More Albums To Come!!

Postby survivorfan2005 » Wed Mar 29, 2006 9:58 am

Hey all!

I talked to Marc a week ago before he left the airport to go to the next tour site. Anyhow, I was so flabbergasted to find out that he told me that FS had a band meeting just 3 nights before and were talking to the guys about future releases of some old demo songs. Marc told me that after their European tour and everything that the band were going to work on some old demos from Bickler's time and recent ones yet to be publicized fully redone.

When asked "arn't you guys tired from the REACH albm?" he simply stated "Tired yes, Tired of playin? Never!, Due to the REACH album being in such high demand, we thought that this is our chance to regain our glory spots and give to the fans more than they expect!"
I recieved an email from him today listing some prime candidates for future releases for new albums. (there are several more)

Demos heard on the FMS Album written by. Peterik/F. Sullivan, 1993

"Everything Turns On"
"Feel The Memories"
"Innocence Of Love"
"Jessica"
"Love We Never Made" ---my fav!
"No Boundaries"
"Someone Else's Sleepless Night"

Demos unreleased (some have manage to leak)
written by Peterik/ Sulllivan 89-98

"Round and Round"
"Overload"
"The Love You Promised Me"
"You've Got a Power Over Me"
"When The Phones Don't Ring"
"If You Could Be My Miracle"
"Never Surrender (Candidate for Rocky V, never made it)
"Fire"
"Come To Me"
"Anymore"
"Every Beat of My Heart"

I really hope they do release some of these great tracks (there is still a lot i havnt even heard!)

I recently just got my hands on some of these demos....you can get some clips here....

Which ones do you want to hear redone and on a future release?

songs I would like to see

Postby scorpio68 » Wed Mar 29, 2006 10:58 am

Although I am skeptical about these demos being officially redone and released anytime in the new future considering we have been promised this REACH cd for over 10 years I would say Love we never made, someone else's sleepless night, nothing at all would be the songs I would like to see.

Are the clips you posted from Jimi's solo demos or survivor w/Frankie?

The love you promised me is just brilliant. Celine Dion would be shocked. Sounds more like her kind of tune, but JJ sounds mighty impressive. That is SOME tune! Chilling to say the least.

You got the power over me is another dandy.

Geez, Ive been a DB fan for so long, Im just enthralled by JJ more.

I vote to take those demos and finish them all into polished real studio tracks with the current lineup and put them on another album for release. Clear the vaults, but finish the songs with the current players.

Righto then.

SurvivorFan - enough of the BS. I have been talking to Marc and he says this is complete BS and he has not been near an airport in months.

What is the purpose of this mis-information?

Wait a minute....there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding here, i'm not talking about the band member Marc, I'm talking about Marc Johnson, he's a friend of mine living in Memphis who is a good friend of FS from Chicago and is the type of fan who likes to travel to th various concerts and even gets to help with equipment sometimes.
Sorry about that.. If this information isn't accurate then don't blame me, I beleive he has good credibility though. If it's not, I'd still like the demos redone.

Thanks Andrew, I hope they do release some of those demos. I know this is a little off subject, but can someone clear this up for me..
I read an interview with Jim Peterik in which he said, "Ever Since The World Began" was originally written for Rocky III but wasn't used (of course it was later used in Stallone's "Lock Up"). Do you know when it would have been used? It doesn't really seem to fit the movie at all.

And what about "Man Against The World," which was written for "Rocky IV," but never used (later it showed up on the album "When Seconds Count.") I'm guessing it might have been used in place of "No Easy Way Out," since the lyrics kind of work for that part, but the mood is totally different. Does anyone know anything about it?

There are no plans to release more demos.

There was no band meeting.

The band would like to make it clear information posted here is 100% false.

the new album is a major disappointment,if Vital Signs is a 5 on a 5 scale, then Too hot for sleep is worth 3 but the new album will only get 2 from me - just ok....nothing more.
And to me,they should never be just ok.......another album I will only listen once to and then let it collect dust.

Kaj:

The new CD hasn't even been released yet, shouldn't you wait until you hear it before making such statement ? On a scale of 1 to 5 To Hot To Sleep is a 10 in my opinion I absolutely LOVE that CD :D

Some people say that the album is too much like Journey's "trail by fire" album with it having a lot of ballads... Well, if you ask me and hear th samples of all of the songs, non of them are ballads that are too slow such as "the search is over". Too Hot to Sleep was awsome! Come on guys the sound of this CD IS Survivor. I mean, I like good rockers like the next guy, but remember this band isn't trying to please what's in style like most bands are trying to do..

Maybe it's notable that JP didnt write some of the songs but hey, if you want to hear JP's songs you have the oppurtunity. i'm gonna laugh when some of these songs are being played on major radio stations for weeks at a time! :P

I have an advance cd of Reach since I am a journalist for melodic.net but the album is also out on the net for the ones who wants it that way.
The album truly has too many ballads but that´s not the problem,I miss the highlights their old efforts has and if Too hot to sleep is a 10 - then Vital Signs must be a 100.
And for those who think Trial by fire has too many ballads,I´ve got news for you - Journey´s Arrival features 7 ballads......and yet, everybody thinks it´s more rocking, hahahahaha.

Kaj, are you familiar with the S/T and Premonition records? Just wondering. I find Reach has a mixture of those two coupled with the latter efforts. Now if you think "old" is VS then...

That's tough. Listening once and you don't like it. So you are absolutely sure it won't grow on you? Im not saying you haven't tried more than once, but you are very sure of it?

ohyes,i´m quite familiar with the first album and premonition,in fact I think they should include Chevy nights in their setlist coz it´s a great tune.
i was referring to vital signs as one of their best albums and it´s not really that new ,that´s why I take it for an old album.
I also love Caught in the game,Eye of the tiger and When every seconds count not to mention the soundtrack songs Moment of truth and Burning heart - those were the days.
i have listened to Reach twice now and I can´t see how it will grow on me coz it sounds too much like Jimi Jamison´s Empires.......boring.
You might like it more than me but I just miss that old Survivor sound.
The title track though could be featured on a Greatest hits compilation.

Kaj:

Just curious how do you like Jim Peteriks new CD ? Don't you think sometimes we get used to hearing a certain type of sound and when it changes its hard to change with it. If you have heard the CD do you think Jim has the same fire he did with Survivor ?

No,Sheryl I haven´t heard Peterik´s new cd....don´t know why really coz I think his Pride of Lions albums are pretty good.
It´s hard to get that fire back into the music today with most of our old favorite bands/artists,some are actually really good but when you put on a classic like Caught in the game....woah...yeehaaa.....we´re talking another dimension of AOR!
So if people start hyping the new album Reach, they should think twice and listen to the old ones first before posting big words!

Fair enough Kaj. :)

However, for me when I don't compare how things used to be and let the music take me (whether it takes people anywhere that's up each individual), it works quite fine. On a personal note, maybe if some tunes were a bit shorter there would be a better effect. But that's me.

It seems that usually some demos appear when Survivor is in concert...has anyone been a witness to this? if so what was the song?

Kaj,

Would you agree the album is just missing something...it's missing that upbeat, kick tail sound on a couple of songs...i think it's a near miss....the album doesn't need an "eye of the tiger" to be great, just simply a "feels like love' or 'Broken Promises', even songs with the fire of a 'First Night' or even 'Can't Give it Up' or even a 'Santa Ann Winds' type deal,or a 'Hesitation Dance' or two could have saved it for me.

I should say that I think CITG is there best album.

In my opinion the album in now way resembles the ST album or Premonition at all. I find them way beyond Reach in sound and grit. But it really is so close...just a hook or two and a couple of song variations...perhaps Mr. Peterik is what's missing. Ironically I like some of the songs on his solo album better, but I think he misses the 'band' as well...

With that said i think it's a pretty good album and i've been starved for material and worn out the FMS demos, so I'll listen a lot more than once. I've also recently ordered Empires, although I refused in the past...so well see on JJ's deal....

Jimi Jamison interview next week I can't wait  I FINALLY got my Reach CD this week pretty sad when a man in Japan can get it to you before a site in the US ! I honestly didn't know what to expect with some of the opinions I have read but I have to say I am very happy with it ! Yes I wish there were less ballads but Reach, FMS, and Give Me The Word are fantastic and I can't see how anyone could say otherwise  Half of My Heart is also great !
