New TOTO Music?

In a recent (12/23/2024) conversation with DJ Joe Rock of Dayton's The Eagle, Lukather was asked about new TOTO music. Quote is transcribed below:

"With TOTO, I, uh, well, right now we're booked up all next year and i'm also doing Ringo Starr a couple times in there cuz I love working with him.....but umm yea next year's gone - but well prolly cut something for the 50th anniversary. I can't tell you what or how much. I mean, one or two tracks prolly no more than that because it's just not cost or time effective to do it. Y'know, we want maybe to do something as a 'ok we can still write songs here.' "

Wow. That's great news.

Obviously, we've basically had about four or five albums worth of Toto material in the recent 10 years (counting their solo records), so it's not as though they haven't written and recorded brilliant original material since XIV. In fact, I'd say that the 2010s and early 2020s marked something of a creative peak for most members of the band. Some fantastic output.

But the prospect of something special under the Toto moniker for the 50th anniversary come 2027 is enticing indeed. Perhaps the 50th anniversary can also be an opportunity to dig down into the archives of near-perfection, that is releasing demos, rehearsals and some of those 80's gigs. Surely they are sitting on desk tapes from all tours?
