Fire Makes Steel -vs- Fire Makes Steel

Ok, just got in the new recording of FMS, and I'm rather dismayed. Seems a bit weak, guitar doesn't have the same sound as the original, the bass & drums are way, way back in the mix, and Jamison sounds like a wimp on his vocal delivery, especially on the chorus. Dave's delivery is very gruff and hard rocking, with quiet a bit of passion, JJ delivers the chrous sounding like a neutered kitten. If this is how the entire album is going to sound, Survivor is over, I'll buy the CD and put it on the shelf........

frontiers sampler, yes. I was a little harsh on that review, it's not as bad as I made it out to be, but, it's obvious Peterik/Sullivan wrote the song with Dave's voice in mind, the verses are low, meant for Dave, and the chorus goes a bit higher. The other thing I don't like is the fact that in the original version the harmony vocals really really stand out (Peterik, Sullivan), but on this one they're way in the back. It's not as good as the original, but the equalivant of a decent cover song.

It sounds ok, but just doesn't have the punch I think fans will be expecting.

You mean the Bickler demo, or the new one Andrew? Lota people are saying Dave's version's where it's at.

Please tell me if i post too much....but now that i've found the place...

you know it seems that since I received Reach in the mail, all i can do is compare the two versions. I'll preface this by saying, I lean towards the Dave side, but it has nothing to do with the two guys, both are great singers. I just love the rugged edge of Dave's voice and I think it shows in the songs and especially this song. Sadly, the version on reach, just leaves me wanting a better version on the FMS demos.

And while on that subject, I think that Someone Else's Sleepless Night, off of FMS is a classic, despite it's Demo status. I really wish that album had been released.
