Proof of how good Joe has gotten live.

Here's a performance of Africa from the last tour where Joseph is singing the part entirely on his own as well as at the end. I remember someone here saying he needed help doing it, they must have been watching a performance from eariler on in the tour when he was still sounding abit rough. I'm honestly glad now Joe is back instead of Bobby.

Not sure what you're watching...
From the 4:00 mark onward, the two back-up singers finish the tail end of the song, which involves the hardest notes to hit.
Joe is spotty at best. TOTO needs someone like Arnel Pineda who can sing anything.

Just an aside, but when did Joe put on all that weight? Wow! Wonder if he'd have an easier time with some of the notes if he went on a Lukather style diet.

yeh but why wud Toto want some unknown dude like AP? everybody knows that Journey only got AP in because he is a total Steve Perry clone! i was at the London show a few weeks back and Joe sounded great! yeh he got some help from the 2 backup singers but thats actually a great idea because then he wont burn his voice out trying to reach notes he originally hit over 20 years ago. AND i believe that alot of Toto songs are sung in a much higher key than Journey songs, dont know what u guys think?

For that alone, he should get the boot. I remember when Joe made a guest appearance in Japan, he looked all svelte and appeared more a frontman than Bobby K. - who had let himself go. Now Joe is Bobby 2.0. In fact, he's worse. At least Bobby would go for the high notes.

In terms of mainstream appeal, everyone in TOTO is unknown. They have even poked fun of themselves for being a faceless band. Lukather, like Neal, gets major props in guitar circles. That's about it.

So? Arnel is slaying those high notes. Detune the TOTO songs a whole step down, it doesn't matter. Joe can't bring it anymore.

If you want to be a rock star, you should try to look the part. Especially when your guitarist and buddies in the media (i.e. Andrew) are talking you up as being a better frontman than the last guy.

With sports and nutrition fitness at an all time sophistication, there's no excuse for letting yourself go either. Unless you are on some medication for an existing condition (like Lou Gramm) and it can't be helped and isn't your fault.

Steve Porcaro look like my old science teacher and bobby kimball looks like a 70s porn star! lol. who cares what they look like? its just great to have them back. as for JW not sounding great on this summers tour, did u have a frying pan over your head when u listened? lol :P

Watch the 2011 dvd get shelved or auto-tuned within an inch of its life. Joe is struggling. Sorry.

it does seem that the TOTO fans here are a bit critical, oh well. i seen the guys in London in june and Joe sang great, he was reaching the notes like a demon! His voice is in much better shape than Bobbys. I really dont forsee any autotune, i would put money on it.

And when was the last time you created a post praising the current lineup? I'm happy they are back together, especially with Porcaro in tow. But the setlist leaves alot to be desired and Joe sounds as bad as Bobby. Just my opinion.

Haha, mate, I'm sure you're the very picture of the perfect human form (much like me, naturally  ) but you do seem to have taken on the recently banned Totofan77's persona in recent days...actually he started this very thread (with a positive comment no less!) so the world's been truly turned upside down.

Have you seen Joe on this year's tour or are you basing everything on youtube clips? (I'm not saying he doesn't look big in person, this comment is geared towards hopefully directing the conversation back to the music...)

noble ur a nasty man, lol. only Joe has put the weight on. Paich was always tubby but the rest of the band look great, especially Luke. besides, it aint that important. only 1 thing that bugged me at the London gig was it was the hottest day of the year and Joe was wearing a scarf, he must have been melting! lol. i suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion but after seeing Toto last year in Berlin and this year in London, i was blown away by Joe's voice! Toto have had so many different line-ups over the years, everyone has their personal fav. mine is LUKATHER, PAICH, WILLIAMS, J. PORCARO, S. PORCARO and M. PORCARO. It does seem that theres always someone unhappy with what toto do, like TOTOFAN, i mean, i does he even like TOTO? lol. i think TOTO are as good now as they have ever been and i firmly believe there will be a new album in the near future...peace. :D

I like the current incarnation. No probs whatsoever, and The Seventh One is my favorite album, so I'm glad Joe is back, even if they're not playing "Only The Children." Only thing about Toto i don't like is the fact that I live in the States (and not in NY or LA) so I have no chance of ever seeing them again.

Neal has had issues with his weight , Deen has gone up and down with his weight as well. TNC has issues with most everyone, if your gay he's gaybashing, if your overweight he's fat bashing, if your right , he's unwilling to admit he was wrong  apparently now he also has issues with hairy people.Image

If you want to front a rock band, you oughta look the part. Neal and Dean never fronted Journey. According to Luke, Joe wanted a second chance to sing lead. Since getting the gig, he has let himself go to hell.

And miss.

Sorry, but I've always found Bobby to be one of the most inconsistent live singers I've ever seen. He's often out of tune and often struggles for the notes too. I can't even listen to him singing Girl Goodbye live over the last decade.

Agree with Joe's decreased range and agree with the struggling for the higher notes, but I at least find him pretty consistent.

His weight does not affect his range....

Are you sure about that? I don't care about his performance, but I have to wonder if the weight does impact his stanima and range.

Yes...I am sure about that....I can hit E over HI C....E6....and that is crazy high...full chest voice....and I am as big of a lead singer of a rockband as you will find....I do not claim to be an expert of much...but this topic, I am pretty well versed....

I was fortunate enough to sing with Toto on their last tour through Chicago a few years back...I did Hold the Line with them...and Bobby was having a rough go that night,he is 60 you know?!?! But...just seeing BK up there is 80 percent of it for the casual fan which is 95 percent of the audience, not the hyper sensitive over analytical bunch on the forums...and, seeing JW back with them is even better as he sang my favorite Toto albums...

As far as what they look like...really? These guys are in their 50's and 60's and you care what they weigh??? Jesus Christ....you are why guys stuffed shit in their pants in the 80's...all the girls cared....I have never heard a guy outside of these boards care what a lead singer weighed or looked like, only the chicks care for obvious reasons....in the real world they want to hear the tunes with the real guys singing it...and by the way, they are the fucking best players on the planet, so wheel them up on stage for all I care, they fucking kill....

And by the way...Bobby does like 500 to 700 situps and crunches a day...you can hit him with a bat and he would just laugh, and then kick your ass!!!! He tried to get me to do his routine and I am 20 years his jr, and I was like are you kidding?!?!

This is just my opinion guys....but really...is there something better to talk about besides JW's waistline?

Just sayin'

Very true. That said, i've never found him to be consistant live. Just a personal thing. :-)

I don't care what they look like. I asked a question about how the weight pertained to the range. My question was answered.
