Luke's Vocals

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Sun Jun 18, 2023 12:02 am

In a new interviewer with Rock History Music, Luke says he has a new vocal coach, Dave Stroud. His list of clients include Pineda and many other. He also said Joseph coached and produced his Bridges vocals. I am still awaiting my hard copy from the mailman, but have listened to the digital. I think Luke is singing his ass off. Just a great impassioned performance. Prolly my favorite SL solo record since Ever Changing Times (which was also TOTOish). My only wish is it was slightly longer!

Great interview, thanks for posting. I got to meet him once and he was so down to earth and genuine.

Also really loving the new album.

That's the first thing I noticed when his first single came out. The vocals. I was like whoa....

And now listening to the whole record, his vocals are great and I think its a large part also to Joe's work behind the scenes to get the best out of Luke. Of course the vocals have a fair bit of reverb to them but hey, its still great vocals.

Very interesting tho....to hear he went thru some stuff with anti-depressants etc...during the lockdown. Maybe that's why he also decided to get off social media at the time.

I hear congas on "Not My Kind Of People." I half expected to see Warren or Lenny listed on the liner notes.

Surprised not to see Lenny Castro in the liner notes. This must be Lukather's first album project to which Lenny didn't contribute.

Not really.....Lenny wasn't there in the last one either. And way back in 97, for his Luke record as well. But yeah, other than that, most other Luke's solo record had Lenny on it.

Btw, totally digging this record ! Great tracks....some of the ones Luke/Paich/Joe co write are very Toto-esque post Tambu era....the ballads also are really good, with the last track being an absolute killer....Luke channeling Pink Floyd. The Randy Goodrum track sounds like it could have been straight out of the Ever Changing Times sessions :D

Having Simon and Shannon on the drums definitely bring a different feel to the record. I mean with all due respect to Abe, Eric, Gregg and Tos.....these 2 guys bring that something extra to the groove.
