Hesitation Dance vs. Everlasting...

Hard to compare these two songs...Hesitation is a rocker...Everlasting much slower, but probably a better song...except for Red the ballad hater...this one is hard to me...i'll have to think on it....

Ballads are just awful.
The worst.

Hesitation Dance over Everlasting for me. BUT I still love them just about equally. FS guitar magnificent in both so that's where I feel bad about choosing one over the other.

That said, for 8 seed, Singer perhaps is having a slight edge over Children. But AGAIN I feel rotten to choose. Love BOTH!

All in all, I think VS and EOTT are just brilliant. EOTT winning though because I feel Popular Girl is too formulaic for me. FLL over PG because FS smokes on FLL! Im a sucker for solos.

To me they are both popish type songs...in fact this might be a pop as they went with Bickler on vox...I read an interview where Jimi Jamison said he was concerned about joining a pop band in '84, as he was a rocker, but I don't think they were that pop at the time....

As anyrate, both of these songs are injoyable and simple...Neither are great or bad and I'd have to call that matchup a complete draw, as neither pulls away to me...

Slander? anyone else....

Hey Eye I've been swamped. Sorry for not getting back on this. I like american heartbeat a lot. I like it much more than popular girl. I feel that AH has a darker, moodier, feel to it. Almost ominous. A little like stuff off Caugt in the game.

The Singer Not the Song vs. Childern of the Night...

I'd have to go clearly here with Children....as someone said..great into...then it slams into Survivor rocking at its best....

"The Singer" is a good tune, but I find no special quality in it for me...i know jamo heads will disagree to a point, but I don't think that "Singer" is a bad song...it's just not as good a Survivor track as Childern of the Night...

I'm with you on this. Children is just a classic. Singer is okay nothing special.

I guess the diversity of our tasts on particular songs are a good thing. Although, I just can't put Singer on a so so tune level. Its my favorite of VS.

6. Feels Like Love vs. First Night - They both have their moments...they are different and it helps a lot that I associate FLLove with a lot of the concerts they opened with it...That gives it the edge to me...but I like First Night a lot...

5. The One that Really Matters vs. The Search is Over - This is a good matchup in the sense that it really personifies the difference in these two albums...I love thatt opening guitar riff on TOTRM...it's frankie at his best and it rocks, really heavy, and when bickler dives in with that voice..."I know your mind..."

Great tune...I give my edge to The One that Really Matters, but let's face it, people got married to The Search is Over. It came close to number one and was a huge it....but more me....

4. Ever Since the World Began vs. Broken Promises - I don't know if Survivor ever did a tune better than Ever Since...it's classic...and should have been a it....Broken Promises is probably the most rocking song on Vital Signs and in my opinion it could have had a home on any Survivor album (except Reach it's way beyond that). Draw for me...

3. I'm Not that Man Anymore vs. High On You - It can give you chills does Bickler's vocals on this song...when he screams "NOOOOO...I'm not gonna throw my heart away..."...pure awesome....High on you is a pop classic, but i'm not that big a fan....Score one for Tiger

2. Silver Girl vs. I See You in Everyone - Simply put...I love Silver Girl...the opening Guitar...Bickler's soothing vocals...it's simply a classic....how did this album not to better as a whole? Come on, these songs are excellent....I See You in Everyone is also a Survivor classic...I love JJ's vox on this..."Out in the street...it's making me crazy....and the live version on Extened Version really, really rocks...that's Survivor as good as ever....

For me slight and very slight edge to Silver....

1. Eye of the Tiger vs. I Can't Hold Back - Contrary to the tournament on here, how in the world can you go against Tiger...It's an icon...I Can't Hold Back is also one of the best Survivor tunes written...Eye gets the edge for me, but ICHB is truely great...

what does everyone else think?

6. I will take first night. Feels like love is one of my least favorite songs in the Survivor catalog although I didn't mind it live back in 1984. First night is vintage Survivor. A ballad that turns on a time.

5. I will take the one that really matters over the search is over. Like I said previously I've seen search on one too many god awful love song compilations. Meanwhile The One That Really Matters continues to be one of the most overlooked songs in the Survivor catalog. This one rocks start to finish. PLAY IT LIVE BOYS! RE-RECORD IT WITH ROBIN.

4. Ever Since The World V. Broken Promises. Two Great songs. Ever Since The World Began wins. It's a ballad for men. Great Writing! Get chills when I hear it. It's Dave at his best! Sorry Jamo.

3. I'm not that Man anymore v. High On You. I'll take High. Man is a great song that has always sounded unfinished to me. It sounds like they didn't know what to do with it. Love the guitar but the lyrics just kind of end abruptly as far as I'm concerned.

2. Silver Girl V. See You In Everyone..I'll take I'll See You in Everyone. Both are great songs. I just think I See You has so many hooks. Survivor truly at their best. Having said that Silver is a great song.

1. Eye V. I Can't Hold Back. Survivor's two best songs with question. Eye gets the edge here although it's been overplayed. I Can't Hold Back still has freshness to it that doesn't sound too dated. I really think this is Survivor's best song. If I were to pick out a song that best crystalized the writing of peterik and sullivan it would be I Can't Hold Back. Eye gets the edge though. It's just too huge.

Slander, regards to your below comment:

I think that would be really swell, BUT don't think JP would allow it. Especially when he doesn't want to even see Survivor perform with Robin.
