Opening Night - 02/04

New additions to the set included Afraid of Love and some revamped Xavier synth on HOTB. Otherwise, same set mostly. Opened with I'll Supply The Love. Luke made self-deprecating jokes about not dying his hair anymore and mentioned the marriage of his son to Cain's daughter. Good show!

I am still a little underwhelmed by the setlist. Obviously, being the opening slot you only have so much time, but I am alll the more baffled by the decision to spend several of those precious minutes on a cover of a Joe Cocker cover of a Beatles tune. Also a bit of a shame that they are not performing any material more recent than 1988. That's 35 years ago!

Toto have always been great at putting setlists together and playing deep cuts alongside their hits. Whilst I understand the limited time offered by an opening slot, and the need to cater for the audience, I think they could have been slightly more creative setlist-wise the last couple of years. Wasn't there talk of performing a couple of Lukather and Williams solo cuts?

"With A Little Help From My Friends" was great. However, given the limited set time, I would have preferred more TOTO - not covers.

During 'Friends' my friend kept saying he heard canned female BG vocals. In my head I thought, you just wait. As soon as it was Xavier's turn and he belted out in that full falsetto, my friend was gob-smacked. No need for fakery with these guys.

Overall, both bands were excellent, but played it very safe.

Agreed.

But I also gotta say that it would be absolutely amazing to have an studio output from this line-up. They are totally on fire and really "click"...

Too bad not like Springsteen . Five songs of the latest album are in set. And I mean Letter to You , not the covers album , which does not count. Toto opened w Orphan last year. I just saw NightRanger are doing three covers in a set , I can't understand it . Lame. Springsteen is doing a couple also , but the set is 2:41 long. It still sucks .

That's great to know ! Thanks....

Any other info....the players etc ? I know from a post a while ago by Trev that Simon was on it....

Still a little disappointed that Luke stopped being active on social media and has gone the paid/NFT way but it is what it is....
