It's funny, but I don't have the disdain for 'Home' that everyone else does...it's by far not a great song, but perhaps at the end such a lackluster effort, where 80 percent of it sounded just alike, it was a 'fresh' break, even if a filler song.

I don't like the version of "I don't" on Reach very much, but I liked the Dave version back in the '90s...Dave co-wrote that song and it suited his vox...should not have been on Reach and does anyone else think the FMS version of "Seconds Away" is far superior...not just the Dave part, but the guitar, production etc? Of course, I think JP was involved in that...I think the remakes of FMS demos on Reach, without JP involved really shows how much that band misses Peterik, the father of the Survivior sound.

Other fillers - Home

A couple of things. 1) I will give Survivor and FS credit for trying something different with HOME. I don't like the song but it is almost country. Nothing wrong with taking chances from time to time. It just doesn't work for me. 2) I did Talkin Bout Love. I think it is signautre Survivor. Yes Frankies vocals are different but that wonderful guitar solo is unmistakable. REACH is not my favorite but a good effort.

I don't is not filler. It is classic Survivor. Reminds me of their darker side from Caught In The Game.

Well Slander...as Andrew said, there is your answer...

And get over it dude, there are fillers on more than one Survivor album (You ever heard the song FreeLance?). I can't name a lot of bands where there isn't at times...And stop all this BS with "with all the material Sullivan has..."bla, bla...

Do you ever actually stop to listen to yourself? If they have so much material, then why one album every 20 years? And that album was full of a bunch of remakes from the FMS demos and a bunch of - well - as ANDREW said, fillers.

First while I respect Andrew, I think for myself. I think Andrew respects that much more than someone who just agrees with him to be in his good graces. I see what I see. He gave the record a solid 85 percent! I will take him at that. Hell I rate it lower than than that. Yes I know exactly what I write. It is well thought out. I think Frankie put so many FMS demo songs on REACH because they should have been released in the early 1990's. I think in some way he felt they deserved the light of day. And I'm going to say something here that isn't politically correct on this board. I think Peterik misses Sullivan too. I own every PRIDE OF LIONS album and they could use an edge that Sullivan could give them. Peterik is not the same without Sullivan. THE POL efforts are inconsistent. FREELANCE? didn't Peterik sing on that one? Yeah I think so.

REACH is NOT an album full of fillers. Like I said I feel some revisionist history here and quite frankly I don't understand it.

As was already mentioned, the drums don't sound as good as normal for a Survivor album. Marc's drumming is still great, but the production isn't as good for the drums on Reach.

Robin McAuley's solo album and the last great Edddie Money album (both produced by Frankie) had a much fatter and hard hitting crunch. GREAT sounding records...both of them.

Once again, I hear the greatness of RM's record. Jealous as ever

8)

Frankie, Robin and the guys have the potential to make a GREAT rock' record with a lot of variety.
Robin can do it all. I'm actually hoping Frankie will do something a little bluesy like Great White did with Rock Me oh those years ago.

Well said.

I will say and agree with this.....Peterik without Sullivan...or...Sullivan without Peterik is half of what they are together....as a SONGWRITING team....the stuff they wrote together was magic, and seperated they will never be able to match what they did together....neither has in 12 years apart....not even close....production, other band members...all are variables, but as far as songs go together is the only way we get the Survivor song quality of the 80's and early 90's....

We can respect them both seperately for their achievements....but together is where it is at for me....

Will it ever happen??? probably not...but we need to move on, it's a new world order as far as Survivor is concerned....and we should all give it time to unfold....

Give Robin a chance to put his stamp on it, and give Frankie a chance to work with a singer he gets along with....JJ was great, but he has his own path now....

I do like "Talkin Bout Love" a lot, and I think Frankie's vocals are really good on it, not as good as Jamison or Bickler are in general, but still good.

I like the demo of "Nevertheless" better than the one on the Reach album, I like Frankie's singing on it better.

I like "I Don't" But I don't doubt that the song is more suited to Bickler's voice. Jimi did a great job IMO, but it sounds to me like a song that Dave would be great on. Sadly, I have never gotten to hear the Bickler version of it.

As far as "Seconds Away" is concerned, there are things that I like better about the demo, but there are also things that I like better about the version on Reach.

 I figured with Reach Frankie would have been sick of all the great press Pride Of Lions got and came up with a explosive cd that fans would have said wow. It didn't happen .. I Thought he did a great job with Eddie Money.

I loved Empires .. Jimi sounds incredible on Cry Tough , Dream Too Far , First Day Of Love and Run From The Thunder . People say he was a better singer back then and his voice isn't good now , well they should go on rpmconcerts.com and check out the cd they have for sale. Jimi kicks it hard with High On You and The Search Is Over from 2006.

Survivor can't really be Survivor without all the guys that made it happen . One guy can own the name but it doesn't mean he was the best or the leader.

Reach for me has too many guitar over-dubs and there is no way to sound like that live.
Empires is more raw and I have seen Jimi perform this live and it sounded the same.

I saw Survivor live at the Ny State Fair in 2001 and it was by far one of the best concerts I have ever repeat ever seen. Maybe they should have recorded a live cd when they first got back together . The set list was :
1. Can't Give it Up
2. Broken Promises
3. High On You
4. Didn't Know It Was Love
5. I See You In Everyone
6. The Search is Over
7. I Can't Hold Back
8. Eye Of The Tiger
They never sounded so good :

I also saw them at Turning Stone Casino Verona Ny:
1. Velocitized
2. Rythm Of The City
3. High On You
4. See You In Everyone
5. The Search Is Over
6. I Can't Hold Back
7. Burning Bridges
8. Eye Of The Tiger
Also a awesome show.
