Is Viv the perfect example of a a hypocrite?

Many times in interviews he's bashed playing metal, like Dio. Now this happens:

"I met up with the original Dio band guys, (drummer) Vinny Appice, (bassist) Jimmy Bain and (keyboardist) Claude Schnell again last night. Now that I've brushed-up on how to play those solos again, we're planning to jam some more and plan to do some gigs, too."

I realize the loss of ROnnie would make one nostalgic. What gives? He says he dislikes playing metal, then complains about not getting enough solos, claims he's bored in DL. Now this. Don't get me wrong I think it would be cool, very cool to see them play live again

I have no issue with it...

My take is that at the time he joined DL he felt that he had been playing in the same basic style for over a decade with Dio then Whitesnake, I won't get into the legal and moral crap that supposedly went down between him and Dio, but I think he felt that he'd had enough of the straight metal riffmister stuff at the time.

Everything he's done for the last decade or so with side projects has been very diverse, but eventually you realize what made you famous as a guitarist and embrace it. That is what I think is going on with Vivian (and probably to some extent the rest of the original DIO lineup). Let's face it... it would have been an utter *hitstorm if they had tried to reformed with a new singer and done gigs playing classic DIO while Ronnie was alive. That would never have happened.

If the original lineup with a good singer goes out and does some gigs playing tunes from the first three albums... I'll be there no doubt about it. IMO...there is nothing wrong with embracing your past. There is some great music there and if anybody could or should play it at this point it would be the original DIO lineup.

If they do it and they come to NorCal area...I'll be there headbanging like the days old!

i agree with most of that too......but with that said i think vivian has been a whiny little ungrateful prick at times in the press over the last decade about his def lep stuff.......they have provided him a pretty damn good career for 20 years now.....if he doesnt like being in def lep then get the hell out.

He's bored because he's been playing the same setlist night after night for the last 20 years.

maybe so but it's not anybody's fault that he wasnt in the band when those songs were created (which might help with the boredom if he helped create them)......regardless, i dont think its wise to complain of being bored in a rock band that is still very capable of providing you a steady living especially in this day and age.

I THINK he may be bored, but the pay is great so he sticks to the band, also, he can jam anytime with other bands when hes not on tour
