Hey guys...just listening to the LaGrange concert on the way into work today and man Bickler is smoking the lyrics on those songs....I love to hear him sing on Broken Promises and even Burning Bridges and Desperate Dreams...makes you wonder how the band's sound would have turned out had Dave stayed in the band...who knows...

BTW, this is not a bash JJ post, would be interesting to hear how they woud have sounded on some of the earlier stuff with JJ as the Cobra stuff is much more heavy than the later Survivor...I'm just a huge fan of Bickler's voice...my first rock cassette was EYE and he had me at Feel's Like Love....

That is decent boot but even by then Bickler had lost a few MPH off of his fastball....thought he REALLY struggled on Burning Bridges.

I really enjoy this performance too (i've got the audio only but happy to see EOTT on youtube), and i was very surprised how he sang very well by his way the JJ stuff as "broken promises".

When Survivor released "hungry years" and "you know who you are" (2 great tracks) on the greatest hits cd in 1993, i really expected a following with Dave, and i have deep regrets when i hear the FMS demos and the Lagrange performance.

Honestly Bickler and Jamisons voices are not all that different from each other. You can see Jamison pull off Bicklers songs and voice versa.

yes...they can pull off each other vocals, and i've came to appreciate JJ more after hearing Robin....but i love the grit of bickler's voice...especially on "Broken Promises", it really changes the entire song....of course Broken Promises was written with dave in mind and there is a demo floating around with him on vocals, but no one seems to be able to get their hands on it...

Also, from that show, Bickler on "The Serach Is Over" is just stellar....

I'm sorry to say you couldn't be more wrong there. Both Are fine singers and in there primes (1980's) they both were and to a degree still are really good singers but, even Frankie and JP would tell ya they are nothing allike. There approach, voice, tone, style are so different.

The only things they have in common is that they both gave great performances live and on cd (usually anyways lol) and they both sang in the same band on some of the same songs.

They sound nothing allike when one does the others songs live but, I like some of it as many of you do. I think though much different I like Dave's Burnin' Bridges and She's a Star as well as Broken Promises not better but just as much as Jamo's original.

I never cared for Jimi's voice on most of the Dave stuff. It just doesn't sound right. The way he sings is soo different and his voice isn't as pleasing or as strong down in the lower ranges as dave's is. Jamo also does many times sing in a higher key than Dave. So, it is what it is.

They just DO NOT sound allike. I'm sorry I gotta smack ya on that one.

and even JP has admitted in interviews that that difference might have caused them to start writing in more of a "pop vein"....ie. the When Seconds Count album...I think maybe they tried to escape that, maybe too late, on THTS...but that in my opinion is why Bickler sounded so good on that material....

You seem to be in the know on some stuff, so can you shed any light on what Bickler is up to?

I've also heard that demos of Broken Promises and a couple of more Vital Signs songs exist with Bickler? Do you know if this is true?

I also heard once that "Strip for Me" was written for perhaps inclusion in the Demi Moore movie Striptease...I heard that from a good source actually....

They were fired by James Peterik and Survivor after the 1986/1987 shows was what I had heard from the horses mouth. Peterik and Droubay don't seem to care for each other much. Marc's a classy guy and I know he wouldn't trash Jim publiclly but, I don't think there's any love loss between steph and Marc with Jimmy P.


Kyle Woodring is a very good drummer and a nice guy. He was in survivor for years then when JP left in july 3rd 1996 after Lisle,IL fest shortly there after Marc was back for good on skins. and Billy Ozello came back If I remember correctly after steph quit in mid 1997.


Dave is doing great singing the famous budlight radio/tv jingles. he is i believe retired from the rock music world.

I like the show, ( listened to it yesterday) but was surprised at the lack of Dave era songs in the show, Never really noticed it before.-ERIC
