BEGGING for more hate on FMS. I LOVE IT!!!
It's living up to it's name. Far as I'm concerned there is 1 actual studio version, a demo and live w/ Dave and McCauley.

The McAuley version is a studio deal, with the vocals laid down over the JJ one i believe...

I picked Jamo, of course, because I'm the functional equivalent of a JamoLoon, but truth be told, I like Robin on that track, too. I think it suits his voice.

Even as a "Jamohead" I have to say that Dave´s Version is the best.

Not only superior vox, the Reach version has much more Frankie, plus pounding kick ass Droubay on drums.

Not even CLOSE.

We agree on this one red. This song is NOT suited to Jamo's voice. This is one song Robin actually sounds great on.

No, actually I'm PICKING the REACH, officially released Jamo version over all. And it's not JUST B/C of Jamison.

Hmmm. It's too slick for me. I prefer the edgier version. I think it was written with Dave's voice in mind. By the way to show you I don't hate Jamo. Gimme the Word is a kick ass track and I wish Survivor would incorporate that in their act. Although I think it was actually written by Jamison.

The demo version of FMS sounds too plastic and phoned in for me.

Yes, I think Gimme The World was penned by Frankie, JJ and Jamo's daughter.

I wish we could get a decent recording of the original FMS. Mine has a big gap in it.

Jamo´s Version of FMS is too soft for me, I prefer really the Demo Version (mine also has a gap). But I also have to say that Robin sounds pretty good on it, same as on his Reach Version.

As with Tiger, Fire needs a voice that has an edge too it. Jamo's voice is more suited to stuff like "IS THIS LOVE". Jamo could not have pulled off CITG or TIGR. I like the music on THTS. The problem with the album is Jamo's voice. It's too pop. Have you heard Robin sing Burning Bridges or She's A Star. Now that's the way it's done.

Speaking of Fire Makes Steel, is the version with Bickler on it just a demo or is it actually on an album? If it isn't on an album, how do I get a copy of it?

It's just on a demo. I also haven't heard a version with Bickler that doesn't have a skip in it. It's a damn shame too because it is one of his best.

Sorry for my inexact explaination. I don´t think Jimi´s voice is too pop, the complete version is too soft for me. Even the Robin Version was stronger/ had more edges like the Demo of Dave.

Yes I heard/saw Robin singings songs from THTS, have a Bootleg of the Waukesha fair last year. His interpretation was okay for me, but saying Jamo´s voice was the problem on THTS is a point I would never agree to. THTS is probably the best Survivor album ever!

Right, that's bullshit, especially when half of Vital Signs w/ "poppy" Jamo was written with Dave in mind.

Red, Peterik is even quoted saying that the FS and himself started to right songs more "poppy" if you will for Jamo. It's complete horse-shite and naive to think otherwise. Can you imagine Dave singing on WSC? I can't. Nor can I imagine Jimi recording CITG. Let's get back to some objectivity on this board. People are getting blinded by their preferences. I have to laugh when Jamo calls TALKING BOUT LOVE too pop. This is the same guy that sang I'M ALWAYS HERE.

I'll have to agree on some of that....

I tell you what though...What I would not give to have a studio copy of Dave doing the Vital Signs album...hell, I can even listen to High on You when Dave's singing it...early on in '93, when his voice was still solid, like in the LaGrange boot, you can't tell me that Dave does not just nail the Search is Over...and I Can't Hold Back...let alone Burning Bridges...man...it's awesome...

By the same token, I don't much fault with JJ's CITG or Eye of the Tiger...it's not better, but it'll do....

And yes, Vital Signs was written for DB, but you can change things. I do know that one of the early demos for that album was Broken Promises and I think you can just tell that that was written for Dave....

I do like JJ on Feels Like Love....

Great. The fact is that Peterik and Sullivan started writing in a more pop style for Jamo. What's the issue here? They've said so. It's not up for discussion.

Folks the bottom line here is that Survivor wrote pop music for Jamo. They've said so. I don't know what more needs to be discussed on the topic.

I finally got around to listening to the Cobra Cd and was actually surprised by the "edge" in JJ's voice. So I could see him singing Dave's stuff. But I think it always stands to reason that the original is the better version.
