That's only 3 days old, how do people find this stuff?
Google Perry's name every day or news alerts or something?

Here's the Cliff's Notes of it: he’s been writing songs for the long-awaited comeback of Journey’s Steve Perry.

That's all it says about Perry. And since everyone is talking BUT Perry, I remain suspicious. First the GQ guy, then Randy, now some writer for a San Fran paper. Normally I'd say where there is smoke there is fire, but I've learned you can have plenty of smoke and not so much as a toasted marshmallow.

Still, an interesting find, wildfire, thanks. It's like a Perry bingo game.
When (if) it finally comes from him we can fill in the middle square.

I got an email from Sue, she alerted me to this news. I'm a proud loon. I'd say 95% of everyone here is a loon but doesn't want to admit it.

I count two.... GQ dude and San Fran paper dude.
Randy only said he was working on 'hot stuff', and never mentioned an album...
(he was probably cooking a Lean Cuisine and Randy spotted him   )

So I must have missed some.... Who else?

At this rate... its press du jour to say one is writing songs for Steve Perry....

I have to agree with everyone here. Unless Steve Perry comes out and sayes "yes, I have a CD coming out" I will only take this as a rumor nothing more. It's great to know that Steve is writing. But if he does anything with it is really anyone's guess. If he does, I'll be there in line to buy mine copy. I'll even get 2 so I have a back up when I wear the first one out.

And I'll get two (shit, I'll get six) because you know what, if the Journey fans can cheat and buy two of Revelation (and who knows how many bought 10, 20...) then I can do it too.   And I WILL.

Nora, I forgot that Mark Goodman said it too... you're right.

This story makes perfect sense as Perry's not much of a solo songwriter. FTLOSM had about 40 other people with writing credits. Minus Schon and Cain ole Stevie seems lost. Man, was that last album poorly written. I don't think he'll make that same mistake again, though. Friga could write an entire album for Perry while half asleep at the spa getting a facial. Have fun with that last line, stevew2!!!

Well i'd be surprised if anything coming any time soon.. The fact a guy has been writing stuff etc doesn't mean its penned for a release yet..

I'd love to hear what Steve Perry has in the music bag these days.. I guess there is alot of pressure on a guy like S.P for him to re-appear and to be singing top of his game and no doubt with the latest Journey scenario there would be lots of comparisons being made between him and Arnel Pineda.

I cant imagine if he would re-appear with anything 'average'..

Personally i'd love to hear him making music within the range / style that he is now rather than coming back to effectively compete with himself.. But i guess alot of people including the music presss will be expecting something stellar..

Well if the likes of David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes etc, not to mention Dio, are still thumping out the songs (in their own fields) then its only fair for Steve Perry to be out there doing what he does best.

But i agree with the others.. Until he (or a record company) make some kinda announcement i won't get too excited yet.

To suddenly emerge when Journey is once again charting is pretty lame (Insert cash register ring here). Trying to capitalize on the hard work your former bandmates have done while you sat at home is not worthy of your legacy. I am sure Perry will come out with a CD that will make the likes of Barbara Striesand and Tony Bennett very happy...zzzzzz. Just what the world needs, another Peter Cetera snoozefest. If that is what you want from Perry I am sure you won't be dissapointed. I fully expect FTLOSM II, only without all those "high-energy" tunes that made that disc such a rocker....HA! Steve, just stay retired and spare us more Elton John Disney movie sound track stuff.

You fricken back off the Peter Cetera! :D

I'm sure we will soon hear some random interview from him noting that he did try to put out an album, but it just got complicated with all the label and legal issues that he will manufacture. Against the Wall II

It's occurred to me that SP and Journey actually have the SAME 900 lb. gorilla on their back - Journey with Steve Perry

Journey has to live down the comparisons to the Perry era.
A new CD from Perry puts him in the same boat.

I can just imagine an interview with Perry for his new CD...

Interviewer:
So Steve, congratulations on your new release, I'm sure your fans have been eagerly awaiting it. So... why did you leave Journey?

SP
That's pretty much all over the internet... and thank you.

Interviewer
We notice you are in fine voice on your new CD.... What do you think of Arnel Pineda, Journey's new singer?

SP
Thank you... singing is who I am.... I really haven't given Arnel much thought... I've been busy with my comeback for the last 10 years.

Interviewer
You have quite a legacy with Journey, the Greatest Hits are still selling well... How do you like the re-recorded greatest hits with Arnel?

SP
Yes those songs are special to me.... um... I haven't listened to the re-records... I thought this interview was about my new CD...

at some point SP will either:

1. strangle the interviewer
2. simply leave....

and THIS is why I think Perry does.... nothing.

Interviewer: Congratulations on your new CD.

Steve Perry: Yeah, thanks. Glad you've had a chance to listen.

Interviewer: I think it's great. I gotta ask; what took you so long to record again.

Steve Perry: Truthfully I didn't think I had another CD in me. I didn't think I ever wanted to sing again. It's always hard to compete against yourself. And I didn't want to take that chance and not hear what I was listening for in my voice and in my music and in my lyrics.

Interviewer: So, Steve; I'm glad you changed your mind. I'm glad you heard whatever it was you were listening for in your voice and music and in the lyrics. i think people are going to be very surprised at what they hear.

Steve Perry: I'm at a different place in my life. Alot of those demons that drove me in the past are quiet. (laughs) I think people will be surprised and pleased. I'm proud of this work. It's something I want people to hear once and then want to listen to over and over again. We're not where we were ten, twenty years ago....I've moved beyond that and where I'm at comes with a lot of history and a lot of stories.

Interviewer: Do you think you're going to quiet alot of those folks who thought you didn't have the voice?

Steve: Ah, (smiles) you know you're not ever going to please everyone all the time; I learned that a long time ago. I've just done my best and I sincerely hope they like it. This is from me for those who still enjoy listening to my voice. Who...can I say this...who didn't stop believin!

And JOURNEY hasn't tried to capitalize on HIM with that fucking pile of crap on Revelation Disc 2? That was a lot more disrespectful to him than the alleged "timing" of a an album release that HE hasn't ever so much as said a word about. Wait until he does something before you tear it apart instead of trashing him over a bunch of rumors floated by other people. Jeez.

I don't know about that statement, SJ. Steve had sole writing credit for quite a few Journey songs (Lovin-Touchin-Squeezin, SweetnSimple, WalksLikeALady, The Party's Over), certainly more than any other Journeyman with possible exception of JC after he left the band. And don't forget If For the Moment, Girl (We Are the World album) -- love that song!
But you're right about one thing. There is an archived interview transcript out there in which he said he preferred the collaboration process of songwriting, as opposed to writing alone.

And, given the choice, I would pick TBF any time of the week over FTLOSM, too. I believe all 3 guys collectively make a song better. Heck, they have each alluded to this (about the magic and creative tension each brings to the table), whether or not they will ever be friends or write together again is another matter  .

Perry said repeatedly that he is only interested in "his time" in Journey, so why would he time any new release with something Journey is doing? Uh...I don't think he needs the publicity, dude. It will come looking for him, when he is ready. If anybody is capitalizing on anybody's hard work, it is Journey ripping off the band legacy that Perry forged. Ka-ching....ka-ching.

It's been about 2 years now since he said he was finally getting into music again and writing. How does that coincide with what Journey is doing? I guess he looked into his crystal ball, knew they would be lipping, then releasing that piece of crap Generations, then firing Augeri, hiring Soto, firing Soto, writing Revelation, then scouring YouTube for their 3rd replacement singer.

Yep, sounds to me like he scheduled any upcoming release according to Journey's well thought out 2-year business plan! LMFAO!
