Styx Current Setlist - Most of DDY songs......

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Tue Jul 02, 2024 9:04 am

This is the Styx Setlist on their current Foreigner & John Waite Tour:

THE GRAND ILLUSION - DEYOUNG
TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS - SHAW
LADY - DEYOUNG
LORELEI - DEYOUNG AND YOUNG
CRASH OF THE CROWN
MISS AMERICA - YOUNG
ROCKIN THE PARADISE - DEYOUNG YOUNG AND SHAW
BLUE COLLAR MAN - SHAW
BEST OF TIMES - DEYOUNG
FOOLIN YOURSELF - SHAW
COME SAIL AWAY - DEYOUNG

ENCORE
MR ROBOTO - DEYOUNG
RENEGADE - DEYOUNG

7 of the 13 songs Dennis DeYoung was involved in the writing.

5 by himself and 1 with James Young and 1 with Young & Tommy Shaw

This includes the "dreaded" DeYoung ballad BOT and the so called much despised Mr. Roboto which broke up the band and ruined it, according to them!!

TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE BELIEVED THE LIES SHAW AND YOUNG SPREAD ABOUT DEYOUNG'S MUSIC, A MAJORITY OF THEIR SET 25 YEARS LATER IS BECAUSE OF DEYOUNG!

So what. You posted this same crap over 20 years ago. Those who care don't need to go. Those who want to go buy tickets. It just doesn't matter any more.

Styx performing that Dennis DeYoung song (according to Suite) "Renegade". I saw this concert...almost 10yrs ago. Also fun that they play the studio version of "One With Everything" at the end.

Suite: Just as Dennis needs to move on with his life and stop repeating the same 25 year old whines, so should you. There's a whole world out there-- get out and enjoy it.
Sometimes it makes no sense at all.

It matters to those of us who prefer Styx with Dennis and yes want one last tour.
It matters to those of us who were on the right side of the argument all these years and knew Dennis’s crime in 1999 was to get sick
It matters to us who loved all aspects of Styx not just one subset nor one member.
It matters to us who hated the lies Tommy and JY spread about Styx music by demeaning certain songs we loved.
It matters to those who prefer truth over lies.
It matters to those of us in the Styx community who were friends and enjoyed discussing our favorite group without having to choose sides.
It matters to us that people like you refuse to admit to being fooled by the fooling yourself kings.

Tommy and JY sullied the Styx fan base and Styx reputation by claiming that they hated Mr. Roboto and Dennis’s ballads only to now praise them enthusiastically and make money from playing them in concert. They are hypocrites.
And despite all that would still like to see one last reunion.

No amount of “we want one last tour” “Dennis was right” “Mr. Roboto really is a good and well-liked song” “they lied about why they fired him” etc etc etc is going to change one simple thing: Tommy and JY (and presumably Chuck) don’t want to work with Dennis. Period. That’s it. They don’t want to. If they wanted to, they would be. They don’t want to. Stop sounding like the dude begging the girl who dumped him to take him back when she doesn’t want to.

Disagree some with your point. If Styx without DDY would have tanked and they didn’t make money Tommy, & JY would have begged him to come back. When Tommy & JY saw they could bank without him it was then Dennis was toast. Make no mistake about it, it was all about $$$$$$.

No way...I don't believe the "all about $'s" argument at all. IMO, it was invented bullshit by Dennis for him to not have to admit any responsibility. You had the entire situation with Tommy wanting to cancel the album, then Dennis getting the label to back him and force the band to record. Then the band recording in multiple studios to get it released. Then you had Hunchback being a priority before this...and a Hunchback song ending up on BNW, which sucks, IMO. Tommy said in the Rather interview that working with Dennis became impossible because every decision became painful...it seems to me everything revolving around BNW is what he was talking about. Yeah, if Gowan was a total disaster, then they may have ended the tour and broke up until they all could put up with the situation again to make $. But, after they found they could tour with Gowan and make a profit, that was it. HOWEVER, you will never convince me that a reunion tour with Dennis would not sell out arenas and maybe fill some stadiums...and in 25 years, they have not even considered this. That would have made a LOT more money...so I believe Tommy when he said that at this stage in life he chooses to be with people who love him and have his best interest at heart. He is not somebody who sounds like money is motivating his decisions - at all.

And, all of those people who still think it matters need to seek therapy, including Dennis and you. If a person can't let go of a band firing its lead singer 25yrs ago, and it is still such a part of your life where you have to rant about it online, then you definitely have emotional issues that only a therapist can help you with...because you obviously can't deal with it on your own.

Monker.........

7 of the 13 songs they make money off on this tour were written by Dennis. The majority. They could not have been a success by only playing Tommy and JY’s songs. Never, so don’t fool yourself.

You have never had a moment of reflection about them playing Mr. Roboto The song they said broke up the band and was a disaster to its prog fan base. ‘WE JUST WANT TO ROCK and now The Best of Times. Silence from you because you no answer. Unable as you are to admit being a fool to believe their lies. And lies they were.

You decided that a band firing its lead singer 25 years is nothing. How about their leader, most successful and prolific songwriter and whose voice and songs put Styx on the map. Don't try that ‘’lead singer’’ nonsense around here.

Dennis was fired over money. There were no conflicts at that time. Dennis brought Tommy back in 1995, Dennis no on else could have.
Tommy wanted to dump the Brave New Album album because there wasn’t any money guaranteed without a tour. He needed money. Dennis contacted the record company for one reason and that was to let them know if the album was not completed it was not because of his illness.

They have not considered bringing back Dennis because the minute he began to sing the fans would know what fools the band has been not to have him. And they would never be as excited to see Styx without him. Plus they have no tour without his songs. And most importantly Tommy would no longer be number on that stage and as anyone can see everything now revolves around Tommy.

Tommy Shaw is now the BIG name in Styx but it’s Gowan that steals every show with his showmanship. I’ve never seen a better showman.

I already did answer all of this dated crap. They played "The Best of Times" in concert in the past....I saw it. People like you complained about it. Then they took it out, now they put it back. I really don't care. It's a song, it's not my life focus. As was said by someone else, "Mr. Roboto" back in the 80's was done "live" as the prerecorded album version...So, when they put an arrangement together and performed it live, people liked it so they kept it in. And, it was also in the CycloMedly...which you guys whined and cried about that, too. But, the fact is that BOTH of these songs have been performed since Dennis was fired. You and Dennis are acting like it is the first time they have performed them. Dennis, and you, are just using it as emotional manipulation to try to get people to argue his side. Ahhhhh, poor Dennis has his feelings hurt...don't we all feel soooo bad for him? Those Styx dudes are sooooo mean to him. Give me a break.

In the bigger picture, Styx has moved on from all of that 20yr old stuff. They have a freedom from all of that animosity, anger, jealousy, manipulation, and the toxic environment that went along with it. So, you, and Dennis, should be happy they have found some type of joy in that music...Instead, it is the same old dysfunction, toxicity, arrogance, and emotional manipulation that, IMO, kept Dennis out of the band...and convinced Tommy and the band to wash their hands of Dennis and never speak to him again.

You have still not answered the question because you can't.
If Mr. Roboto was so hated by them why bring it back except for money? The t shirt guy made them do it lol.
If Dennis's ballads ruined the band why play The Best of times and call it brilliant? I thought it was all Barry Manilow or Broadway.
If playing Best of Times once or twice in 25 years constitutes playing the song your are an idiot. They are playing the full songs prominently and according to them "proud to do it" That proof that you heard Best of Times and showing Renegade proves that you are untruthful. They did not play BOT in Iowa or anytime on that tour you are a liar.

Dennis didn't have his feelings hurt he had his musical and personal reputation sullied by hypocrites who make money off his talents. And then gullible pip squeaks like you who repeat their lies.

Why does the current band need to play more than half their set using his songs?
Styx has not moved on not when they keep adding Dennis's hits. They're moving back.
What happened to JY's and Chuck's animosity toward Tommy for quitting Styx?
Dennis brought Tommy back not JY or Chuck. Then Tommy stabbed him in the back.

Animosity, anger, toxicity, and emotional manipulation a are a perfect description of you.

This is a pretty insane level of obsession over a chain of events that had nothing personally to do with you and took place about 25 years ago.

I fully support current Styx. Love the band, and have loved all three of their all original releases from Cyclorama to Crash Of The Crown. They are GREAT live and Gowan is an absolute stud. I also believe that Tommy, JY & Chuck 100% have the right to play with whomever they want and have the right to play any Styx song they want to play. Since the courts gave them the right to use the name Styx, it’s theirs.

But with all that said, there’s no doubt in my mind they 100% fuc ked Dennis over. Say what you want and they’ve got the numbers on their side it started and remains all about the almighty dollar ( says In God We Trust ). Had their original 99 tour been a bust, Dennis would have been back in the fold for the 2010 tour. It’s all about the money. Why they lied or told half truths to make Dennis look like the ultimate villain gave them a solid reason in the eyes of many to move on sans DDY. The truth would have made them look like assholes. Again they had numbers on their sides. No one will ever be able to convince me that it wasn’t about money. Plain & Simple.

If it's all about money, so what? EVERYONE gets into whatever line of work they do for the money. Very few people volunteer their time and make a living doing it. So, Styx plays Dennis' songs. Well, Dennis hired a Tommy clone and played Tommy's songs! All those songs fall under the Styx umbrella so why shouldn't Styx and Dennis play any song from the extensive catalog? I don't know why there is complaining over Styx playing Roboto or BOT for financial reasons when Dennis gets a cut, anyway. Surely y'all have better things to do with your time.

Suite. Please. Your insane arguments are 25 years old and seriously, there just aren't that many people who care anymore. Go to any site on Facebook, such as Styx' official page or any of the fan sites, and you will see lots of people who do not want Dennis back in the band. Go to Ultimate Classic Rock every time they run one of Dennis' whiny interviews and again, commenters want Dennis to stop complaining. Yes, before you get your panties in a twist, there are a few die hards around who love to argue and repeat the same crap over and over, like you, but for the most part-- fans are happy with the status quo. Suite, I'm actually surprised you haven't distracted yourself with yet another interview Dennis just did in which he talked about his autobiography that he's been writing and is close to completing. I'm sure you'll enjoy it when it comes out.

Spoken like a sleazy politician who has done something wrong, stupid or lied and doesn’t want to be called on it they’ll just
say let’s move on or that’s old news. It would not be news at all but for the most recent hypocrisy of Tommy calling BOT a brilliant song and they’re proud to play it . This is current news. People don’t care anymore, really, the excerpted Rather interview has over 587,000 views and nearly 3000 comments. Not their full interview that had nowhere near as much. why? Because the title Styx shares comments on Dennis DeYoung is in the title. Go read those comments I have and the fans are overwhelmingly in favor of a reunion.
Most think Dennis got screwed. He did that’s what all this is about getting those on this forum who believed their idols lies to admit it.
And then we can all just move on.

Why shouldn’t Styx play any song from the catalogue? You know why see above the denigration of his songs. Also Dennis can play anything he wants because he never said bad things about their songs. And you know it.

Well, interesting...

I posted the Renegade clip because Suite claimed it was written by Dennis. Kinda funny. I posted a 2000 full concert in the other thread that contained "The Best of Times".

Styx can perform any song they want to. It doesn't matter what anybody here says. It doesn't matter what Dennis says. If they want to perform "Desert Moon", they can do that and there is nothing anybody can do to stop them...including Dennis They can make fun of "Babe" as Damn Yankees did, and there is nothing anybody can do to stop them. As long as fees are paid, there is nothing stopping ANYBODY from performing ANY song they want. It's all just a bunch of whiney bullshit.

As for it all being about money. Tommy is the one who wanted to can the entire idea of BNW because Dennis would not be able to tour. THAT is what should have happened. Put it all off until Dennis was able and willing to tour. Instead it all became a game by Dennis calling the label, instead of keeping it within the band. So, when the time came, Dennis refused to tour and Styx replaced him. Fine, you can say that is bout touring money. Then Dennis sued them and there was no turning back after that. After every tour - FOR YEARS - people said how badly it was going for Styx, that they were giving tickets away and canceling shows, and that they would have to bring Dennis back to continue. It was NOT about the money...Styx could have easily been touring larger venues with Dennis in the band. They would have made more money with Dennis than without. They would make a ton of money on a "reunion tour'. Those are facts that I doubt anybody would dispute. If you can not see that there are other reasons for Dennis not being in the band other than money, you are in denial that there are irreparable emotional and professional conflicts between Styx and Dennis. Dennis is absolutely in denial of it by his recent comments and his whining for a tour for years now. If it were all about money, Dennis would have been back in the band at least 15yrs ago. Styx just simply do not like working with the guy and they would rather take a pay cut than ever work with him again, or even speak to the guy.

You have no idea how close I have come to posting that in the past. It's not about "conversation". It is about repeating whatever Dennis says over, and over, and over again.

Monker,

Another long winded conversation with yourself.

They can play anything they want and lie continually and denigrate Dennis and his music because there will always be suckers like you. They rely on over half their set on Dennis's talent.
They perform The Best of Times and Mr. Roboto nightly. The song that according to them in hundreds of interviews ruined the band and they add BOT a dreaded ballad because "we just want to rock". They lied about both songs because they did like them. They have both said so. JY admitted on Styxworld that BOT was his self admitted favorite. As Dennis has said 25 years too late. They lie and you makes excuses.

This post was about their calculated hypocrisy and you never address it because you cannot.

It was about the money because it went from being split in thirds to half after Dennis was replaced. Tommy and JY split the profits in half and everyone else gets paid a salary. They toured constantly for years to offset the loss in revenue they experienced and played places that with Dennis they would have never have had to play.

I have said it before but when they replaced Dennis, Tommy and JY formed a corporation named TMB Two Man Band. That is a fact. What about Chuck? Who's Chuck.
The overwhelming Styx fan base want to see Dennis Tommy and JY together one last time. Dennis cares about the fans and we know it. You are not a Styx fan you are a troll whose sad life is spent on aggravating Journey and Styx fans.

When Tommy announced that he wouldn’t finish the album without a tour it was barely half done. That was in March 1999. It was the record company who forced Tommy back into the studio. If Tommy was right as you suggest and they followed him the group would have been in breach of their contract. The record company had expected a new album in 1997 but Tommy's need for money and a tour deprived them of that opportunity.
Tommy got what he wanted eventually with the help of his manager, which was total control of the band. Remember Charlie and Tommy were a package deal. That man was the one who created the new Lynyrd Skynyrd by replacing dead members. Get it?

The entire corporation thing is just a bogus argument. If you knew ANYTHING about the business side of things you would KNOW that Styx had to form a new corporate entity after Dennis' lawsuit in order to move on from having him in the band...in fact, it was probably part of the settlement. Chuck not being a part owner of it is between him and JY and Tommy. I'm sure he is an employee of the corporation, just as the Gowan's are, Todd is, and Will. IMO, it is probably due to his health...he may not want to be involved in the business part of the band...and if he died, they would need to form yet another corporate entity. This is simply how most bands work. To invent some weird conspiracy about it is just pure ignorance on your part.

As for Tommy and BNW, you are just inventing things. I'm not saying there should have never been an album, but to wait until Dennis could commit to a tour. Tommy absolutely was right because the recording of BNW was a mess...obviously Tommy could see the writing on the wall if they continued down the path. Then when the time came to tour, Dennis refused to. Waiting six months after a reunion album is released is not acceptable. So, they replaced him. All Dennis would have had to do was to keep it within the band and the BAND tell the label that they were going to wait on the album because the recording situation was ridiculous and Dennis could not tour anyway. Instead, it was FORCED into being a fiasco...IMO, because Dennis expects to be in control of the band and expects everybody else to bend to his wants and needs. It is a BAND, not a Dennis solo project.

About how the band splits their revenue. You do not know how that happens....they could be splitting the revenue equally between all owners and employees. The only proof that you do know would be if you can show an official business document that proves it. You (and Dennis) are ASSUMING "everybody else receives a salary." You do not know.

You are running in circles when talking about touring. You say it is about money because they tour(ed) contantly playing venues they would not have to IF DENNIS WERE STILL IN THE BAND. You are CORRECT. If Dennis were in the band, they could play bigger venues and make more money! Even if you include your "salary" theory, they are working harder for the same pay. Saying it is "about the money" makes absolutely ZERO sense...and your own words PROVE IT. IMO, the loss in income is worth taking because they no longer have to put up with a toxic situation with Dennis in the band.

Your whole argument is ridiculous. You want me to comment on things that are 25yrs old, and sometimes even longer, that are simply irrelvavent now. People change their attitudes and feelings. They move on from toxic situations. When there is that space, they can allow themselves to look at things differently and change their attitude and feelings. That is just living life. NEVER changing is being stagnant and NOT living life...and THAT is an issue. Tommy, JY, and Styx have moved on - which is the healthy thing to do. Dennis, and people like you, have been holding on to circumstances that are over two decades old.

And, to prove that people can change their views after so much time, here is YOU posting 20yrs ago....Feb 10, 2004

Actually I do care how people feel about Dennis vs. Styx and Steve vs. Journey. It doesn't matter what side you're on, everybody has their own opinion. There are so many feelings within each band that fans will never understand. Us, being the fans, will never know what really went on inside these bands, we will never know what was really said and done. None of us were there while they were writing and recording their albums/cd. None of us were on the road on their bus or plane to see how they really interacted with each other. I'm sure each band member has his own side of the story of what really happened, but again, we will never know.

According to the new Suite, the old Suite is a hypocrit and a liar. You now seem to think that only YOUR opinion matters. You now seem to think you know every aspect of Dennis' interactions with Tommy and JY. You now seem to think you know their feelings and if they are lying about them. You seem to think you know one side is 100% truthful and the other is an invented myth and a lie. You seem to think you know everything that went on within Styx. If the members of Styx disagree with you, they are lying. You now seem to think that the old Suite is a liar.

Styx performing that Dennis DeYoung song (according to Suite) "Renegade". I saw this concert...almost 10yrs ago. Also fun that they play the studio version of "One With Everything" at the end.

And I want to see a Beatles reunion. It is not going to happen. DDY can't hack it. He hates to tour and I'm sure his voice has deteriorated even further now that he hasn't toured in 4 years. He's done. Even his daughter has said he has retied.

And DDY hired some guy to sing Tommy's songs at his concerts. By your standards Journey would need to eliminate almost their entire setlist and Foreigner would stand on stage and smile

Actually, when he first started touring he was doing a true solo show with a lot of his solo songs, including an entire set of Hunchback songs...and no Tommy songs. Then he changed from his solo "orchestra" show to do a traditional Styx set with only a couple solo songs. So, Dennis really replaced the entire band because he stopped doing a true solo set of songs and was trying to give a Styx concert.

,,,and then there is Glen and EotC...
Did Tommy sing any JC songs?

Would love to here JY belt out Serpent Is Rising, Glen could have easily handled A Day. Tommy would be up for Mother Dear. Wish Styx would add Young Man & These Are The Times to their next concert set.

- TMB was formed before Dennis sued. It was formed before they went on tour In 1999.

- They were not obliged to form a new corp. they chose to. Why because they had no intention of allowing Dennis back.

- How do you form a corporation using the Styx name without Dennis’s consent. You just do then dare him to sue. Get it????

- The lawsuit was a result of BTM The lawsuit came AFTER not before BTM!!!!

- They said those malicious things on BTM daring Dennis to sue. Were they acting like there was a chance for his return NO.

- 1999 Tommy never suggested waiting for Dennis to get better to finish the album. This should be obvious by his actions. No tour this year then no album. His way or the highway. If Tommy had suggested they wait till Dennis was better there would have no issues. Dennis would have been thankful.

- BNW became a mess after Tommy threatened to stop. They were all working together before his tantrum. Tommy had been in Chicago several times recording with JY and Dennis.

- All writing on the wall was in Tommy's handwriting. He provoked everything. JY did not threaten to stop the album only Tommy sound familiar like 1980 has his threat to quit over First Time. No one else threatened

- Dennis asked and pleaded for more time to heal he did not refuse to tour.

- Keep it within the band, you’re joking. They were the ones who announced Dennis had passed the baton to Tommy and was retiring. This was on their Paradise Theater site their original internet presence. They were lying and you believed them. Answer that one, you won’t.

About how the band splits their revenue. You do not know how that happens....they could be splitting the revenue equally between all owners and employees. Your whole argument is ridiculous. You want me to comment on things that are 25yrs old, and sometimes even longer, that are simply irrelvavent now.
They are not irrelevant, not to my post, read it again. It's about 53% of their current setlist being Dennis' music. Not 25 years ago today.

People change their attitudes and feelings.
Not you.

They move on from toxic situations.
Tommy created the toxicity by his constant threats.

When there is that space
Tommy created the space

they can allow themselves to look at things differently and change their attitude and feelings. That is just living life.
Not for you. And they changed to line their pockets on the man whose music is more than half their setlist

NEVER changing is being stagnant and NOT living life and THAT is an issue.
Not for you, you are stagnant. Even after you realize their lies and hypocrisy you keep pedaling the same BS. Admitting they lied would mean admitting you were wrong of which you are incapable.

Tommy, JY, and Styx have moved on - which is the healthy thing to do.
They moved on by living in 1999 and ruining Dennis' reputation for money and power.

Dennis, and people like you, have been holding on to circumstances that are over two decades old.
Trolls like you simply repeat lies and live for confrontation.

And, to prove that people can change their views after so much time, here is YOU posting 20yrs ago....Feb 10, 2004
Wrong Troll, my post in 2004 was one of reconciliation to the Styx fans on this forum. The animosity caused by Dennis' replacement destroyed our mutual camaraderie. All the facts and truth's that have come out in these last 20 years have been eye opening to those choose to look.

This is just ridiculous.

You talk about Chuck not being part of the new corporation, then I reply so you switch to talking about the BTM. You say I believe lies in a statement I never read nor commented on and I have always said that Dennis was fired and agree with that decision. Dennis has repeatedly said he was forced into the lawsuit because he was not being paid his share of revenue from the tour, not as a response to the BTM as you say here. You seem to have an innate inability to see any perspective other than Dennis' and believe that everything he says is golden and nothing else matters or is a lie. You call me a troll when the forum was having a nice and fun chat, posting video clips, etc, then you came in and puked these 25yr old Dennis arguments on the forum. You say the old quote from you was you trying to reconcile the forum when it was actually you replying to a thread I started questioning who you were because I thought I knew you.

You have proven to me that you; shift to a new topic when you have no answer for what somebody says, have a general inability to see any other perspective other than Dennis', resort to insults and calling people trolls when they do not give in to yours and/or Dennis' will, resort to lying and inventing things about other posters, and you have an inability to move on from what happened 25yrs ago. You are like a child who had her candy taken away and allowed that incident to affect your psyche so much that you still whine about not having enough candy 25yrs later.

As Cassie was saying, there really is no point in engaging you in any conversation. You do not converse, you dictate, lie, insult, shift topics, and sometimes even make things up. it's just a waste of time. And, just like MAGA, your first instinct is to take what I just wrote and turn it around and say it is actually me doing these things. Whatever.

You know, Dennis DeYoung himself could show up at Suite's door, state that he was wrong, swear that he was a dictator who forced Styx to do his bidding, agree that his firing was justified, and still Suite would deny it because it does not jibe with the narrative that Suite has spent the last 25 years building and believing. It's pointless to argue or debate because Suite will never believe or even concede to anything but what's been said by Suite for 25 years now. Argue and deflect, refuse to see any other side, that's straight out of the playbook.

It's a new day, time to move on.
Sometimes it makes no sense at all.

You all give it a rest.

It’s like trying to have a conversation with the 100% corrupt Far Far Left Libtards. You could introduce them to all the families totally destroyed by their open border ( garner me some votes ) policies, introduce them to all the right leaning Republicans who agree weapons of war should not be sold to the general public but before you stop or limit sales to law abiding citizens you need to get all the guns off the streets and away from the gangs and criminals first. You can even point out the facts of them trying to overthrow both the Republican & their own Democratic parties but they just won’t ever listen. Their minds are already made up and they don’t give 2 shi ts about facts.

But I would never point that out because these assembly lines are supposed to be about the great music of Styx

P.S.S…Would not dare to bring up the riots and how we all got to watch cities burn. Thank god Covid doesn’t affect Dem protestors. Gotta love our solid support for Middle East terrorist groups too. Add to it the great withdrawal from Afghanistan. Little known fact the 21 + major Afghan/US military supporters that we trusted & their families that our Government promised safe passage to the US that we left behind we got 8 of them out according to my good US military stud buddy. The rest and ALL of their families they couldn’t find. It’s assumed they were all slaughtered.
