Genesis North American Tour

Postby Angiekay » Thu Mar 08, 2007 2:11 am

Only 13 dates :(

NEW YORK - March 7, 2007 - Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford of the band Genesis have unveiled the dates for the N. American leg of their first tour in 15 years, kicking off at the BMO Field in Toronto, on September 7th. The tour will hit 13 different cities across N. America playing a series of arenas and stadiums.

"Genesis is absolutely one of the world's most exciting bands of all time," said Michael Cohl, tour promoter. "They have always been an amazing concert experience and I'm thrilled that fans will be able to see them perform again live for the first time in 15 years."

Anticipation has been running at an all-time high following the band's announcement last November to take the 'Turn It On Again' Tour to some of the biggest venues across Europe in the summer of 2007. Public response has been overwhelming, with many dates selling out quickly. The band will trek through Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Germany, France, Holland, UK, Monte Carlo and Italy before heading to N. America.

Tickets will go on sale in Montreal and Philadelphia beginning Saturday, March 10 and in Boston, Chicago, East Rutherford, Hartford and Toronto on Monday, March 12. For additional on sale dates, official tour and ticket information, fan club membership and early access to tickets, visit www.genesis-music.com.

Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford will be joined on stage by long-time Genesis sidemen, Chester Thompson on drums and Daryl Stuermer on guitar. Two of the world's greatest show technicians, award-winning lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe and acclaimed set designer Mark Fisher are working on plans for what promises to be one of the most impressive stage shows to tour this year.

Genesis has sold over 130 million albums. It is one of a small group of elite British bands who have achieved global success and sustained it with a loyal fan base. Genesis was formed in 1966 by Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips, while still at school, but it's most successful incarnation was the late 70's early 80's line-up of Phil Collins taking on lead vocals and sharing song writing, with Rutherford and Banks. The Duke album topped the UK charts in 1980 with the hit single, Turn It On Again monopolising the airwaves. In 1987, Genesis played sold out stadium shows across the globe, including four consecutive Wembley Stadiums.

This year, Genesis will be honored at the "VH1 Rock Honors" ceremony on May 24.

With the April 24 release of GENESIS: 1976-1981, Rhino Records debuts the first in a series of three box sets spotlighting 13 studio albums by one of the top-selling recording artists of all time. This 6-CD/6-DVD boxed set encompasses five studio albums recorded between 1976 and 1981, plus a bonus disc offered exclusively with this collection that gathers essential rare tracks scattered among the band's EPs and b-sides.

The members of Genesis hosted a press conference in New York City yesterday (Wednesday, March 7th) to announce the North American dates for their reunion tour, as well as some new box sets that are in the works. Just as they're doing in Europe, the band will play about 20 dates in North America, with the mix of arenas and stadiums kicking off September 7th in Toronto. They've only announced 13 of the shows so far, so the current tour-ender in Los Angeles on October 12th could change.

The Genesis North American itinerary (subject to change)
September 7 - Toronto, ONT - BMO Field
September 11 - Boston, MA - TD Banknorth Garden
September 14 - Montreal, QUE - Olympic Stadium
September 16 - Hartford, CT - Hartford Civic Center Coliseum
September 18 - Philadelphia, PA - The Wachovia Center
September 22 - Columbus, OH - Nationwide Arena
September 23 - Washington, DC - Verizon Center
September 27 - East Rutherford, NJ - Giants Stadium
September 29 - Cleveland, OH - Quicken Loans Arena
September 30 - Auburn Hills, MI - Palace Of Auburn Hills
October 2 - Chicago, IL - United Center
October 9 - San Jose, CA - HP Pavilion At San Jose
October 12 - Los Angeles, CA - Hollywood Bowl

Tickets for Montreal on September 14th and Philadelphia on September 18th go on sale Saturday (March 10th).

Also at the press conference, plans were announced for a series of Genesis box sets. The first one is a six-CD/six DVD package called Genesis: 1976-1981 that will feature remixed versions of the studio albums Trick Of The Tail, Wind And Wuthering, And Then There Were Three, Duke, and Abacab, along with 5.1 Surround Sound mixes of the albums, plus rare audio and video tracks from the band's archives, photo galleries, and new interview footage. The sixth CD, which is titled Extra Tracks 1976 To 1982, is just that -- 13 songs that weren't released on any of the band's albums, but were on limited-edition EPs and single B-sides. Genesis: 1976-1981 will be available April 24th.

Comcast On Demand has a 5-part 1-hour Genesis bio up to 1990 right now.

TONS of archival perfermonce footage and interviews. Not a bad watch. Little too heavy on the Garbriel-prog era.

Nope, not yet. I have a friend of mine who is a big Genesis fan. I'll see if he has it and if I can give it a listen before buying it. I can't remember the last time I bought a cd! Might have to give a record rep a call! :P
