When Weezer did Africa on a late night show, SP was there to represent the band. With Paich being ill, SP could have stepped up to held lead the band with Luke. Ultimately, as time went by, he slightly disgraced his own legacy.
Well, if I were to step up and co-lead a band, and spend 150 days on the road doing it, I'd at least demand that I be made a fully incorporated member, as it were. Rightly or wrongly, this happens to be exactly what Steve Porcaro put forward.
As for him not putting up emotional or financial support in the face of Lukather's and Paich's legal battle with the Jeff & Mike Porcaro estates, I have yet to see the following concerns brought into the equation: Firstly, should Steve Porcaro be reasonably expected to take a firm, uncompromising stand against members of his extended family in a legal case he is nominally not party to? Indeed, especially if he considered said members to be in the right, as the court settlement appear to confirm? Secondly, should Steve Porcaro, as a salaried unincorporated member of the band, as it were, be reasonably expected to contribute financially to a legal case he nominally has nothing to do with? Indeed, not being an incorporated member or band manager, I doubt Steve Porcaro has had anything to do with the band's income distribution or accounts, to which the Jeff & Mike Porcaro estates seem to have taken exception.
It is obvious that relations within the touring group were very strained and that Steve Porcaro was not happy at all (and probably made no attempt to hide it, thereby contributing to said state of relations), but there are always two sides or more to every story or allegation.
