I guess I was wrong all along about the new Styx album being released this year, I'll be honest I was expecting a little more, but I guess this is what they have been working on all this time.

This isn't the new album, this is a "companion album" for their summer tour that contains live tracks from each band.

The CD will seemingly have 13 tracks and the vinyl only 8

Album on Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/album/1VG1j7pOH2R116Ppqin8rs

I believe that all tracks are newer, unreleased recordings.

Please let it not be about space travel.

I'd rather have "The Mission 2: The Return" than another Perry Christmas album. He should move on to a different holiday...he's pretty much covered that one.

How about Kilroy’s Revenge

Elon Musk’s advance technology, Robots, Humans & Fried Chicken make their way in the Musk made space craft to Mars. CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC & ABC first censor then wont cover the voyage because Elon & Trumps Space Force are at the forefront of this voyage.

Now that’s an album!

I think it follow the same timeline as the last 2. Announcement and single in April with album release in June.

LOVED their last 2 albums. Locomotive & Hold Back The Darkness are two of my Tommy led all time favorite Styx songs.

Someone did a lyric video of Hold Back The Darkness that I just saw this week on Youtube. Not sure if it was a coincidence or whoever created the video thought the song was off The Mission but the video was centered around Mars, the moon and space.

Looking forward to Kilroy's Revenge.

That makes sense....so, if it is a June release, I would expect the band to start talking about it within the next couple months.

Isn't Hold Back The Darkness sung by Larry though? (lol)

But I agree, Radio Silence, Locomotive are my favs off of The Mission. As for Crash Of The Crown, almost every Styx album has a song that I can relate to at one time of my life, or comes into my life when I need help/inspiration the most, especially EOTC and COTC.

On the last CD "Hold Back The Darkness" hits so hard for me and my struggles these past few years. Then, hearing "Our Wonderful Lives" there was no better song to have for my mom's memorial during her Celebration of life.

I look forward to what they release next!

Duet - LG starts it off & Tommy finishes it. Brilliant song. Absolutely love it

You need to check out the Hold Back The Darkness lyric video that's floating around YouTube.. Save Us From Ourselves and Sound The Alarm are excellent too. It's a fantastic album

Does anyone know who will be in Cronin's band?

It's the exact lineup of who's in REO currently:

Dave Amato (Guitar)
Bryan Hitt (Drums)
Marc Bissonette (Bass)
Derek Hilland (Keyboards)

So basically last year's touring REO Speedwagon lineup.

So why on earth wouldn't they keep the REO name?

Kevin, Bruce and Neil have equal ownership of the name. Bruce had the full intention of returning to the band once he healed from back surgery. He says he's ready and can perform but Kevin / "the band consensus" concluded Bruce was in fact not ready to be back on stage.

Because of this, Bruce and Neil have refused to let Kevin continue under the REO Speedwagon moniker.

So let Bruce back ( nice pun, was intended ) in. Kevin & Neil are not also doctors, are they?

I think Neil (who retired from performing) is on Bruce's side which is why Kevin is touring with the same band but as a solo act and not under the REO name.

It seems to be that Kevin is the one who caused all the problems here... Bruce wanted to work something out but Kevin apparently didn't.

I really like REO & Kevin. I've seen them upwards of ten times. Two years ago I saw them headline the show with Styx & Loverboy at The Woodlands in Houston. Loverboy didnt play that night due to a COVID incident. Anyway, after being stunned that REO was the headliner over Styx we saw a GREAT Styx show and when REO came out. Kevin sounded like shi t damn near the entire night. A few of the slower songs sounded ok, but anything harder & up tempo was bad. For me it was the first time I ever heard Kevin sound bad. And it was bad. Off night I'm sure. The saving grace for me that night was Bruce's Back On the Road Again. FAR FAR FAR & away the saving grace of the show.

I saw REO solo in May of 2023. It was great to see Bruce and Kevin again, but you could tell Bruce was struggling vocally on Riding The Storm Out and even Kevin was slightly off for a few of their songs. Still a great show though!

I wonder if Riding The Storm Out is going to be done by Kevin now.

I don't think it's that strange that Kevin's going out solo. He's the voice and main songwriter of the band, so he has the biggest draw of the co-owners of the band, by far.

Bruce has indicated he would like to go out and do one final tour before hanging it up. KC is likely to go on for (much) longer.

Perhaps KC simply is not too keen on sharing tour profits three ways with two guys who are not out on the road, having to pull the heavy load himself?

If that's the case, then that's understandable.

Kevin isn't being allowed to use the REO Speedwagon name anymore because he won't let Bruce back into the band, it's not about him not wanting to share touring profits. Kevin likely also has to seek performance rights (usually by paying money) for any songs he does that he didn't write himself.

And circling back to the new Styx album. The guys are still at Blackbird studios in Nashville finishing up the album as of today. Tommy has mentioned the title to one of the songs as being Blue Eyed Raven. It supposedly has similarities to Boat On The River.

A song titled "Only You Can Decide Your Fate" was recorded for the next Styx album but did not make the final track listing for the new album. There may be others. Could we see this song show up on a 2025 Record Store Day release in April as we did in 2021 with The Same Stardust and Age Of Entropia? We'll see..........

Nothing on the 2025 record store day list for Styx.
