it did take a few listens, unlike Arrival which send tingles down my spine from the first notes of Higher Place. I have a younger buddy in his early 20's and he goes as far to say he likes Red13...

I am partial to "Loved By You" since it was the first song my wife and I danced to at our wedding.

My wife has just said "With Your Love", but I think that's more down to the fact we had it played during our wedding ceremony 15 months ago!!!
