WITH THE LUXURY OF TOTAL HINDSIGHT - DDY'S GREAT MISTAKE

With the luxury of hindsight here is the ONLY thing Dennis DeYoung should of done differently.

When a heavy partying Tommy Shaw decided to leave Styx after the Kilroy Was Here Tour to become a solo artist, Dennis should of been a TEAM guy and gone along with JY, John & Chuck suggestions and found a replacement for Tommy Shaw. At the time, Styx could of brought in a dancing guitar playing bear as Tommy's replacement and got 100% away with it.

In 1985 after the disastrous Kilroy Was Here Album ( over 2 million albums sold) & tour (headlining or solo sold out at HUGE venues) Styx was still HUGE. MTV & the internet were in their infancy. Many fans, other than know names ( from album jackets) or seeing the players in previous concerts didnt even really know what the players looked like.

Hell Styx could of named the bear Tommy Shaw and introduced him as such. Just pull the plug on the guitar mic & let the fuc. Ker dance & play. Have some mic ed up roadie play the real Tommy Shaw guitar parts. The live singing would be a bit trickier BUT they could just have said Tommy is wasted tonight and he insisted on just playing guitar & dancing and dancing around the stage. They could then Milli Vanilli it for the MUST songs ( Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Too Much Time & Fooling Yourself). How damn hard would that have been??

By doing this JY, John & Chuck would of continued to make millions & Dennis would of proved he was a TEAM GUY.

Dennis also didnt help himself any in the eyes of JY, John & Chuck by also launching a solo career and having the 1 only true hit with Desert Moon.


Dennis made some HUGE mistakes back then. The biggest being not bringing in the Guitar Playing Dancing Bear!!
